Anyone else thinks Varus should get at least some usability buffs?

I know no mains like when their champion is simplified, but if you look how many things Varus needs to do to maximize his damage output, it becomes silly, he needs to charge his arrow fully, hit it directly at enemy he wants to damage, do not die while slowed, fire it in 2 seconds window, or it will get cancelled, weave his abilities every 3 autos, ult enemies that are not only grouped, but crowd controlled, after ult use hail of arrows to detonate all blight stacks, get a takedown for his passive to proc... Compare it to say Lux who, while also has 3 damaging skillshots, only needs to land 2 basic attacks, and boom perfect combo.

And Varus needs to do this all while being escape-less marksman. Now, some champions have kits that are overloaded with effects, but Varus' kit seems overloaded with conditions.

Now, I'm not a Varus player, but he is a cool champion and I believe he could use some love.

Unpopular opinion but when played super well he is borderline overpowered (mid). He has top tier waveclear with range and a pretty good really good laning phase. Ultimate is really not that hard to land since they buffed its thickness and it's relatively fast (good test of reaction; will force dashes/flashes or claim kill). Due to its layered CC it can always be used to start a fight and it causes a bit of chaos in enemy ranks.

When I played AGAINST this one Varus I learned he can channel and fire his Q arrow BEYOND vision range. He is one of the few champions that can do that (next to Xerath). So when I started using minions or allied champions to "spot" vision for me while I abuse the max range of Q to fire it from out of sight without warning it really improved my Varus game sieging.

In the laning phase his waveclear and range makes him very uninteractive. Unless countered he is pretty safe.

Lately I learned the power of movement speed and roaming mid lane. With champs like Morgana I started roaming a lot mid with boots of mobility phasing away teleport mid and going back to a combat summoner. Varus actually believe it or not makes a pretty good candidate for roaming because 1, powerful reliable waveclear and lane presence, and 2 a good pick ult + mid game burst. So it looks pretty troll but I be running around the map (bot lane 90% of the time lol) with mobility boots and a tear insta clearing mid with his Q E.

So I kinda tested this on a custom and his power level is crazy high with item 3124 + item 3085 and some other on hit + hybrid items. Still it was just a custom against 5 bots on intermediate and it felt a little bit TOO powerful even against bots ._.

You seem to be a seasoned Varus player, what do you think of these items on him?

The only thing he needs is a real passive. It doesn't fit his intended play style one bit nor is it useful unless ahead. No other passive is like that.

Varus is fine. the blight stacks are more for AP varus alternative build and for lane phase when someone is trading in your face early on. later on you pick varus for his unmatched poke. in mid game varus shines for poke unlike any other marksman. the Q is balanced to slow you down because it has massive range, goes through minions and can hit multipe people. even with reduced damage after the first target it still does huge damage for an ability that has a relatively short cooldown with CDR built.

Varus is honestly fine. you are suggesting he be simplified to play more like a standard adc and I don't think he needs that. I like varus because he's unique. he is marksman who you play like a poke caster who also has the ability to deal some damage with his autos but less sustained damage than a true adc. he's fine.

well to be honest comparing him to lux is kind of a stretch, they aren't on the same role group, but yeah I agree, he needs some mechanic changes, namely, blight should become his passive and they should add something else in there.

It's kind of weird because his secondary role is mage but a champion like Corki have quite a lot more magic damage than varus and he doesn't have the tag of mage ._.

Also Varus' ratios aren't that big of a deal:

  • 1.6 total AD on his Q isn't much nowadays and this is a narrow skillshot with 15% falloff damage per target hit including minions and banshee's eats it whole, unlike say Sivir who can pop the banshee with Q and deal damage on the return, also, for the record, Sivir has a 2.0 total ratio on her Q, albeit less base damage.
  • 0.6 total AD on his E which has a long cast time and a measly slow, compared to Miss fortune's E which is also a slowing area, hers does more base damage if they stay in there for the duration and is a greater slow AND is instant cast but scales off AP only so she doesn't really increases the damage of it.
  • the rest of his kit scales with AP and does magic damage which is pretty confusing to be honest and the ratios aren't that great either, you can't maximize the damage from blight without hindering your other abilities AND your autoattacks, even though, your other skills will benefit from blight marks no matter what.

I'd argue then that hybrid Varus would be a great build on him, namely item 3124 + item 3085 + item 3146 would make blight increase its hp% while increasing the marking rate on enemies making his quite powerful...

Varus is fine and probably one of the more balanced champs in the game but he could still use a little buff.

I wish they would make his E more interactive. It's feels kind of useless besides for popping blight, though the slow has saved me quite a few times.

If they would either increase the slow, or give varus a speed boost when walking through it, that would be great.
