Tryndamere rework concept

Before read information Know that I'm a OTP Tryndamere player, my standing is in favor of Tryndamere, but my experience with this champion leads me to want to point out what should be done and what shouldn't change about Tryndamere in my point of view to for a futur-ish Tryndamere rework.

Objective of the below rework concept :

  • Remove randomness of early game critical strike win/lose lane match-up.
  • Remove of blind push Tryndamere ultimate, currently you can use your ultimate to finish a turret or to escape like a rat, with the new system you'll have to auto-attack champion to stay longer in your ultimate, attacking turret while tanking it and an enemy champion will result in a quick death and fleeing the battle will also lead you to less than a 5 seconds immunity.
  • Less of a stat check champion, opening to more skill expression for Tryndamere player and his opponents.
  • Smoothing out current Tryndamere force and weakness, no more one button push => you win or lose if bursted, burst will now be a proper Tryndamere counter with number behind it, not just Tryndamere pushing is button just too late.
  • Making Tryndamere less dependent of his Ultimate ability and less binary

**Passive : ** Undying Rage when Tryndamere basic attack a monster or a minion he gains 5% of his maximum rage bar Basic attack against a champion will grant him 10% instead When Tryndamere kill a unit he gain 5% of his maximum rage

Tryndamere got 400+100 per level rage (400/2100) at 1/18

When Tryndamere would suffer a fatal blow, he instead of taking the damage which would kill him enter Undying Rage. Whilst under the effect of Undying Rage, damage that Tryndamere takes remove Rage instead of Health point. Undying Rage takes end when Tryndamere runs out of Rage, Rage can still be gained through ability or basic attack whilst Tryndamere is in the effect of Undying Rage.

Tryndamere lose Rage quickly whilst under the effect of Undying Rage, he loses 5% of his maximum Rage per second in the first 2 seconds, after this delay he loses 10% maximum Rage per second. Past 4 seconds he loses 20% maximum Rage per second until Undying Rage takes end.

Tryndamere can't gain rage for the next 6 seconds after exiting undying rage. Undying rage have a 60 seconds cooldown

Tryndamere lose 10% maximum rage per seconds after exiting combat

Q spell CD 12/11/10/9/8 sec cd Bloodlust ACTIVE : Tryndamere next basic attack heals him for 10% of his current rage

  • 30/45/60/75/90 (+0.1 AP) and gives him an additional 5% of his maximum rage if hitting an enemy champion or an epic monster

**W spell CD : 14/13.5/13/12.5/12 sec ** Mocking Shout RANGE : 850 ACTIVE: Tryndamere throw out a mocking shout, affecting nearby enemy champion depending if they are turning their back or facing Tryndamere. Enemy champion with their back turned are slowed by 30 / 37.5 / 45 / 52.5 / 60% and deals 10/12.5/15/17.5/20% less damage to Tryndamere for 4 seconds. Enemy champion facing Tryndamere grant Tryndamere 5% maximum Rage per target affected and deals 20/25/30/35/40% less damage to Tryndamere for the next 4 seconds

E spell CD : 11/10/9/8/7 Spinning Slash ACTIVE: spin through terrain and enemies dealing 70/100/130/160/190 (+1.1 bonus ad) (+0.6 AP) physical damage gaining 5% maximum rage per enemy champion hit.

basic attack against enemy champion reduce this spell CD by 1.

R spell CD : 100/80/60 Rageous Strike ACTIVE:

Tryndamere takes a small time to prepare for a furious strike (0.5 second) with a width of 150 and a range of 250 in a area, emiting a small shockwave (extra 50 range in width and range) Units directly hit by the blade are stunned for 1.5 seconds and takes 50/70/90 + (2.0 total AD) units hit by the shock-wave are slowed by (20%/30%/40%) for 1.5 seconds and takes 25/35/45 + (1.0 TAD) physical damage If Tryndamere hit an enemy champion with this ability, he gains 10/15/20% Maximum Rage

You know, I have to say: pushing Undying Rage into his Passive and replacing his ultimate ability with an actual attack...Is absolutely genius. His Undying Rage passive can be gated by a large cooldown like Aatrox's Blood Well revive, which, while I'm not 100% on the duration of death-immunity, I still think is really well-balanceable and stops Undying Rage from crowding out other defensive tools.

(not to mention it provides a pretty clever parallel between the Darkin Blade and the Barbarian King)

I love the idea of the Ult as well; short leap forward, heavy hit, massive shockwave - perfectly fits with Tryndamere's overwhelming strength.

And if I might say, I have a feeling your Q redesign was made with some of what I said in mind - pulling it away from "top off after kill" and pushing it more into "use in fight to stay in fight" :P

I also like the W concept, primarily in that it's damage absorption that translates into extra rage: Hitting Tryndamere will only infuriate him more. I'd imagine it'd do well as %damage absorbed translated to Rage - but ignoring the specifics, the concept is really solid!

@Umbral Regent Ahaha, I really think his current ultimate should be moved to passive. Also yeah, the idea is that you'll try to maintain rage by fighting.

