I don't see how tower plating is doing me any favors

for reference I don't play that many strong laners and a good chunk of my roster is vulnerable to harder counterpicks if I go first Garen Volibear Nasus etc etc. I'm aware that makes this partially my fault for not playing Riot's golden boys.

how does tower plating help me at all? On top of usually having to give up CS because I'm basically guaranteed right now to have to deal with some shitty ranged top matchup or an Aatrox, if the enemy jungler has any wits about he'll stick around to make sure I can't extend past tower range. So then even if I sit by tower they slowly chip away at it - if I'm sent back to base then they'll snowball indirectly off of me because I can't defend tower at all then.

all I've noticed it doing in my games is setting me further behind when I do get set behind. It seems to get to a point where I should not even try to go for kills when I see the opportunity; because while they haven't gotten quite enough farm gold to earn a bounty, me killing them twice definitely makes me a target while still keeping me behind in CS. The gold difference between a winning and losing lane is staggering right now, and I've noticed it from the winning side too. Denying CS hard and permashoving to get lots of plating gold -- you can easily end up an item and a half over someone without ever even killing them.

Tower plating doesn't even feel particularly harder to take right now, especially if you run Demolish (which every single fighter will, rest assured) you can easily chew through at least the first 2 plates without many items as long as you proc Demolish, and you can get through the rest after your first item or with the assistance of your jungler.

I don't think I've had a game where tower plating has helped me recover from a rougher lane. Sure, laning phase is longer, but with the amount of gold a winning lane(s) get my games usually don't last long after the first towers start going down.

You answered yourself, the champs you play just aren’t capable of performing well without applying more effort than the likes of an Aatrox. Either play every game as an uphill battle or pickup something that has an easier time.
