There's no reason a tank that builds pure defensive items should have a smaller shield than a fighter bruiser that builds pure offensive items..
There's no reason a tank should have significantly less CC than a bruiser
(Yes, i'm salty after a game of noticing a Riven's shield was much higher than mine, we won the game and I beat her so i'm not salty over being outplayed i'm salty over how disgusting that shield of hers was and how puny mine was)
The Sword Saint2 votesRiven doesn't have or build any resists to back up that shield, which makes it about as tough as paper mache compared to a tank with a spammable shield like shen. Shen doesn't need to have a higher shield value because each point in his shield is worth much more than rivens due to his resistances, not to mention that anyone auto attacking him while taunted does less damage on top of that which makes his shield even stronger relatively. On top of THAT, shen has kit in built sustain, which means that shielding damage allows him to regen up his hp where as riven simply doesn't take the damage during her shield. Also shen's shield lasts longer than riven's ~1s shield. I could go on more about the shield ability itself, but you should get the idea by now.
Also, shen could easily build something like abyssal scepter for the resists, aoe mres shred, and increased shield from the ap, or any other tank item that gives ap, if he really was concerned about the raw shield numbers value he was getting, and none of this would really weaken his ability to do his job, where any time riven builds defense it's going to have a big impact on her ability to do damage - which is her primary duty.

shyv1 votesshen really doesn't need a buff. i rarely lose lane with him, but if you do, he's great at farming under turret with a max q and his passive. you basically just farm all game and occasionally your jungler wants to come up to get a free kill (if you land a good taunt it's basically secured 100% of the time) but you don't need kills at all to be an unstoppable late game tank.
just farm. like. farm all game and focus on nothing but farm unless your enemy laner is really bad in which case, poke them down until you can kill them but don't do anything risky.
also shen has a smaller shield because i'm assuming you're not building ap, which his shield scales off of. riven's scales off of ad which she is going to build every game obviously.

The entire point of the post is the fact a bruiser shouldn't build offensively and have a better defensive ability than a tank that builds actual defense. I would understand if he was like gragas and built RoA and Rylias etc.
Also shen does in fact need a buff, the only pro to picking him over literally ANY other tank is his ultimate, one of which has just as many downs as ups to. I enjoy him but he's in a horrible spot right now and has been for some time

when i said shen could 1v5 i meant that he could jump into the entire enemy team and still come out alive, in a teamfight. riven can't do that, she'll get focused down too quickly in a teamfight and most riven player build her super squishy so if she tries to do anything but clean up then she's probably fucked.
