Should I buy Volibear or Jarvan IV?

Just hit 4800 ip and I don't know who to buy. I've tried both a while ago, though volibear was years ago. I'm looking for a strong tanky top/jungle champ that can be a big presence in teamfights to play in rank. I really want to climb :/

I'm also open to other suggestions as I like mages and fighters too, don't play much marksmen or support but I have a hand full of champs from each of those roles I do well with.

If you want to climb, play the fotm OP champions. Voli can be fun, but his kit is limited. J4 is more flexible in the available builds.

Between the two, Volibear has a better winrate in the jungle, and IMO also functions better in top lane. This is because the bear has significantly easier mechanics. However, a good Jarvan can have a much better time in teamfights, because Voli's damage late game is not as easy to use and apply; however, this is not such a big difference in low ELO.

I personally like Jarvan more, but Voli will probably give you an easier time to carry because his abilities leave you a greater margin for error.

I agree, although Jarvan is not nearly as flexible as he used to be. Voli's kit is indeed limited, but its simplicity out values Jarvan's.

I agree, the fact his kit is so simple and that I can't really waste anything is very enticing. Yet voli is seeing a lot of play in low elos, ppl are smartening up and spamming him there whereas I see no j4's in my games. I was considering J4 because I've played a few games with him a while ago on champ rotate and really enjoyed it, also he is getting some big buffs and so far the only buff the undid was the mana cost reduc's on Q.

Also what do you think about shyvanna?

You're not seeing many Jarvans because he's not in an ideal spot, balance-wise; he'll be getting buffs soon though.

Shyvana is a cool champion, and can be really fun. What you do with her is farm, farm, farm, and farm; a farmed shyvana is a monster late game. The only problem is you will have very little, if any, gank pressure, and her kit has no CC in it so she's kited really easily (most people get BotrK and/or Blue Smite to get some kind of slow). She's really good at counter jungling (taking the enemy jungler's camps when they aren't there), and is a great choice if the enemy team picks a lot of AD casters (Shyvana eventually gets so tanky they can't do anything about it).

She has a simple kit, but can be hard to play effectively. I'd say if she looks cool to you, give her a try :)

Shyvana does not need mana, which is a huge plus. Building Titanic Hydra on her is fantastic. Her early clears are somewhat harder than Jarvan's but her ganks scare the crap out of opponents. She is very strong in the right hands, and is pretty simple to play.

voli is easy and outtank/outdamage j4. j4 is only good when the team is wlorking together

Voli is stronger right now. I personally play and like J4, but it can be tough to win with him right now. Both are fine, but i'd get Voli and see how you like him.

I'd say always go for the one that seems the most cool to you :) They're both good and you'll have success with them both!

J4 is definitely a good choice; no doubt about it

Depends, Jarvan just got buffs, but current stats and such say Volibear.

Depends on your play style. Assuming you are not a god at the game I will suggest Volibear. Volibear can play every position except adc.
