Why does darius have a 55% winrate and rising in DIAMOND?

Eyesack··63 votes·4,774 views

With an 11% overall pick rate too.

I dont understand why you wouldnt just nerf his numbers, hes obviously out of line at the moment.

Champion gets 1 or 2 kills and then starts tower diving you 100-0 and there's nothing to do about it but leave your lane altogether.

darius can use CoC with his e.also some pros took ghost or exhaust as the second spell on him and it was busted as hell. The rise to the winrate is due to CoC mainly though.

youre actually correct. highest winrate is flash + ghost on him.

How do you allow a juggernaut like Darius to stick to carries, dive them, and keep up with enemy champions who only have flash?

summoner 6

You remove almost all the weaknesses of a champion and allow him to run down the likes of Gnar Jayce Kennen and the enemy ADC and Mid after item 3116 got nerfed? That's just a bunch of things working together nicely. Not even to mention CotC giving him a shield to survive the beginning of fights.

It's not Darius. It's just a culmination of things external to him.

i have no empathy.

all those champions are pure cancer, and especially rylais. the only reason people pick these top laners is to get the range vs. melee matchup for an easy lane, and to constantly bully around the melee champ with nonstop auto attack poke.

its fun seeing them be obliterated by a darius for a change.

OyddAWqJ5r6 votes

Haha I totally agree. Let's let this sink in for a little while so the cancersticks get to feel as useless as every top laner they face.

Unfortunately, champions like Darius and Illaoi are cancersticks as well.

Why? Darius is no better than the rest of them. xD

He gives up either Teleport or Flash to take Ghost though; Flash+Ghost as Critmaster mentioned reduces a lot of his map presence, so punish him for it.

Tp tends to be garbage in solo q. Coordination is shaky at best. Stomp lane and that's usually sufficient given the snowbally nature of league atm.

GigaPube26 votes

why? because anything with a small sample size can have a slightly larger than normal winrate. that answers the question

for the assumptions, 11% pickrate. boy you love your percentages :) why are you avoiding the real numbers? you scared of them or....are you....god forbid....sensationalizing this post to get what you want?!?!? :O

they dont nerf champs because of an 8000 player sample size, in 1 little region, in 1 little tier of play, with 1 insignificant butthurt little brat complaining

"champion gets 1 kill, and then 100-0's you under tower" thats weird, usually 99% of the time, including challenger and even the highest levels of pro play, most 100-0 tower dives utilize the help of a jungler, or just poke them any amount that isnt under the tower, or just wait til they have, i dunno, maybe a tad more than 1 kill before towerdiving 100-0, as you put it.....idiot.....

so right when you're still sobbing, you hopped right the fuck on na.op.gg, looked at darius's stats and said "damn, only 50.42% winrate, nobody will get riled up with me with that" so you clicked diamond, and, as a reasonable diamond player, you probably said "damn 55% winrate, i cant use that either, thats fucking nothing, im not a fuckin moron to make a whiney post about a 55% winrate champion in 1 region in 1 tier of play, that isnt even master or challenger, with a sample size of 8000 people out of 100 million who play this game monthly" then you said "oh wait a secoooonnnnd, i looked into the future, and i DID make this post, meaning i am a fuckin moron, and i CAN make this post with this 8000 player sample size :D"

but for the creme de la creme. you didnt even try to hide it. on this very account you have posted from, no less than an hour after the game, you fucking fed a darius LMAO. you lost to a darius right fucking then and came here to bitch about it you slimy little shit. you went 0/7 and the darius went 14/2, now you've come here and concocted over 55 comments in a few hours, and nobody knows that its just the whinings of a spoilt manipulative brat

its actually shameful to see a diamond pulling this shit, but i guess theres been more toxic literal children playing professionally. ill pretend being butthurt about the loss has clouded your judgement

nice try though scrub, probably wouldnt have even bothered with this if you just posted it on another account. people love a sob story, but not a story of someone sobbing

I would assume the rising popularity of Maokai, Nautilus and Poppy in the top lane would be a major contributing factor.

He tends to crush them in the laning phase and Black Cleaver shreds through their armor.

Also, changes to keystone masteries helped him out. Fervor of Battle was buffed (which is useful against tanks) and CotC is pretty good on him.

He walked away meaning you have an opportunity to disengage. Also that combo has a high mana cost especially considering mobile champs can still deny the heal.

Understand how you sound now?

Melledoneus3 votes

I can take multiple approaches to responding to your argument.

  1. Ryze is short ranged, immobile, and relies on you not having minions or any other units blocking his Q, or else he will lose the trade. Snaring someone is fruitless when your damage can't hit your target. There's nothing "guaranteed" about it. You're a relatively squishy mage that has to get in near-melee range to even damage a target.

  2. You're trying to justify a problematic champion with another problematic champion. That's like saying "Irelia's playstyle is not interactive? Bah. Lee Sin can do the same thing, thus you are stupid."

Please try to formulate a valid argument before pressing 'Post.'

Short ranged? Perhaps. Immobile? Sure, if you ignore the speed boosts he gets. That's the standard weaknesses of being a juggernaut. He's tanky enough to warrant that. However, I don't get the alone part. Darius is even more devastating with his team because his tools are amazing for drawing attention and catching out opponents, not to mention the potential penta-dunk.

