Thinking of startin a "How to Beat" series for frustrating champions.

HalcyonDweller··41 votes·2,726 views

As stated in the title, I'm thinking of starting a 'how to beat' series in which I analyze champions we find frustrating in order to determine the best ways to beat them.

Here's how this works, if you're interested then vote yes on the survey. If you have a specific champion you would like to see done, follow the instructions below.

To make requests for specific champions:

  1. Pick a champion.
  2. Look in the comments section below to see if that champion has been requested already.
  3. If it has, reply to that comment with a "yes" or other sort of affirmation.
  4. otherwise feel free to add a new champion by commenting on the original post.

For example I want to see this done for "XYZ" I notice XYZ is already in a request comment, therefore I should reply to that comment in affirmation, as shown in the comments below:

Note: We are using replies instead of the voting system because players could downvote a request to negate others' votes.

EDIT 1: Here's the list of requests so far, with scores as of Monday morning:

List moved down with updates.

As of this time, it looks like I'll start with Yasuo and then go with whatever catches my interest the most, unless one of the champions gets more affirmative responses.

EDIT 2: Holy crap, this took off way more than I expected! I'm glad to see people like the idea and want this, but I also want to caution you that I'm not perfect.

I don't know about some of these, so I'll have to do research and/or start threads to discuss some of them (Darius for example, I have no idea yet how to play against).

Since I am fallible and could misunderstand things, I think I'm going to err on the side of caution and start discussion threads about the champions I work on. That way we can hear everybody's thoughts and get as much information as we can before I compile it into a single post.

New List is:

Yasuo - 3 - Discussion started, come join in! Link here -> Yasuo: In preparation for my first How to Beat X Post Pantheon - 1 Tryndamere - 1 Lucian - 1 Renekton - 1 Fizz - 1 Kled - 1 Swain - 1 Syndra - 1 Draven - 1 Caitlyn - 1 Thresh - 1 Camille - 1 Darius - 1 Akali - 1 Lux - 1 Zyra - 1 Fiora - 1 Orianna - 1 Immunity / Invulnerability team comps - 1

Yes! The community needs less complaining about popular picks and more discussion about how to beat them.

Except some popular picks in their current state are almost impossible to beat.

Pick Darius/Renekton if top. Pick any control mage mid and don't spam all of your abilities into his windwall.

I am curious how many variations of "hard CC Them" you can come up with so take my yes vote. Reminder deaths still the best CC in the game.

Some times, the best thing you can do vs panty is swap lanes and roam hella. he either gets a less your FK you matchup, or he loses cs to chase after you each swap. If your matchup vs their mid is better, go mid. he follows and its an easyer lane to gank. He does not and hey you get better cs.

Kled

I have no idea how to beat this champ. Dodge the Q yeah ... but you don't get to dodge 100% of them, and just one is really punishing.

Hello guy! I probably shouldn't be telling you all the secrets of the trade, but I'm feeling generous, so I will. There are a couple of good ways to beat Kled. The best way is simply to pick Malphite. To say that Malphite dumpsters Kled would be an understatement. You see, if you just max your E, the attack speed slow is strong enough to completely prevent Kled from getting a full violent tendencies off, and that is always an incredibly significant source of damage. Other good Kled counters are Teemo, Dr. Mundo, Tryndamere, Yas (walling the gunshot hurts soooooo bad), Olaf. There are more but they escape me for the time being. Champs to not picking against Kled, are mostly (perhaps surprisingly) ranged champs. Kled excels at getting on them and sticking on them. Ranged top laners such as Kennen, Gnar (does he count), Lissandra, Swain all lose to Kled, provided he knows what he is doing. For general counterplay, it may often seem that the trick to beating Kled is dodging his q, but the best way to counterplay him is to play around his cooldowns. Both his W and his E have over 10 second cooldowns until around level 9, so as soon as he pops just one of these cooldowns, the W especially, you should really trade. Just make it a brief skirmish, you can often do half his health bar while he can only do about a quarter of your health bar. Finally, DO NOT dismount Kled if you don't have enough damage to burst him. Often I go up against people who just blow all of their shit on me, don't kill me, and all of a sudden I remount and come ahead in a fight I was losing. Side notes: if Kled has marked you with his E, and you move over a wall, he can follow you with second cast. Both Q and E give him true sight.

Hit me up if you have any further questions. I also hope I never have to lane against any of you guys >.<

Thanks for your time. I'm a Nasus main, I picked him recently into Kled to test my limits. Needless to say I fed hard. I'll try other champs, thanks. How do I play around the EQE (with a few autos) combo? I keep getting crushed by it if I don't freeze at my tower. Btw, congrats for one-tricking him! I wish I had the patience to do so. Him, and Sol. I love these champs.

