Kayn needs to transform faster in Rotating Game Modes

When playing Kayn in ARAM, Ascension, or most other RGMs, his champion damage meter needs to fill faster, and the cooldown on the opposite form achieved first needs to have a lower cooldown.

Kayn is severely underwhelming in game modes other than SR or TT, and that especially hurts considering that these matches tend to last much less longer. How would we play Kayn on Nexus Siege as he is right now? Just like we have quick-charge items in these modes, and Gangplank automatically gains tokens during ARAM and RMGs, Kayn needs a fine tune in order to be a good pick in these modes.

EDIT: With the discussions that have arisen in this thread, I'd like to also point out that in certain modes such as ARAM and Ascension your ability to recall is removed, making it even harder to transform in the first place. It's even more of a burden if you want to transform into the form that was placed on cooldown since the only way to return to the platform is to die, and it may not be up when you really want or need it to be.

For example, you're playing Ascension and the timer has 45 seconds left, but you just revived. Do you wait another 45 seconds and let your team 4v5 or head back into the fray not knowing when you'll be on the platform again?

Actually in ARAM and Ascension he transforms much fater due to teamfights always springing up

It's possible to go against a very poke based enemy team and therefore be unable to safely get his essence, but Ascension should be even faster than normals because of the non-stop fighting. I do think the timer before you can choose the other version should be reduced to 2 minutes though, if you get the "wrong" form you'll have to wait way longer comparatively than in other modes.

That's my thought also. I did some Acension games yesterday just to get the last Kayn mission out of the way (Blue Form, 1 win), and by the time I could choose Blue Form, 4 minutes later, the match was about 75% in.

All of it felt really underwhelming.

cant you fight a poke heavy safe comp and be screwed as kayn in SR?

Jet Sett2 votes

You're less screwed in the Rift due to the laning phase. The comp altogether may shut Kayn down, but it's not as easy if 1v1 or 1v2 situations. If he can pull a gank off (or roam if he's laning) then he'll be able to collect the essence, whereas in ARAM the enemy team is already together and working as a unit (enough at least to fend off melee champions.)

Wait are we saying the guy that can walk around the ARAM wall through the bush side can't have presence in an ARAM game vs poke?

I think he's a proud member of the gap closing squad lol

aZ3R0n5 votes

Let's think about the scenario you just described there.

Kayn uses his E to go outside of the lane in ARAM to get around to the bushes on the enemy's side, placing that ability on cooldown. So he can now use his Q and W to dive into 5 enemies with no escape.

Yeah, that'll be a great way to be an effective member of your team. /sarcasm

OyddAWqJ5r6 votes

Like he's the only one in that boat?

Hecarim? Garen? Renekton?

It's called Diving my boy. It's what teams do vs poke comps. If your team goes in with you it's 100% effective.

aZ3R0n4 votes

"It's 100% effective guaranteed way to feed the enemy team and throw a match."

Fixed that for you.

OyddAWqJ5r5 votes

I'm sorry so how exactly do non-poke champions win the game again? They just never engage right?

aZ3R0n4 votes

There's a difference between strategic engagement and diving just because you want to initiate a fight.

Many 5v5 scenarios are a game of poking and baiting until one team can catch someone out of position and engages on them. Ideally, the fight is then a 5v4 in your team's favor, and the enemy team either fights with a handicap or is forced to disengage and give up positioning.

What you described doing with Kayn is deliberately putting yourself out of position, and you're simply giving the enemy team the upper hand.

I'm sorry but you assumed that I described that. If I said Malphite can ult into the enemy would you assume I mean he is 1v5 suiciding? No silly, he is engaging with his team.

But for some reason when I say Kayne can get in perfectly fine you go "1v5? That's stupid you don't know how this game works."

Let's use a little common sense I'm obviously not advocating a 1v5 dive silly.

I really wish more people understood this. Too often I end up on a team in ARAM that gets to face a poke-comp and they want to sit back, get poked to 1/3 or 1/2 health, bitching the whole time, and finally going in to fight when they're so low on HP they can't possibly win the fight.

