Do we need another 20% cdr ap item?

Lately, I've been running on simply because I want max cdr on 2 items. I don't want to buy because I want the magic pen from . I don't want to buy because then I'm getting 2 low ap items simply because I want max cdr. It also takes longer to build. And I don't want to use my runes for CDR because I want it for magic pen.

The point I'm making is that, for a mage who wants max CDR quickly, your options are very limited and force you to lose damage.

Alternatively, AD champs have which provide decent damage while offering 20% cdr each.

Why is it there are only 2 20% cdr ap items when most mages can't really use ?

I'm not asking for a high cdr/ap item.... a new 80ap 20% cdr for all mages would be good.

Why don't you just take Scaling CDR in runes?

9 Glyphs and 1 Quints provide 20%, so Morellonomicon is sufficient to cap your CDR.
6 Glyphs provides 10% CDR, so Morellonomicon and any 10% CDR item are sufficient to cap your CDR.

That seems like it would solve your issues nicely.

Solutions exist, but the OP doesn't want to use them.

If they prefer taking the additional damage (in Glyphs and Boots) rather than CDR, then they can't really complain about not having enough CDR available to them.

There is already a bunch of CDR in the game, if anything, it needs to be toned down.

AD champs aren't getting both item 3078 and item 3071 . By this logic, get item 3165 and item 3174 _ >___>

Even without the passives, the item is still 112% effective (though some of that is mana).

Champs that have either as a great option tend to be good with one and not give a damn about the other.

Getting the other one is pretty much a handicap.

Morellonomicon is already a very good item. Most people use scaling cdr blues on mages and you'll make 40 late game if you buy any defensive item with cdr.

If anything mages may need a new raw damage ap item for late game.

I think it's fine. Why would you bother getting magic pen on Xerath anyway? Pen is for champions who hit often, like cass or ryze.

Also, why would you get Nashors on Xerath lol!

Mathematically, penetration is generally superior to ap when trying to increase your damage.

I agree, it's not fun that every game you have to go for Morel. There is absolutely no reason why AP mages/support shouldn't go for Morel. We need more diversity.

i kind of agree, i find it hard to pick a build for long range ap champions like lux or xerath. abyssal is a very close range item so it's not that useful on them, hourglass is good but it's only 10%.
