So, a question about climbing.

So, since I'm obviously not going to climb using the champs I enjoy, which champs are free wins?

I know Jax is utterly broken, and I've played a couple games with him (and won both), but what others are there? I want to hit gold this season (I was literally one win from gold last season, then lost until S5), but I'm often stuck with teammates who can't play the game to save their lives -- so I need champions who can carry a game even if the enemy team is all fed.

You can climb with anything if you actually master it. Do not drop what you enjoy just because someone says it's bad.

Agreed. There's no "free win" champs right now. You're better off in the long run to take a couple of champs (3 or so) and become highly proficient with them. Learn how to play bad lane matchups, who counters you, who you counter, etc.

Well, I'd argue against that. I can play GP or Tahm Kench, both of whom I have ~200-300k mastery on, and I'd have a hard time unless I get fed. Playing Jax, I have less than 10 games on him (tried him a long time ago but didn't like him, when I was just getting started). Played two games with him in ranked, and won both with a 5:1 KDA in one and a 9:1 in the other. Never play him, but I can still do very well and carry bad teammates (as I often get).

So, no, that's just not true. There are champs in this game that are far stronger than others (and often much easier) by virtue of this game being F2P.

Doing good in two games does not mean much. You aren't going to climb the Ranked ladder in two games, and as you play your average is probably not going to look like that at all.

Agreed.

Also, Tahm and GP are much harder to master compared to Jax, who is a bit straight-forward skill wise.

Two ranked games. I've played many games in norms (and my norms MMR is high gold / low plat), and just stomp every game.

And, as other people are saying, a champ who does nothing but click on people is a hell of a lot easier than someone who has a more complex kit, like GP. So, even if I can play GP really well, I can play some braindead champ a lot better, with a lot less effort.

Even if it's not as much fun, it's a lot more effective, and I can make up for the mistakes of bad teammates.

Low skill ceiling champions tend to perform better at the lowest elo's specifically because they are unable to reach higher ceilings. Just because you haven't yet reached that point on (mastered) a champion you really want to play doesn't mean you can't. Focus all your energy on what you want to master, or just play what's easiest; just don't hop around playing new things in Ranked every day hoping it works if you want to climb.

^ Mastering any random champ and one tricking it had been the most successful method of climbing for 6 straight seasons. I pick a new champ to try this with each season and am pretty good at getting to diamond in about 3 weeks, 150-200 games at this point every time I do it.

Also, if you can't do this with GP then it's definitely your personal skills that are lacking. Try watching some neacey vids.

Well, after he's been nerfed countless times, his laning phase is abysmal. If he doesn't make it to mid-late game, he doesn't do a whole lot. And, when your team feeds their asses off 9/10 games, you don't often reach late game. So, yeah, GP doesn't do much in silver. Sure, if I go against someone bad and get fed I can carry hardcore, but even then I don't always get lucky -- some people in silver now how to actually play safe.

He's got a very strong laning phase and the nerf did next to nothing new to him. There has to be some or several fundamental mistakes you are making both in lane phase and in mid and late game. You might try figuring out what these are, particularly since the mid and late game mistakes are likely to be strategic in nature as opposed to tactical and will be mistakes you make regardless of what champ you play.

Game knowledge, team organization, and communication are the most important skills in the game for reaching high level play and these are probably the areas in which you are most lacking. Correcting those mistakes could easily bump you up several tiers in ranking. Not divisions. Tiers. Start correcting those mistakes and you're liable to have a lot more success.

Before he gets a Triforce (or at least a Sheen and some AD), his laning phase is very weak, outside of cheesy level 1-2 kills with his passive. Anyone who knows how to play around his barrels can make his life miserable, and even more so if they have hard CC and bait his oranges. Many champions are stronger than him early game, and if you shut him down hardcore, he never scales into late game unless you make a massive misplay and feed him some gold.

And, you know, all those little bits of gameplay involve more than just me. In low silver, you can't really rely on your teammates most of the time, and they couldn't even tell you what something like "team organization" would mean. 8/10 games, I'm doing fine, doing my job, but every other lane is losing massively and feeding their asses off, even if I intervene. So, sure, maybe higher up team play is more important... but in silver, there is no team to rely on.

So you make a thread asking for advice. Then, when you get the advice from much superior players, one being a high diamond player who you insulted and were rude to just the other day(and despite this I was kind enough to still try and assist you) you don't want to accept the advice but would rather argue that nothing you do is wrong. Why make a thread if you are just going to ignore the advice given to you and proclaim you have no faults?

