On na.op.gg you can check winrate statistics for champions. You can check this with filters for solo queue, ranked teams, normals, aram, etc...
Lee Sin is one of the most played champions at least this last month. He also has one of the lowest winrates in solo queue. I did not check any other formats.
I am not here to argue about if Lee Sin's mobility needs to be nerfed, if his ratio's are too good, or any other side people like to complain about. Lee Sin cannot be "The God 1v5 solo queue king!" and have one of the lowest winrates. There are ways to beat Lee Sin; I have beat Lee Sin as a laner and as a jungler, I have also been beaten as Lee Sin.
So here are some thoughts about Lee Sin and fighting him.
- Lee Sin is vastly considered a ganking / invading jungler. This means he tries to secure an advantage in game by ganking your laners and getting himself or his laners fed, or he like to go into your jungle, steal your camps, and try to find and kill the jungler on your team.
a) If you are a jungler against Lee Sin, get an early ward (plus trinket ward). What you want to do is to set up a ward or two around the mid and top entrances/exits from Lee's jungle. This way, your team can be aware of Lee Sin's movements (bot lane should have their entrance warded and be aware if Lee shows there). If Lee Sin is coming to invade your jungle, you can gank him at a jungle camp or even gank him with a fellow teammate and secure a kill/advantage for your team. If Lee Sin is coming to gank, the vision will allow your laners to know about where he is and you can set up a counter gank. If Lee goes all in to gank, your lane can turn and kill him or his laner.
b) If you are a laner you just need to treat Lee like most junglers and keep up some decent vision around your lane. Try not to get tunnel vision on your lane opponent and realize that if Lee Sin has not be seen in a while, there is a chance he may be around to gank you if you are pushed up constantly or if your lane opponent is acting unusually bold. If you are already having trouble in lane (barely keeping even or are behind) and Lee Sin camps you, this is just good jungling sense. In the jungle you go where you can gain an advantage, an opponent who is losing can net you an advantage. If you fail to see the gank coming, therefore don't react, that is your fault. If you don't keep up vision that is your fault. If your jungler is never there to counter gank, DO NOT count on him to show up. Back up so you don't die. If you die and yell at your jungler because he wasn't there, well you should have left. You had no back-up!
- Lee Sin does not have an incredible late game but is generally considered viable due to his insec ways.
a) Many champions can Insec. Azir can jump to soldiers, flash, ult multiple people into your team (and they can't jump back over those soldiers!). Alistair can run the loop-de-loop on you and headbutt pulverize, pulverize headbutt, flash pulverize headbutt. Oh and ult and be near indestructible for a few seconds. Janna can split up a team with her ultimate if she wants. Displacement is not a new thing.
b) Lee Sin has to position to insec somebody. If you are not positioning around his engage, then that is also your fault. For Lee Sin to insec optimally (besides just walking behind your team, Q, R, Q) he needs to engage with his Q, W or Flash, Kick you, then W or Flash away. If he does not hit his intended target with his Q, he has to Q, then use both his W and his Flash to get to his target, then kick them. This puts him at extreme risk. The team should be able to respond to a incoming Lee who has to W and Flash. If there is no CC on the team to disrupt him, that is a composition problem. The last option is the hardest for Lee, and should also be the most common. I main ADC. If I get hit by a Lee Sin Q while in a group, that is my bad. If I get insec'ed then I messed up. If somebody else gets hit with the Q and I don't position so I cannot be insec'ed, then that is my bad. If I am a tank / blocker and I let Lee Sin have a clear line from himself to my carries, then that is also my bad. Positioning can straight up stop a Lee Sin Insec. And if you played appropriately with vision early (against an early game jungler) than he should not be snowballed to where he can walk into your team and live. Remember early game snowball champ that gets 13 (lots of) kills early will be a nightmare mid game. That is your teams fault for not keeping vision up.
These are just two of the most common spots I see people complain about Lee. His utility ult late game and his ganking / invading early. These are both very counterable by any champion, but they are counterable using game knowledge not individual champion skill. This is why he can be a terror, especially at lower elo's where vision and positioning may not be a strongly reinforced skill with many players.
Hopefully this will help you in further games against any of those Lee Sin's (he does an incredibly high pick rate, so learning basic things to counter him helps).