Most of the time, people only want to go into a fight once they believe it's risk-free and a guaranteed win. Exceptionally frustrating to be stuck on teams like that in ARAM.

LordForrest1 votes

On the flip side there are times were diving is not a good idea regardless of the team comps, but 1 or 2 people insist on diving as soon as they make it back to the team and just constantly feed the enemy team. At that people it doesn't matter if your dive comp may normally trump the poke comp because the enemy is now way stronger then you and you don't have a chance in hell winning

To clarify I am asking people to be smarter about there dives, instead of going dive comp into poke comp full steam ahead.

FantasySniper1 votes

Hecarim, Garen, Renekton, Wukong, Nautilus, Alistar, Amumu, etc. all have the survivability and/or escape potential to make it away from most comps.

Kayn can't. He doesn't have either of those things if he uses his Shadow Step to engage - with either form.

Jet Sett1 votes

You can see him coming and if he gets hit he gets pushed out after a short time because his E is shortened in combat. When I say poke I mean champions with mid-long range abilities, Kayn in that scenario cannot close distance reliably without his team, and that point you could be any champion in the game and be able to fight the enemy.

Catastrop1 votes

Not really, Laning phase exists in SR.

I agree with being able to do damage on Ascension, but it is such a fast game mode that if you want to transform into whichever form is placed on a cooldown then you may never get to do it. Especially since your ability to recall is removed and the only time you are on the summoning platform is after you revive from death.

With ARAM, I have had the fortunate pleasure of rolling Kayn on the Howling Abyss. The idea was to build him as a bruiser and then take the Rhaast transformation. It worked out beautifully, but it wasn't able to happen until very late game. The enemy team had a large amount of CC, including Veigar, and if I were simply to go charging in like Garen then I would be instantly deleted. It took a very long time to fill the meter by participating in team skirmishes when we were able to catch someone in a bad positioning, and then I had to wait for the cooldown on the Darkin form since SA was the form which was instantly unlocked. Then I had to wait until after I died since Recall is disabled in ARAM, and screw walking all the way across the map while forcing my team to 4v5.

tl;dr ARAM is a very inconvenient map to play Kayn on right now.

Acheron161 votes

Just to clarify, you can still transform in Howling Abyss after leaving the platform, you just need to go back on foot (around near the nexus) and you can transform.

SettDownShutUp4 votes

Yeah, it was brutal waiting for Raast in the couple ARAMs I've had with him. Especially considering everyone is leveling so fast/already 3 levels ahead of the timer.

ZyniX4 votes

Also Elementalist Lux needs to change forms faster in aram.

GreenBoÍ3 votes

Well My lux... Needs to get her Transformations faster in game modes T_T... Since in some you cant even reach transformations (Im looking at you nexus siege)

aram isnt an rgm

Randal da Vandal7 votes

yeah, pretty sure he knows that but it still applies to it

Fear the Kayn2 votes

Also, honestly, get rid of the gimmicky blue essence/orange essence crap. Just let players pick whichever one they want when they get enough essence overall.

inuitmailman2 votes

That wouldn't be OP at all!!!! At... alll

Zedex1 votes

but you can pick the other one anyways(after a few minutes), so it wouldn't really be that OP, lol.

PrinceSeiker2 votes

well I mean does shyvana get her passive at all? why give kayne his faster

Skorpio1 votes

In aram they made her passive based on towers, so yes.

Ahri Baka1 votes

Actually I played him in aram , I was useless , our nexus got destroyed 1 second before my passive comes

The 14th Angel1 votes

a champ i dont play. but yeah i can agree to this.

SiG DxD1 votes

what about garen with 0/30 resistances from W ? when does he get 30 /30 in rotating game mode from killing only players??

aZ3R0n1 votes

I'm sure that's something that Riot could also address but has probably been long overlooked.

PaffWasTaken1 votes

To be honest, Riot should have a whole new look on every other gamemodes, not only on Kayn. There's so many thing to be done on these, what you mentioned amongst them, but Riot just seems to ignore them

ALL MłGHT1 votes

this sort of mentality will then lead to Eve's invis circle being smaller and people's ults taking up less space due to lane constraints

Wish they were 10 bans in rotating games modes..
