Shen changes?

I can't be the only one that thinks Shen needs something done to him. I'm not saying he needs anything major done, but he feels like he is weak. Unless your team is ahead then his impact is incredibly small, and that his kit is fine, but his w feels so weak (impact isn't that visible with high cd and short duration), and if you miss your taunt he doesn't bring much else that's anything special, other than his ulti (q, his only real damage spell is just abysmal.) His damage is the worst out of all top laners right now while not having a lot of cc. (he is literally last, at 48/48) He doesn't even tank that much damage out of the top lane pool (he is 30/48), which is pretty bad considering he is meant to be a brick wall. Win rate is sitting at 47% and he is 2/48 for most deaths on average. The only overtly positive thing you can note from his stats is that he contributes to a lot of assists and has an above average play rate, especially when you factor the above in. I dont know exactly what NEEDS to be done to give him a nudge in the right direction, but he is just a hot mess of a champion that feels great to play and is really fun, but overall he is just a little lacklustre. His damage says hes a tank, but he only has one hard cc. His abilities scream dueller, but his damage isn't there. He has such a good play rate (10/48), and he wins in the assist department, but his win rate doesn't reflect this and his other stats suggest he is lacking. He is just one hot mess of a champion.

TL;DR - I feel shen is weak(ish), do people agree? And what could be done to improve his play?

The one change I think would be cool is make W more interesting, I was thinking like for 'every basic attack blocked with W it reduces the cool down of Shens passive by x seconds' or 'for every basic attack blocked x energy is refunded'. I think something like this would shift more power Into his solo performance leaving his pro play performance untouched.

As you can tell from my name I play Shen quite often I've been maining Shen since season 3 after the TPA win and he is one of my absolute favourite champs.

I have to say that the rework took away allot of things that I loved as a Shen player: Ranged attack Sustain On demand shield

The current state that shen is in right now is upsetting to me as he is a champ I really love but I feel as tho the rework left him in such a dire situation that it is almost unfun to play him anymore

The biggest problem I find is his Q and the spirit sword mechanic. It just doesn't work well thematically or practically having a champion that requires so much situational concentration when the main role you play is one of a reactive tank becomes a nightmare. I feel like this could be helped if the spirit sword didn't exist in its current state!

there are just so many things with Shen that frustrate me as a player that I wish I could change but I think the whole spirit sword mechanic is probably the biggest thing.

If i could change him I would do so like this: Remove spirit sword Have W always self summon (maybe create drawback by having it root Shen during animation) ^I would actually love to play around with this ability and have it do some unique damage mitigation or negation^ Possibly replace Q with some kind of ranged attack like a ranged spirit slash (to keep with lore) that marks a target and allows Shen's next 3 attacks to deal % damage based on his or their hp

Any change would be to make Shen's skills reactive I don't think it works well for him to have defensive and aggressive skills that take too much thought to set up

Shielding an ally (with spirits refuge) at a clutch moment should be reactive, it shouldn't depend on where you are and then where your spirit sword is and then also where the ally is; that's too complex. onto of that you also need to factor in the travel time of pressing Q and then W.

anyway I feel like after the effort put into the rework there is probably not going to be any big further changes anytime soon (also Shen is a ninja so he goes unnoticed easily :P)

Hopefully we will see some change in the future tho, I think its much needed to keep a champ like this relevant and enjoyable in the current meta.

Shen is very powerful and a regular pick in pro play. 47% winrate is very high for Shen in solo queue and if he were much stronger then he would go from being a regular pick to perma-ban in pro games.

But what about in non-pro play where 99% of the playerbase resides? And so you don't think any changes could be made, not even if they were minimal?

In non-pro-play he has a 47% winrate which is completely fine. Stop whining.

Simply trying to have a discussion. If you feel the need to be aggressive go play a norms match, don't bring it here thank you
