I may have to take back everything bad I've said about the new BE system...

So far on the forums I have spoken very negatively of the switch from IP to BE. I have only focused on the negatives, and I would like to take a moment to reiterate these points:

  • Ultimately, we receive less BE the more matches we play in one day compared to what we would have earned with IP.
  • Grinding XP to level up feels very unrewarding, especially when receiving a bunch of 450 champ shards.
  • Making Champion Mastery 6 and 7 require the equivalence of IP to unlock makes it seem like it is simply not worth it to invest in (why spend BE on mastery emotes when you can buy Champions and Chromas with it?)
  • The sudden increase in cost for Champion Mastery 6 and 7 seems like a greedy move for Riot, especially with the reason stated above.

Even though these issues still exist, I have begun to notice the positive aspects of the new system and I would like to note them:

  • Earning Hextech Chests by performing well on champions will now effectively give you the equivalence of IP, and we will really notice it once the new season resets our chests.
  • Using event tokens to get champion shards basically gives you free BE (I earned a few thousand during the recent PROJECT event).
  • In the event that you acquire a Champion Shard for a champion you do not already own, you can unlock it at a major discount.

When weighing in the positives with the negatives, I think I have to admit that most players will indeed come out much better for free currency under the new BE system than we did with IP. It is far from perfect, and it seems like many players really dislike the RNG factor when it comes to the shards we get when leveling up. Perhaps this is something Riot can work on as the new season rolls out, but for now I think I can say that I am satisfied with how the BE system will work out in the long run.

@Riot - Thank you for the hard work you guys have been doing to try to make the new currency system better and more fair for everyone.

I won't upgrade any of my champion mastery(s) .. it is way too expensive right now.

Your defence also has a couple flaws:

  1. When it's between a possible skin shard or any other reward options and BE through first-time S rank chests or events, the BE is not "free". Because you lose the opportunity cost of all the other rewards (often typically reserved for real money purchases) you otherwise can not earn through sheer grinding.
  2. If you withhold shards for discounts, your BE is simply not growing. Ultimately you will still disenchant most of your shards unless you're already some kind of whale which in that case you shouldn't even care what Riot has done to the IP/BE system anyway, this means the notion of discounts approaches negligibility for most players.
  3. There is no way you can defend the new champion mastery 6 and 7's cost. It's a pure nerf, and a pretty heavy one that just raises the original price by like 6 times, for no reason.
  4. The current BE system is only compared with the good o' IP when we say they're roughly equal in value, when in fact we also had a separate BE system which while limited it was still its own thing separated from IP. This means no matter how you look at it, player (grinding) resource has been devalued from the change. Now also factor in #1 and #3.
  5. It still doesn't change the fact instead of gradual earning, periodic earning feels terrible for most players.
  6. When you unlock a champ through shard, especially through the shard you get from leveling up which is the main way of earning your BE, this means instead of the discounted value you're paying for, what you're actually paying is the combined value of its labelled discount value AND and value you will get if you disenchant the shard; again, opportunity cost. This means it is NOT a "a major discount" at all. Now also factor in #2.

I'm thinking you're probably just convincing yourself to accept it, tbh.

This BE system is shit.

I hope Riot reverses this system.

TBH i'm ok with getting atleast 910 BE each level, Im just pissed about the costs of champion mastery [slayer-jinx-unamused]

I already own every champ but even then when I bought Zoe I made back everything I spent in like a week and I wasn't even playing much because of college. It's really not that bad, people just like to cry.

Thank you for this, really. It's unfortunate though that this is the boards, and ultimately 96% of the people here are looking for any excuse to curse out 'fucking bullshit rito shitfucks'. A real retrospective analysis is great :D

My friend just created an account, bought some champion (I don't remember who) and then remembered that I said they may like MF, so they went to see how much she was and it was 3150 while they only had 2770. The fact they'll probably have to level up twice before getting her is really off putting, where as technically we probably would've had to do the same before, but seeing the IP stack up slowly after each game made it seem like we were making progress towards it.

Now you see that after 10 games you still only have 2770 BE but you level up in 1 game (which means 910+ BE after the next game), while before you would play 6ish games to have 3090 IP (or more possibly) and know it's only 1 more game. With the new system, we get more BE over all, but it doesn't really show progress well.
