Why do abilities with on-hit ignore the basic rule of spellblade?

Spellbalde items: item 3057 item 3100 item 3078 item 3025

Spellblade causes your NEXT basic attack to deal bonus damage AFTER using an ability (1.5 second cooldown). Wiki

Next basic attack. After using an ability.

No where does it even hint to on-hit abilities counting as the "next" basic attack. This passive clearly requires an ability to activate and then 1 basic attack to proc it. So why do some abilities ignore this? It is a basic attack on-hit, not an ability on hit.

So... You want Irelia, Ezreal and Nasus Q to not apply Spellblade procs as well?

Nasus Q wouldn't change since it's an autoattack anyway.

Using the ability provides a spellblade proc.

When the ability hits, it consumes the spellblade proc it generated.

Ah alright. I guess that works for a reason.

What ability are you complaining about; I don't understand the issue.

yasuo Q.

The ability is that when you press Q, your character deals damage in a short line, and applies on hit damage to the first target as if you were using a regular basic attack. It's in the description; it's an ability that will apply on hit effects like a basic attack.

Ik. I was just telling you what ability he is complaining about. i agree. there is no contradiction, only a misunderstanding of reality on the part of OP

The sheen proc of "spellbalde" is in itself an oh-hit effect. I'll use gangplank as an example.

He clicks his Q on an enemy.

  1. He activated Q, so he used an ability.
  2. His Q hits an enemy and applies all on-hit effects to said enemy.
  3. Since the on-hits were applied AFTER he used the ability, Spellblade is applied to the enemy.

Same goes for Ezreal Q, Irelia Q, Fizz Q, they are all treated as basic attacks as far as applying on-hit effects go.

Spellblade adds an on-hit effect that's consumed after one use. Abilities that apply on-hit effects will apply it immediately.
