I want to see enemy borders again

Once upon a time, in the magical world of League of Legends, when loading into a game you would see the borders of the players on the enemy team. Then Riot came along, and in their ultimate wisdom they decided that this was a very bad idea for the player community. Riot said that showing players the borders of the enemy team would upset the snowflakes, who would quiver in fear when they saw that they were playing against others who were ranked higher than them last season.

So the borders of the enemy players were made hidden, and now instead of knowing ahead of time what we should be expecting in a match we are completely blindsided if a plat player just happens to be in a duo with his bronze friend in a normal match.

Riot, I want to see enemy borders again during the loading screen. I need to know up front if I need to be bringing my A game into a match or if it's just for the luls. I also need to have faith in your matchmaking system that very few players actually believe works fairly.

tl;dr let us see enemy borders again

"We don't want to show you champion mastery icons at the loading screen because it may tilt people. We have no problem showing you that your opponent has Mastery 7 when he kills you, regardless of if he flashes the icon, though."

The real reason Riot took the enemy borders away is so the other team didn't target one player. The idea was the enemy team is given extra information about the individual players, not the champ or in-game info that can be abused. Same thing with ping. You used to be able to see everyone's ping, but the player with the highest ping often was targeted for easy kills.

Except that you can go on LoLNexus and find that one guy with a losing streak that you can camp to death anyway?

"The enemy team is given extra information about the individual players". Honestly, I think that you can get WAY more informations on third part sites rather than on loading screen.

Riot has no control about those who use 3 party sites, but they can reduce the amount of players who would be able to see all those informations.

I think its ok, I just play. Would make no difference if I would play against high or low elo, I always give my 100% anyway

I'm actually kind of curious about this. How exactly did Riot get OP.GG to not show opponent's names in normal game history? Or did OP.GG just do that on their own to mirror league's site?

I think they changes something in their program codes, some informations in API changed after all

No OP.GG didn't just feel like doing that. Riot had an API policy change and OP.GG had to comply or they'd lose access to the API. That policy change was no names

Riot has control over 3rd party sites as shown in the past. They forced them to stop showing premade groups. They recently forced them to stop showing normal stats (and then reconsidered it, but still)

You got a point there

Why not just hide enemy summoner names until AFTER the match is over? Given that IG shoutouts are based off of champion names anyway, revealing their summoner names at the start of the match has no other use than to let people search them on 3rd Party sites.

Then I would have never known that I once played with RossBoomSocks. Well sure, after the game, but come on, that is not cool

I freely admit I've encountered some truly hilarious usernames that my proposed idea would likely have prevented me from noticing, but ultimately I feel like the toxicity reduction would be worth it.

Yes please. I can just use my Diamond icon anyway.

And then you encounter people like me, who are unranked but play as good as a plat and assume because I'm unranked that I must be a scrub...I miss those days too. xd

Before I started playing ranked I used to play with a lot of Silvers and Golds and thought I was that level. Imagine my surprise when I found myself struggling in Bronze 5 lmao. You never know your true skill until you actually dip your feet into the murky waters of ranked play. I've stomped Diamond players in normals but it doesn't mean I'm Diamond.

then why not just play ranked and hit plat then for your free rewards if you're just as good¿

Not worth the effort to me. Dealing with people that are tryharding is also less fun (they tilt harder and rage more).

I support this idea.

The problems raised by Riot about showing the borders are true, I'm not denying that. But NOT showing them creates different but equally bad problems that they conveniently ignored, and the information given by the borders can easily be accessed on 3rd-party sites for those who really cares.

When there's no good solution, I say default to transparency, and show those borders.

kaellidor2 votes

im fine with the borders being shown in ranked but not so much in normals.

Gelmous1 votes

and ping too, it used to show that as well

Vah Naboris1 votes

can you make a valid argument without over using the already over used snowflake rhetoric? it's a fucking Fight Club quote that was taken so far out of context that for whatever reason became the ONLY argument people use to think they can legitimately win a debate. if it bothers you thatmuch, look up the game before the match starts and you can see the enemy team. what does it matter if it's on the fleeting loading screen?

