Why do melee projectiles and autoattacks lose inertia on death but not ranged attacks?

ME swinging a 2 ton lance over my head or buster sword suddenly loses all intertia and is completely harmless.

But when ranged bullets fly through the air it's just fine?

This is more than just a cosmetic issue. You know how many times I died mid leap of jarvan ult or mid tryndamere auto attack but ranged champion projectiles and auto attacks go through after death? How is this fair?

Because melee attacks apply there damage as soon as the animation is finished, which tends to be mostly instant.

Ranged attacks tend to have projectile time, which means if the ranged died before they fired it, no shot would be fired.
