The problem with Roots

If you slow the video down to .25 you can see that I cast my instant root prior to her E. One could argue that her E animation/cast time or w/e is faster than mine and I could agree with that. What I cannot agree with is that she completes her entire fucking backward dash while in my root. Do you understand how frustrating it is for someone to be IMMOBILIZED but still able to complete their mobility. What is the point of Ryze W if it doesn't halt mobility at that instance? There were a number of times in that game where I W Akali but she E's and make it impossible to catch up with her. It's just not fun how many champions are being released mobility that I cannot stop at the moment it is casted. Most of these champions mobility abilities are on a low CD and while Ryze W is on a low CD (it is maxed last so only in the late game) it is evident that these types of mobility are heavily favored. What I suggest is that roots need to have a grounded debuff or something to actually root champions.

That's nothing. You should see the shit Tristana and her jump gets away with.

I have a problem with hers too, this isn't just an Akali thing.

as much as i think the way it is coded is stupid... Tristana rocket jump and Ezreal arcane shift use cast animations... and cast animations can only be stopped by death. as soon as the cast animation stops, the move ability starts... and as the most recent movement ability it overide all other movement abilties.

i think it should be coded as a channel and not a cast.. but riot disagrees.

as for the OP

movement abilties are PREVENTED when rooted... but they wont be canceled mid movement.. for example... akali would not be able to CAST her E or RECAST the flip toward you while rooted.. but Ryze snare is a short duration and most of that duration took place during the movement animation. and after the root was over she was able to recast to go to you because u got hit by her E's skillshot.

if Akali was rooted BEFORE she casted her E she would not have been able to cast it at all until the root ended

Here is the thing. While she is moving the root time depletes which is, in my opinion, unfair.

It doesn't make a difference in this situation. She still gets the secondary dash from hitting the skillshot. Your root would only delay that by ~1 second. So I don't see how you win that even if you had a chance to throw your other spells at her sooner. You'd still take 3 turret shots and she'd still dash in and do all her stuff.

Right, but it would be more fair/make more sense if the W root time didn't start until after the dash is completed.

It would be a big buff to Ryze by actually reducing counterplay mobile champs have against him. I mean think about it, these champs have to activate their mobility skill with specific timing to outplay a targeted root or stun. If they don't have the right timing, then the root shuts them down. It's not like these champs can just play braindead against him. It may feel that way if you're being predictable though. Like in this clip you just run at her and make it really obvious you want to dive her.

I'm just not convinced that it's a healthy buff. It makes it harder to punish a player who's telegraphing their play in an obvious manner.

Fixing that would probably be too big a buff and you'd have to do no damage. cause your ult in pro play.

Rework incoming.