Death by Kayn2 votes

EQE certainly is a tough one. The easiest answer is to dodge it, but it isn't really practical, so I digress. If Kled does land his E on you, forget about trying to escape the Q. As soon as the E lands, your goal should be to punish the Kled as much as possible. He is going to hit you, so you might as well hit him back. An important thing to note about Kled is he has very limited disengage. If he has used his E to go in, it will be hard for him to go out. So immediately run AROUND the Kled. This means if he wants to reactivate his E, he will be putting himself at a disadvantage. I have found myself many time recasting my dash and putting myself under the enemy tower because they looped around me right when I cast it. If you are playing Nasus, a few tips to that matchup in particular. Maxing W or weaving skill points will probably prove most beneficial. The W is just an amazing skill to use against Kled. Don't focus as much on stacking Q as you would normally do, as Kled can punish you for this. As noted earlier, the best of time to take action is when he has used his major abilities. If his W is on CD, know that you have a good 10ish seconds to farm. Also, Kled is a very roam centric champion. The most common Kled builds involve an early tiamat. And this means he will automatically push the wave. If you can successfully freeze the wave under the tower this will often pressure the Kled into roaming, mostly with his Ult. AS SOON as he does this, hardpush your lane. If you are particularly uncomfortable against Kled, I would recommend going with exhaust as a summoner spell, as well as rushing a frozen heart. Frozen heart is one of the best items to build against the Cancerous Cavalier.

you asking for in lane or for when your adcing as mf?

Zakrani1 votes

When I'm ADCing as MF.

Even if I'm fed, full build, I get dumpstered by him, even with my team attempting to peel for me.

Death by Kayn2 votes

Honestly there's not much counterplay to Kled as an immobile adc. Those are my favorite late game snax :/ Gotta rely on your team. Although I will say that a good Cait can rip him a new one

Kai Guy2 votes

Lets see, ideally as mf your team will get aoe cc for wombo. but cant depend on it. So your best bet will be to position around teammates so you can use them to body block his R. Keep them in-between you and open areas. Do not hug them as that's just asking for the EQw, keep some distance so you can dodge his Q. use your E on allies as he dashes thru them to give yourself more wiggle room, resign yourself to a few deaths if team cant/wont peel and wait out his Q if its on you before the desperation ulti for as much damage as you can put out (ideally youd just have peel and he wouldent get the W off.)

Your jobs gonna be to keep your self as safe as you can from his Rs and EQs. when he uses a skill and its not on you/missed ya then its time to auto a few times with a double up weaved in.

You can use W to break tether by the ms boost but only when hes landing long range Qs.

Consider pushing side lanes before mid as there's less areas he can R at you from.

You know, a person without hands can spend years studying and analyzing league and know more about it than faker, but he will still be in low elo. Because he has no hands.

Yea I know about him, but the point still stands, some people have poor reflexes, some people have disabilities, some people don't have time, that doesn't stop them from learning about the game, it only stops them from climbing at a certain point.

Aww... I was personally thinking about doing this... but it would probably better if you did it lol. I have no follow through. That's mostly the reason I haven't done that. Or completed any life goals.

I think this would be great! I can mater x champion and do everything, but Theres always a few champions I struggle against(mostly Darius ) and it would be great, now, are you gonna do something along the lines of: "if you main x champions, heres how you can do better against x champions"? cause i think it'd be nice since the same strat might not work for everyone.

edit: it'd also be cool if you got help from the champions mains, if people ever need help against braum i'll try to help~

will you do it with all 130+ champions or just the ones you like? if you do a sort of mini-run through with all champions in all 5 lanes i'd like to see that. if you're just going to generalize it then nah. dont care. it's been done before.

HalcyonDweller1 votes

For now I'm probably just going to do the ones that people request.

If I find that I have regular free time to do this then I might try to do every champion, since I like to data-dump and learn as much as I can about the game and this is a fun way to do that.

BLACK REALM GOD1 votes

not what i meant. "how to beat"

you have a vote choose the champion you're going to beat. that much i understand.

the question was are you going to show how to beat that champion with every champion on the roster in every lane? because that would be impressive and worthwhile. it would take time and consideration.

like for example with yasuo - if you're just going to show base character yasuo being beaten by x pick in draft lobby mid lane then that's lame because it's been done numerous times.

if instead you're showing yasuo base stats times _____ masteries times x lane (1, 2, 3, 4, or 5) vs n champion (Aatrox - Zyra) = win on patch ____

then yeah that sounds awesome. especially if you keep it up to date for each patch.

HalcyonDweller2 votes

Ah I see what you mean, sorry I don't think I have quite that much time on my hands.

I agree though, a guide like that would be lit!

i think a series should be started teaching people how to climb im looking for help to climb i have no idea what im doing wrong in games

HalcyonDweller2 votes

Unfortunately I'm not the best person for that sort of series, as I have never really tried to climb in ranked. Generally speaking though, anything you do to improve your skill and level-headedness will translate to climbing higher in the game.