It's no wonder the high Elo community dislike bothering with low level players. This is a prime example of why. All low Elos want to do is have some agree with them that it's not their fault they are bad at the game. Got some news for ya mate, it is your fault. Stop arguing, start listening, git Gud.

Truth is, with the way you act, you'll never improve, you're hopeless. You gotta fix that attitude first, it's the primary problem. Enjoy being a low Elo player for a lot longer mate, toodles.

Yeah, except I see the same mistakes in diamond and LC$ games that I see in bronze and silver. And I can take on challenger players using their main and go 15/2 in lane, and I can take on my diamond friends with relative ease. No. You are not "highly superior" -- you just got lucky enough to get up to diamond, and exploit what Riot is too greedy to fix. Go climb from bronze to diamond playing a champ that requires some kind of brainpower if you're so good. And, why not post on your "highly superior" account?

The high ELO community doesn't like the low ELO because they don't want to admit they're not infallible. They get proven wrong, or they can't answer a question, and they freak out about it.

No, my problem is that I insist on playing champions that require some amount of skill to play well. I come from a generation where you worked for what you get, and playing some braindead champ like Yi, Xin, Jax, LB, Kat or any ADC feels like cheating to me -- so I don't. But, I'm ready to just give up and play the boring champs and climb even though I don't deserve it.

I don't know a thing about Gangplank and I'm not interested in having that champion as my main. But I can understand your frustration, because I was there some months ago. And yes, I played lots of normals, but ranked is in another level, because in normals, people are there to practice, and in ranked, people are there to show their real skills (or that's what they're suppose to do xD).

I had to stop playing my main (Thresh) for the moment, but guess what: I had other support champions I liked.

So, I started using Friendly-Support champions for the elo I'm in. Supports with shields, heals and buffs. And like I said, I told my team to not worry because I'll protect them. Sure, I have to improve, but I'm playing ranked with the champions I'm solid with, and I like. And I'll leave Thresh for when I feel is time to unsleash the Kraken (Gold 5 I guess).

For example: Jinx is my best adc. But if I play ranked in a lane I'm not good as, my reflexes, my patience will not be the same as if I play ranked in my best 2 roles. And my frustration will just grow higher. (True Story btw).

Anyway... What's your Top Lane Champion Pool? Besides Gangplank. Do you have any champions low-elo friendly? I think Mundo is low-elo friendly. Nasus too. But if you don't play Nasus or Mundo, and you get bored with them, then don't play them. You'll just tilt yourself when you're behind. That's what happened with me using Blitz.

In the meantime, keep improving with GP. I don't know how much skill do you need to be a good GP, but from time to time I'll keep an eye in my Threshie.

UsiTsukino2 votes

You know... People told me "Play Blitz to climb" when I asked the same question you were asking here.

I tried Blitz in normals, but I didn't felt happy playing him. I know a good grab can make a really difference, but I didn't wanted to start mastering a champion when I've already wasted time learning other champions and I was solid with those.

So, I kept trying with the ones I've already knew... ...and I've practiced a new one I felt comfortable with (because I noticed people don't play tanks, everyone wants to kill-kill-kill-do damage-kill).

I've improved my champion pool adding that champion, and I got better with the ones I've had (I've asked for coaching to improve what I was doing bad too).

So from Silver 4 I went up to Silver 1 with the champions I knew how to play. I just gave my team nice messages giving them hopes about "We're doing good guys, but we need objectives now." Or "Don't worry, top / mid laner, I'll shield you next team fight :D" Or... "Help me ward, because enemy is recking my wards TwT" Or... "I'll peel for you adc :D Guys I need you to help me peel my adc because enemy is killing him."

So I think is all about the champs I love + having a good attitude + efforts (I've been out of some ranked with my mind destroyed xD so I take a break after those games.)

There is no "Easy Win" champion that will carry the game for you. It all depends on your playstyle and who you enjoy playing.

Sure, some champions are meant to be carries (Think Yi, most ADCs, etc), but if you don't understand anything about them, their lane, or their matchups, then you won't do any better or automatically be good just because they're "broken" or "OP".

Just pick a pool of 2-4 champions and stick with those. Play what fits your style best whether you're more of a tank, offensive, or supportive player. And play who you want to play as well. Don't force yourself to play something you hate or a position you don't feel comfortable in.

Also, teamwork and communication helps win games. You can have the best KDA all game, but unless you work with your team you won't win. It's a team game anyways, so keep that in mind when practicing and playing in the future.

Hope that helps.

Play 2 champions. Play 2 roles. Don't argue with teammates. You will climb from playing.
