I don't understand how this happened (consistently) with slows and MS

Consistently in my last game, playing as Quinn, the (fed) enemy ezreal would manage to use his blink followed by an IBG slow to get on me, and stick to me while chasing me.

What I don't understand, is I should have been FASTER than him despite the slow, because I used my Youmuu's active in response...

Quinn base MS: 335 Ezreal base MS: 325

Quinn MS items: Boots of Swiftness, Statikk Shiv Ezreal MS items: Boots of Lucidity

Quinn MS modifiers: IBG slow -30%, boots of swiftness reduces this slow by 25%, Youmuu's active +20% Ezreal MS modifiers: none

Quinn final MS: 335+55+335x0.05 -335x0.3x0.75 + 335x0.2 = 398.375 Ezreal final MS: 325 + 45 = 370 Also note that no Cloud Drakes spawned the entire game.

I should have had almost 30 extra MS, and yet he consistently was able to catch up to me by just running (recall, he already used his blink to snag me with the IBG proc). Is it possible that the slow is applying to total MS but the speed boost only applies to base MS? Or what else could be going on here?

He was never in range to use his BOTRK active. I don't believe he used his Quicksilver active to chase (he definitely didn't use it every time). Muramana and Dominiks don't give MS...

Base MS: 335

With item 3009: 390

With item 3087: 409,5

With item 3025's slow (already reduced by 25%): 334,28

With item 3142's active: 401,14

However, you have to look at the soft mov speed cap that is applied to you before the slow (without it and the slow, you'd be reaching 491,14 MS). Math aside, it would take about 15,5 MS away from you.

You'd end up with a 385,64 MS.

Ez would need some MS runes (or had another item/buff giving him MS) to keep up with you, but that's possible.

Does the soft cap apply despite a slow? That seems illogical... my MS is getting capped when I never exceeded the soft cap (since I didn't proc Youmuu's until after the slow). Even if I were to proc it first, the soft capping should be removed when I'm no longer above the cap due to the slow...

But yes, perhaps he had some MS quints or had the MS in river mastery. Never checked on that (would be unusual for an ADC to have the quints, but the mastery is very possible). Sometimes it may have been Lulu speeding him up (but sometimes she was dead). I guess other times may have just been that it was so close that he wasn't actually catching up, he caught up before I reacted with ghostblade and just stayed in range long enough.

I'm not 100% sure how the soft caps work, but they might gut you a bit.

Other than that, MS runes are not THAT uncommon (some players actually say they are unvaluable).

Like you said I thought you not being on his max range, but rather close to him. The MS difference is only 10 points, but for every 100 units closer to him, you'd take 10 extra seconds to escape. Seeing as how his Q has about 1000 range, it could potentially take you 1 minute and 40 seconds to escape (assuming it all started at melee range).

(since I didn't proc Youmuu's until after the slow)

Not sure about the cap and wether it applies before or after slows, but the order in which effects are proc'ed doesn't matter. Effects create (de)buffs, and at any point in time, your MS is calculated from the set of active (de)buffs, with the same formula every time. Order in this set is not taken into account.

EDIT: check the wikia to find the exact formula, and when the cap applies exactly.

Quinn final MS: 335+55+335x0.05 -335x0.3x0.75 + 335x0.2 = 398.375

This calculation is wrong. Slows are applied to your total MS, not just your base. So the MS you gain from Youmuu is ALSO reduced by slows, not just your base.