FIne lets try this, Vel E hit me, now he gets a free Q and w passive proc

Oh, you mean that slow moving skillshot that has a travel time even when you're on top of him? If you're that close to him, you're either tanky enough to weather the hits or mobile enough to dance around him and dodge his skillshots. Vel'koz is annoying, but if you get in his personal space he's very ineffective.

CHampions whose kit interact with each other are designed to do this, its called comboing.

I'm fine with getting rewarded for landing a skillshot or an ability as long as it takes some effort to pull off. Darius E-Q requires very little effort or thinking and once you have phage on him it's almost zero counterplay as he now has free reign to wail on you if you're not a bunny-hopping mobile champ.

Papa Andrei1 votes

FOr the being alone part I mean if he is alone and the enemy is alone, if there are more enemies then teamates, he is practically useless. He gets focused down, slowed, kited, etc. He excells as a teamfighter and a duelist, thats where his strength lies. But he is absolutely horrendous if he gets outnumbered, focused, or caught out, (Unless super ahead but thats a given.

Vel koz E has almost same range as W and Q if aimed just straight, and pretty easy to hit vs anyone without dashes or high movement speed. (Bloody Cassiopeia) And Vel is useless ish melee to close range, same as Darius can't do shit vs people who can out range and keep that range. like Kayle, Cait, Vayne, Ryze, Olaf, Cho, Kennen, Urgot, or even ones like Riven if they have a decent support.

While Yes his E Q is very little effort, its same as Annie combo, the mechanics are low, but the decision making and timing are what make him a decent player vs a new player. Do you engage with it, or flash into them and save the E for when they use their dash and interrupt. And generally mid late game if you are someone like an xerath, ziggs, viktor, or other dashless champion, you musta had real poor positioning to get caught by a Darius running straight at you. (Unless he just Phage, windspeakers, swifties, and ghost with righteous glory.)

You do realize his Q heals for up to 36% of his missing HP, and the condition is he hits more people, right? Also, his ult resets and passive gets full stacks during his Blood state, so he excels at fighting multiple people if they lack the tools to lock him down/burst him down fast enough before he destroys them.

Vayne, Cho, and Olaf are close enough range for Darius to fight. For freak's sake two of those are melee!

Darius invalidates every melee in the game top lane. You can't trade with him, he can engage on you if you step up, and if he manages to get close you are permaslowed and he will pull you back if you dash away. It's cancerous.

He transitions into an amazing teamfighter with the best cleanup in the game, and does not fall off from being a lane bully, unlike some other champions.

there are some melee matchups who are able to completely dump on him. fiora outclasses him at every stage of the game for example.

THE RlVER KlNG2 votes

It was hyperbole. There are 3-4 champions that can hypothetically win against him in lane, such as Trundle, Fiora, Riven, and Tahm Kench. But he outscales virtually all of them and it takes much more skill-intensiveness on the person that isn't Darius's end, often to the point that even trying isn't fun. Sure, his Q is dodgeable, but covers a lot of area and is longer than every melee's auto-attack range, as is his pull. If he gets to minions first, or even gets one kill ahead, its already game over.

Plus, Fiora is also bullshit. She gets a ton of free tools to beat on her lane opponent, just like Darius.

Darius only outscales one of the four you listed (Tahm Kench.) The other three massively outscale him.

hes already ahead in that gif. and even for being ahead, he didnt do that much.

fiora also did that trade wrong. she missed the parry on his q for one. she shouldnt even try to parry it.

she needs to dash into him inside the inner circle of his q, and keep triggering vitals, and save riposte for his ult. OR she can parry his w or the hook for the stun, ult him and just shit on him.

what she did there was burn her parry after the q already hit her, and disengage from him in the worst possible moment, after he already burned all of his cooldowns, and is significantly less of a threat.

if youre waiting 45 seconds until he pulls you again with coc instead of keep going, then yea he will win. if you just dash into him when he tries to poke you with his q, you will win even early trades.

point is, darius abilities are too telegraphed for fiora to get hit by them. her dash cooldown is shorter than his q cooldown.

Darius is broken. Not necessarily overpowered, but his kit is stupid.

He's anti-fun as hell to go against if you're melee, because running away from him means you eat his Q and he pulls you back in. If you go to last hit, he can just pull you in and then even if you get away, he's won the trade, otherwise, he just kills you.

I know there are exceptions to the rule, but laning against Darius is pretty much a one of two things. Either he crushes you or he is useless and you crush him.

It's like laning against Akali. Either her numbers are big enough to wreck you, or you ignore her and do the same.

About the best you can do against Darius as a melee who doesn't have a particularly good matchup against him is to just soak experience and give up all hope of farming.

MunchCrunchLunch6 votes

he isn't nearly as anti fun as pantheon. and if your melee mordekaiser is worse than darius. darius can be outplayed. simply play a champion with a dash. dash inside his Q. and beat him up. get out rinse and repeat. does it always work. no. but its decent counterplay to him considering he can be kited in teamfights

they will eventually when they realize that having that amount of speed makes him difficult to kite in a team fight flash is nice for flash grabs mostly, but that's about it

honestly, i hope they don't catch to much on the trend because its much more harder to deal with a ghosting darius than a flash one.