Cowseed3 votes

There's a ton of irony here :/

I'm replying just to let you know that you were triggered by one word in my entire post, and that your attempt to derail from the original subject is not even worth replying to. How ironic.

LXII1 votes

Yeah I never got this decision. "We don't want to 'tilt' you before the game" You know what's worse? Not knowing that your fresh out of Silver bot lane is up against a Plat Duo doing their placements.

If we know these things ahead of time (without having to go OP our entire team and their entire team) we can adjust our strategy accordingly rather than our bot just getting stomped and single handedly losing us the game.

Jabberwöcky1 votes

I personally think it shouldnt matter.

In terms of seeing the enemies boarders (in a toxic way).

Ive seen plenty of games where people look each other up and go "Hey that guy trying to get gold, lets stomp that silver down!"

then all the gold 4-5s feed and the Silver 1 player, absolutely destroys everyone cause hes the one thats trying to actually win the hardest.

Boarders dont show your skill, they show where you have GOTTEN, the past, doesnt show your current skill, as i have seen plenty of people in the lower divisions that deserve to be demoted and lose their shiny boarders.

Tfw you've no need of borders cause you already know who the trash players are in your mmr. feelsgucci man

So u can boost ur bronze ego when u see some boosted gold player's border and be like "OH, GOLD PLAYER IN THE ENEMY TEAM, I BEAT A GOLD PLAYER. IM 100% BEING HELD BY MY TEAM"

the other day sadly an enemy mid laner was silver and am plat 3. am serious. the ENEMY MID LANER was silver 3. he had a normal winrate. he was not smurfing. he had a normal MMR. for silver 3.

he was laning against a platinum 3 mid laner. he fed.

its not his fault. matchmaking is bad for some reason. how do you place a silver 3 player in a platinum game?. I mean when I was in plat 5. i get a silver 1 , 100 lp smurf every week or so. but a silver 3 non smurf. what the fuck?.

they don't want to show the bad matchmaking my friend

I Do Pew Pew Pew1 votes

Well I had a similar match, but I was silver and enemy was MASTER tier, so yeah, that was fun to me and my friend to play against master. I was premade with fresh 30 lvl friend and im silver 2, but when we go play draft pick normals, we mostly get in enemy team diamonds/plats and one time master, while my team max plat 5/golds <3

I was playing when borders were first introduced. This never happened.

You not noticing it =/= it never happening. I saw it quite frequently.

MonkeyMadness1 votes

You are questioning a guy with an eidetic memory. I recommend you stop now. I can remember quite vividly the conversation with my friend about how I was only getting matched against bronze players (ie no border) even though I was high silver. Come to find out, it was actually just because enemy borders were invisible.

...reading comprehension isn't your thing, is it? Nothing of what you just said in any way means more than "I never saw it". No one's questioning that you never saw it, just that other people did.

MonkeyMadness1 votes

But here's the thing, I have provided incontrovertible evidence that I WOULD have seen it ASSUMING THAT IT EVER EXISTED. And seeing as how I would not forget it...ya...Never happened. Literally never. But if you have proof (which you evidently do not) I'd be more than open to changing my stance (but you don't).

Festive Bear2 votes

not everyone has the luxury of having a beefy pc for overwolf and the time to go through everyone's profile on op.gg

ÂFRÏCÂN GØD1 votes

go thru everyones profile??? what r u talking about. u click live game on ur own profile, which u can bookmark on your phone or web browser on pc and you can see everyones current and previous rank and wr and champ win percentage.. it takes literally 10 seconds and 2 mouse clicks or 2 taps on your phone lmao dont sit here and make it sound like all that cant be done in loading screen. ppl do it every game with no problem gtfo. nice try tho.

Festive Bear1 votes

I agree. But only in normals, for the reason of luls or tryhard. Otherwise, always try in ranked

It would be as easy as put it in the client options as a toggle, so people that want to see them could see them and people that dont, wouldnt see them.

makes no sense that hey did this while also still giving out ranked player icons.

Isnt the point of ranked boarders to always give it your A game?

fdshadfdcfx1 votes

Does it really matter 3rd party sites like op.gg allow you to see the previous standing and current standing of players in your game, what riot really needs to implement is the ability to see your teammates ping on the in-game score board
