Mobility is the issue behind all of riots balancing
So we have a champion(s) like
, who are supposedly the benchmark of "balance" (more or less). Riot reckons that high skill cap+mobility is fine, which to some extent it is, and easier/less risky to use abilities (point and clicks etc), are usually on immobile champions (eg old/live
). Unfortunately, Riot seems to think that if a champion with less risky abilities is strong, they require a nerf, whereas the ones who dont do not (eg nerfs on
, but not on
[yeah she was nerfed but hers don't compare with the other 3] ). Im going to talk specifically about syndra and veigar first, since they are more or less the same for the sake of argument. Veigar and Syndra both have no mobility, not even a MS buff of any kind, they were supposedly compensated for by this with hard cc (and a slow for syndra), and strong burst. Now champions such as these are ones that would be dangerous to approach carelessly, so proper thought was required BY THE OTHER PLAYER before considering trades/all ins etc. This point is where the problem is. Riot immediately assumes the best of the situation goes to whatever champion is getting eyed up by the nerf bat, which is fine, but saying Syndra has no counterplay because she stuns ults ignites is somewhat naiive. OF COURSE THERE IS NO COUNTERPLAY FOR THAT, YOU JUST WALKED INTO STUN RANGE AND EXPECTED TO NOT GET SMACKED IN THE FACE. To be honest 8 times out of 10 if syndra hit her stun you probably deserved what was coming, the other 2 times are probably very nicely honed mechanics on her part (in spite of this i do agree the stun hitbox was a bit big, but of course riot took that 5 miles too far). Veigar is similar in that if you get that close without taking proper care you are going to get killed. Heck veigar was easier to deal with than syndra because of a really mediocre early game especially levels 1-5, you had all that time to try and kill veigar, but now that its 40 minutes in and he 1 shots you hes OP? Pssst, hes kinda supposed to do that.
Next up is Azir. He got syndra stun treatment on his soldier range, yeah it probably needed attention of some kind, but heck he now is pretty much forced to be in annie q range to use them even remotely effectively (considering the meta it IS a problem). It's almost like Riot has mixed feelings about low mobility/immobile champs, they want them to be punishing to careless players, but want to spoonfeed how to counter the champions to the playerbase, "adjusting" if needed.
Heck even as far back as when
was nerfed: "Her early game clear is too fast, q monster damage nerfed" (ok....
)
"Her early game ganks are too strong, E range/hitbox/duration nerfed" (ok........
)
Honest truth here, I am silver, and I hated playing against Veigar (stupid bs 2.5 second stun), azir and syndra harass was annoying, but if i could beat competent players playing those champions 50% of the time playing post nerf
I dont see an issue with them at all, because every time i died playing against any of those 3 champion, I deserved it. For example, I used E when
had W 1st part active (proceeded to get w-e-q-r-ignited), and when i jumped in on late game
without bothering to look at his items because i was fed, he was dying in 2 seconds anyway right? (zhonyas flash- stun-q-ult-ignite), or maybe when i jumped on
, and got ulted immediately right into his whole team (gg baited, rekt).
^I had all of this coming, I was foolish, careless, and stupid in every scenario, too sure of myself and disregarding the strengths of each of these champions because I had a blink and they didnt. Even now I find myself getting outplayed by the occasional Veigar (no one plays Syndra anymore, and Azir on the down slope too)
What frightens me most is the amount of people you see crying over
SHE HAS BARELY CHANGED SINCE SEASON 4. I played her in season 4 to somewhat good success (which I attribute to lack of knowledge on my opponents part mostly), and was surprised and excited to see her picked up in professional play, but apparently her cc is too strong....
Ummmm, short range and little mobility (a long cooldown delayed blink that does get completely ruined by and hard cc). Watch basically any game of OGN/LCK with Lissandra in it and at some point Monte will probably say something along the lines of "Lissandra will be nowhere near as effective when (insert any adc champ) has QSS", and before i get the classic "SHOULDNT HAVE TO BUILD AN ITEM TO COUNTER A CHAMPION" Lissandra cannot afford to ult whichever adc has QSS in those games because it gets removed, the adc escapes out of Lissandras range (90% chance E was used to engage) and Lissandra gets dumpstered by 4 other people or even 1v1d by the adc. Sure zhonyas and qss counter
, but press R to safety. Not quite sure why I typed this last segment though, I bet Lissandra will be nerfed, shes another champion that punishes careless mobility, seems if someone gets instakilled without counterplay because they got stupidly close or abused their limited/only escapes its a nerf warrant
TL;DR Immobile champions have huge power as a trade off to little/no mobility, nerfing them based on those strengths is unfair to that champion, because if whoever they were playing against ended up in a situation whereby they find themselves overwhelmed by said strengths, chances are they deserved it. It seems no champion is allowed to be a Master-of-one (or two)
, and balance is considered to be anything that is Jack-of-all-trades
.
Yasuo is overnerfed. I can pick like 99 different champions and dumpster him completely and end the game before he even gets his IE/Shiv.
Opinions like "BUT WOMBO COMBO, BETTER BAN YASUO" are just laughable. Having
Wukong or
Malphite isn't any different from having two of
Amumu,
Orianna,
Leona or
Ziggs in the same team. And the second case is much more dangerous, because, say, Ori will also halve your team's HP bars, if not outright killing mid and adc.
