I'm still trying to climb from Bronze as support. Like, with an actual support. Someone requested Leona last night so I took her and god did I feel like a total raid boss.
After the game I checked her stats - she's sub-50% win rate. Anyone know why? Can she carry? And do you build real tank:

CannonLordFreed2 votesLeona's utility makes her a good pick, and she does carry the way most supports will carry. If you continue to play her, you'll need to rely on somebody on your team to be competent and then set up plays for them, but that's how it is with most good supports, outside of Janna, Soraka, etc. I would personally build Support Tank on her just because Locket is OP as hell, but that's just me. I'm also bronze so there's the off chance I don't know what the fuck I'm talking about.

My build is super tank, with some damage. Its funny because they focus me a lot in fights, which is good for my team.

It works for me, I'm tanky and I can 1v1 most people on their team or hold them long enough for damage to finish them. It also allows you to help with objectives(Sheen is awesome on Leona). you CDR, tons or armor and health, you are a raid boss

DarkDinomax1 votesShe can, don't mind the winrate. Don't build warmog/sunfire though. I would always build support tank, but if you want to go real tank get: deadman's plate, thornmale, randuin, frozen hearth.
The reason to get those tanky items instead of warmog/sunfire is that they make you tanky AND help your team at the same time. Also even if going tank solari should be a must if they have AP.
Oh and consider the righteous glory if you need really hard engages

DarkDinomax1 votesi guess it can be done on soraka, or maybe mundo. I'd say garen in some situations maybe. Truth is that there are better items but i guess in mundo and garen should be good.
Always make sure to get enough hp to get the passive of course

Yes, Leona is a hard-carry support. I currently have a 76% winrate on her. My provisionals are putting me in high silver or low gold (don't know yet) off of playing Leona.
There are two things you must learn: 1: how to dodge poke (poke is her weakness- learn to defy it) 2: when the enemy is vulnerable (this needs to be your primary talent)

NekoniClaws1 votesYou get your tier 2 gold item and boots on first back, then after that rush either Face of the Mountain, so you can towerdive more often and win all duels, or sightstone, when the enemy team can roam a lot. Always click on them when you don't have enough gold and get the component items (all health)
In low elo you're probably your team's only tank, so you buy resistences and damage debuffs, but don't build your own damage, your scalings are awful. The build order for that is 'what keeps me alive?'
Banner of command has a pretty useless active, just google how to 'slow push a lane', and buy a defence item with a better active. Locket+Stoneplate are the ideal items right now. Activate stoneplate before locket and it doubles the shield power.

A lot of Warden/Catcher picks will either hard cc your adc or cock block you when you go in. Alistar will bump you. Braum will put his passive on your adc. Thresh can flay you or hook + flay your adc. Taric will just use Dazzle and then heal/shield his guy while using his passive on your guy...which leads to another Dazzle.
Leona's burst damage in her rotation was nerfed in favor of having more Q spam at later levels and having some of her damage output tied to AA'ing after using ult. Now match-ups she used to win rather easily, usually against enchanters, aren't as easily won because she traded her all-in damage for sustained damage, but enchanters shrug off sustained damage.
Tank supports tend to struggle against mage supports due to their high range and damage.
Leona finds it hard to win match-ups like she used to. Before she could at least stomp out advantageous lanes. Now she not only has to deal with Alistar bumping her around the lane, or Janna tornado-blocking her E dash, but she also has to deal with champs she used to beat in lane not getting beat as hard anymore. If you have someone like Ashe or Varus, you could go for a chain cc spree sort of idea, but outside of that, I'd steer clear of Leona.
Dominick Destine1 votesI play a lot of support and noticed Leona a lot weaker this second half of the season to the point where I stopped picking her.
This has a bit to do with the Locket and Redemption nerfs that happened recently. The problem with Leona similar to Taric, aside from her ult you can see her coming a mile away and her range is very poor. This means unless you are in a good position and your ult is up, you're not going to be catching people (That aren't terrible).
Since you stated that you are in bronze bracket, I doubt this will come into play but the more players you encounter that understand the radius and zones that each character brings alone, it becomes harder and harder to justify a Leona pick over ... say.... Thresh, Brand or even Trundle.
Don't worry about what you build, as long as you build Sightstone and keep wards up, the rest of your items are irrelevant.