It works more or less for Kled, that's kinda the same concept. Also I'm trying to let undying rage playable around by your opponent

Not sure if I'm a fan of much of the kit, but I also agree that making undying rage more of a passive is probably for the best. It makes him less of a series of auto attacks propped up by an ult.

I'm not usually a huge fan of people posting about Tryn reworks (last time I viewed one it was far too broken for me to handle) but this.....I could get behind a bit.

Moving his undying to his passive is interesting and keeps arguably his most iconic thing about him. I do have to ask though: Will he still be able to gain rage while his undying effect is active, and is there some sort of cooldown on it or is it like Sion's and Karthus' where is can happen all the time (so long as you have full rage)? Also what do you mean by "can't reduces more than 50% dmg from armor and magic resist whilst in undying rage" I'm having a little trouble understanding what that means. Plus 8 seconds seems a bit much.

Q is a bit better but having him heal off of his current rage, which can go up to 2100, seems a bit much since he could just instantly heal to full again.

W is interesting but are the numbers in %? Also having him become immune to damage while under undying rage seems...odd when he's already immune to death. I mean I get it its suppose to help keep his bar up but if he's immune to damage then how is he suppose to gain rage from the whole effect? Plus wouldn't you be wasting 3 seconds to keep your rage bar up when you could be hitting champs and gaining rage from them?

E for the most part I love, mostly where he has to hit champs to gain that stupid CDR instead of just bashing anything

Ult I feel is pretty well done. That's all really.

Thanks for answering ! I'll answer point by point, but first remember it's only a concept, so some thing might be not working very well or number might be too high.

In my idea he would still be able to gain rage under the effect of Undying rage, basically he'll stay immune except if he get really really outbursted/hard CCed rotation. I also though of it like a permanent factor in Tryndamere identity, so no long cooldown for his passive. The initial though was a Sion passive, but with a few chance to stay alive at the end, maybe the chance are too high right now. Adding a cooldown to it is hard to tell, if needed, yeah. 8 seconds is prolly too much, especially at early levels. For 50% damage reduction through armor and mr, I meant you can't stack armor and magic resist to reduce in high number the damage under undying rage (We don't want tank Tryndamere)

For Q, heals goes only to up to 300 at level 18, that doesn't seem to me so high ? Still reduce-able.

W is meant to be used for gaining rage before Undying rage pops up, but when you think about it thoroughly, you reduces 50% of the incoming damage into rage, but if the damage you take goes to rage, that means you don't take damage. That's where this interaction while Undying rage came from.

Also yes, damage absorption is in %. It's also meant to be used when you'll take too much damage to witness, even under Undying rage. or when you're CCed. So basically meant to be a bit like a Fiora ripost.

E was meant to try to stop a bit the insane split-pushing and PvE.

Ok thanks for clarifying. I mean I get that undying is a part of his identity but having it up/not having a cooldown on it like Sion's doesn't really leave him open for counterplay, since he just has wait out the timer to gain fury again, regain it, and the cycle then repeats. And for 8 seconds, if I recall, that was the original duration of the ability before it got nerfed down to 4 (right?). The armor and MR I can understand a bit better, but considering that he's losing his passive crit and still may need to be attack speed/on-hit/crit focused I didn't really see that as a problem but I do understand where you're going with that.

Q was my bad. I read it poorly and didn't apply the 10% to current rage, thinking it was max rage and 100%.

W....Ok again I can see where you were going with this. However when you describe it as Fiora's riposte I'm now a little concerned. I mean, yeah she blocks all damage like this, with benefit of also stunning someone if she blocks hard CC (which is complete bullshit still - _ -), but even then that's only for like a second or half second. Here you're reducing/blocking damage for a full 3 seconds. Now I'm not saying this won't work, cause who knows it might actually work, but I would just say keep cautious about applying this.

W is meant some way or another to counter damage and charge rage around the countered damage, other iteration might be found.

About his Ultimate, It was 7s, nerfed to 6s then to 5s, it currently still is 5s.

Hmm

I think we can add a rage decay instead of an 8 seconds maximum.

Arakadia2 votes

I like it, makes him less of a split push bot due to the ult. I think he should only get bonus rage from last hits if he kilos an enemy champion though, because farming shouldn't fill him too easily.

Other easier Rework concept, tell me what you think : Passive - Same

**Q spell - Same CD ** tryndamere next basic attack heal him for the current heal numbers (still depending on fury) , AP ratio severly nerfed, don't consume fury anymore.

W spell - CD 12 tryndamere smash in front of him, creating a shock-wave (800 units) dealing 10/20/30/40/50 (+1.0 total AD) physcial damage to directly hit enemy can crit, grant 5 fury for each enemy champion hit by the blade, double fury (10) if crit. slowing directly hit enemy by 60/65/70/75/80% for 1 second Enemy hit by the shock-wave and the blade are slowed for 30/37.5/45/52.5/60 for 4 seconds

E spell - Same spell

R spell - CD 110/100/90 grant instantly 50/75/100 fury Can't be reduces below 30/50/70 health for the duration of Undying rage. While under the effect of Undying rage, Tryndamere lose 5 fury each 0.2 seconds. When fury runs out, Undying rage ends. After 6 seconds, fury loses speed is doubled (5 fury each 0.1 seconds)
