All it takes is 2 losses

And you will literally never climb.

It doesnt matter if you win every single match up until that point. You could be bronze with Diamond MMR but it dont matter. If you lose twhose two games, sorry, you clearly arent good enough to climb.

My rank should not be so easily held back by someone else. In a 1v1 game mode i can understand, as youre in full control. But there are way too many factors that can play into losing a game that can cause a loss.

Someone dc'd permanently after 3 minutes? Sorry dude youre fucked.

Someone is toxic and int'ed? Sorry dude youre fucked.

Doesn't matter if I went 32/1 and took 8 towers and 3 inhibs and two solo barons. If someone else fucked up its still my rank that gets punished.

You can get stuck in games like this:

And it doesnt fucking matter. By all means if you did absolutely perfect it DOESNT MATTER. SOMEONE ELSE effected YOUR RANK and thats not fair.

This is why I hate this artificial difficulty. Old ELO was fine as it is. It was a simple rating. Singular games didnt stop you from climbing ranks beause there wasnt shit like this promotional garbage. You won more games than you lost than you climbed. Simple as that.

Won 10 games lost 2? Sorry bud you still didnt rank.

Seriously get rid of the artificial difficulty. No one likes it.

PS: Riot this post in no way is "Me being upset with X players behavior and should use the report system" so stop deleting it saying it is

Even if you overlook promo series skipping and other things that cause people to climb faster without unlucky streaks in series holding them back, getting demoted depends on your mmr. If you're diamond mmr in bronze, you could lose like 20+ games at 0 LP without a demotion untill your mmr was finally dragged down to bronze level.

Similarly, your LP gains/losses depend on your mmr relative to your division, so again a diamond mmr player in bronze would be gaining like 50 lp for a win and losing 2 or something silly like that. They'd also skip promo series and several divisions, but even if that wasn't a thing, and even if they did get unlucky and couldn't carry 2 games in their promo series, they'd be 1 game from triggering promo series again. Repeat until they don't get 2 unlucky losses during series in a row. (And really if it happens more than once, that means they are in a situation where they're losing more often than winning, and their mmr is hence falling, and you shouldn't be climbing with a <50% win rate anyway.)

edit: Theres a lot of artificial non-difficulty in the system with division skipping/promo helper/demotion shielding, and I don't think there actually is any artificial difficulty added. There's difficulty sure thats inherent to team games, but since almost everything is mmr based in reality, it's only the people who get lucky streaks to get promoted and have difficulties being demoted due to all the protections that throw off the system.

you didnt do perfect lol if your better you will climb quit bitchin

Its just an example.

Also as I said, even if you did do absolutely perfect if teammates cause two losses in promos it dont matter you still wont climb

We can all see your 49% winate over 630 games bud. You don't get demoted that quickly if your winrate is actually good. I get that you're frustrated by that game; I would be. But this was just 1 loss among many.

That picture was from last season. The point of it was to show that despite how hard I tried and how well I did my rank was effected because of somone else

Good players eventually climb. I never seen diamond/challenger even plat players complaining that they cannot climb back to their elo. Or that they can't get out of bronze. :D

I actually agree, ive had so many people say "if you don't like it play a game that only requires you as the sole player" but that's just a cop out answer, I shouldn't be held back because my teammates wanted to buy 6 mobi boots and go 0/20. But what can ya do .-.

SzGamer2271 votes

You can't be held back because of teammates. Your ladder climb doesn't depend on you carrying games because your teammates are always worse than you, it's about carrying bad teammates better than other players in your division, winning more when your team doesn't play terribly, and avoiding becoming the dead weight that your teammates have to carry. If you are doing all of those things, you will climb. If you're not climbing, you are not doing those things. Simple as that.

i agree I had multiple games like what he said! Make it based on how you performed as a sole player.

id rather the points to promote would be 150 over 2 promo gmes.

the stress it adds on and the teammates u get during promos make u hate even climbingto begin with.

my promos always result in at least 1 flamer or 1 afk. a l w a y s

Sympathies - that happened to me last season. I was playing in my placement matches - had a record of 7 wins and 2 losses in the first 9. Then suddenly I was hit by a string of games characterized by this in game chat: "FF@20", "what the F is ya doing bot?" (as said by that same toplaner who was going 0-3 in his lane), "Champion has quit/reconnected". And before I knew it, a Gold placement had turned into the realms of Silver "heck". It happens. But then that's the system everyone is stuck with... :|

As for those who try selling people on the dreams of solo carrying a whole game, it's just a pipe dream. The current version of the game still requires at least one or two others who are savvy enough to know what is going on.

Yeah it's a crap shoot on whether you'll get that 1 other person who can help you or not.

Actually that's wrong. You can skip your promos if you have high enough mmr. If you're for example gold 3 with high plat-low diamond mmr, you'll skip gold 3 promos and go straight to gold 1.

Don't get me wrong, I think promos are bullshit too. But that's not entirely how they work.

Hibeki1 votes

Thats not how things work. You have to pass a promo then it will skip you a division.

RiotSocrates: Hey all,

The response to the start of the 2014 ranked season has been staggering. We are seeing more players involved in ranked play than ever before and though there has been a lot of positive feedback there has been a few concerns brought up about promotional games. Specifically, there is a concern that if a player does poorly in placements then goes on a winning tear they could get stuck in a promotional series against players who are more highly skilled than the tier they are trying to enter. We investigated how many players were actually in this position and it’s a very small group. That said this can be a pretty frustrating experience so we’re releasing a change to allow players to skip promotional series up to plat 1 in the rare case they are consistently playing way above their current placement. The number of players who will actually qualify for promo skipping is quite small since the vast majority of players are placed very close to their expected position. Also, it’s worth noting that the existing mechanisms for correcting fast moving players position will remain in play. So you can trigger this as well as division skipping at the same time.

We expect this change to go into effect sometime in the next 24 hours.

Riot Socrates

It's common when challenger players play on smurf accounts and win their first like 15 games in a row.

what i dont understand is why the game cant use a 1000-9000k -25 / +25 like dota.

1st Movement1 votes

Because your mmr is low that's why you dropped divisions from two losses

Randomonium1 votes

I agree we should get rid of the promo system and just go back to an elo system.

Matchmaking is based on MMR. If you have a Plat MMR and are currently ranked Gold, you will have a 50% win rate because you are being matched with Plat players, but you will earn more LP when you win than when you lose, and you will still climb.

Promo series make the climb slower, (even if you are Plat playing in Diamond, you only have a 50% chance to advance, and if you don't that's another 5-8 ranked games you have to play to promote), but that doesn't stop you from climbing. Being in a higher MMR than your rank means you will float to the top of your division easily and have more chances to promote, even if the promotion system conflicts with the rest of the ranked system.

On another topic, you can never be held back because of teammates or matchmaking.

Just won 6 of my games to promotionals and was about to get out of shitter plat 5

had int feeders both my series games and the game following it

Now 45LP

3 remakes later I'm still trying to get into a game

Kaioko1 votes

We actually didn't used to have promotions matches but rather just full on MMRs that determined what division you were in (Bronze/Silver/Gold etc... without the I, II, II). Trust me that system was way harsher than what we have now - you do NOT want that back.
