An absolute must for the next wave of emotes

I'm not sure why Riot didn't do this in the first wave, but there needs to be both basic emotes like the thumbs up that we start out with and premium emotes featuring champion expressions, etc. The basic emotes would cost IP, and the higher quality content would cost RP.

For instance, things like a thumbs down, a hand signaling OK, a peace sign, maybe words like "GO!" or "YEAH!" or whatever, and other basic stuff that requires very little from the developer/artist would cost IP while emotes featuring champions and other characters cost RP. I would also like to see "Legendary" tier emotes that cost more RP and are animated, as well as exclusive emotes that have limited availability or are only available through mission rewards or by earning enough tokens during a mission cycle.

Emotes should definitely not be exclusively free, but there needs to be options for all players and this includes the ones who only want to use IP to earn content and the ones who sink lots of hard earned money into RP in order to collect as much content as they can. This way you would make a lot more of the player base happy and would have a lot less complaints.

Just my two cents, but I hope Riot listens.

Yeah would be nice to have more "basic" or "tier 1" emotes to chose from, I'm over here spamming my thumbs up like a pleb.

I'd agree, but emotes are a joke in price. Something that costed riot maybe 5$ to make, 1 hour of an artists time, and 10 minutes of a programmers to implement does not = the outrageous price of a basic pictures.

If programmed correctly, it definitely took more than 10 minutes of programmer time but for all possible emotes ever.

That means any further emote requires 0 programmer time (they must have interface for adding these, otherwise that would go against one of the programming principles), but the system as whole could've taken up to 1 hour given that majority of what they added can be copy-pasted from other sources (Mastery Emote most precisely and in-game emotes already were a thing).

If we consider the work on client in terms of interface as programming (If I recall well client pages are based on HTML5, it's been said when the new client was in BETA on-invite), then it may grow even further.

However take in consideration they barely just think of interfaces and implementation in a second and then program it, someone must've designed the system of emote-wheel, how it will be controlled and handled and then other people designed the business model. That's mostly just talking in room and we can discuss whether something like that should take weeks, but it certainly took a lot of time and people.

Then again I wouldn't be surprised If it took a week and three people for single emote If they really need to brainstorm the shit out of what they should be, then sketch like 20 versions and choose the best and then actually draw it as we see it in-game. That takes only artists and graphics (so the programmers, designers and people from business already done they job and shouldn't participate in this process), but still it may be so much that Riot actually feels like they can't handle emotes for free and that they need such ridiculous price.

But then you remember according to their "muh business model", they also need to sell icons and champions (this is why we get such weird IP refund system, because according to Reav I think they would lose money on champions purchased by BE lol) for real money frequently otherwise they'd buncrupt or what not, so it all makes sense. Tbh there is much more low-quality content that Riot released for undeserving price and people bought it so those who spoiled Riot are to blame. Riot wouldn't dare to make such stupid pricing If they didn't know people will still throw money at them. This is also the reason why we have the Lootbox Scandal.

Digital art takes more than an hour to make. Maybe if you make it perfect in the first go, but the overall process likely takes around week or so. Starting from creating the idea, to creation, to iterations based on multiple levels of feedback.

I'm not defending their pricing, just pointing out an area you are completely wrong in.

especially considering that they require almost no maintenance or effort beyond the initial production.

Id love a a set of legendary tier emotes to be rewards for champion mastery, with each emote being related to champions personalitys.

Im gonna guess the reasoning being if people had more basic emotes they wouldnt want to buy the champion ones. Which IMO wouldnt happen because if that was the case they would be more willing to stick with just the thumbs up

No thanks. I like being able to show off that I'm not too poor to throw away money on pixel arrangements.

Thumbs up emote can be used to say good job or ok. I think lacking a thumbs down one is an oversight if they want these emotes to be used for quick visual communication.

how do i completely disable emotes ? instead of doing it everytime i get into a game ?
