Remind me why I play this shitty cash grab?

As much fun as it is to have LITERALLY every champion I enjoy made irrelevant by some braindead clicker... remind me why I play this shitty cash grab?

Riot obviously doesn't give a damn outside of income potential, so I can't say the company is any good.

Balance is absolutely not a thing, since it's entirely determined by who makes the most money by being strong.

Quality isn't a thing, since proper programming and a client that works and modernized champions / visuals costs money, and will never happen.

Story isn't a thing, since that would cost money to make.

... Remind me what redeeming qualities this shitty cash grab has? The only thing I can think of is that the music is phenomenal. Outside of that... I really can't think of anything. But, as much as I hate this fucking game and fucking Beck (who needs his head forcibly removed from his ass)... it beats staring at a wall all day.

LoL is completely free (I may have burned a few hundred on it but I chose to, and will continue to do so as long as they are releasing more Taric skins)

They have done multiple massive lore events that earned them no money.

There is a new client being worked on currently and they are constantly rebuilding old code, they just don't tell us super often because it isn't that important to 99% of players. Evidence

They just reworked a champion for the 3rd/4th freaking time so they clearly care about champ quality and they have 2 1/2 full development teams whos only job is to make dated champs great again.

Also LoL isn't really a game that can be balanced, it might seem balanced, until people start to discover ways of combining champs and items that no one uses and succeeding because it is a strong combo (ex. Black Cleaver MF.)

Not going to go into a whole discussion about F2P, but even though the base game is free, nearly zero developer attention actually goes into it. That's just how an F2P game works.

They have done multiple massive lore events that earned them no money.

All these events are used to hype up a skin or new champion, which spikes RP sales. They do not create lore for its own sake.

It doesn't take 8 years to reprogram a client in a game as small as League.

They just reworked a champion for the 3rd/4th freaking time so they clearly care about champ quality and they have 2 1/2 full development teams whos only job is to make dated champs great again.

Again, it doesn't take years to update a champion in a game as small as League. In an MMO like WoW, which has FAR, FAR, FAR, FAR, FAR more interactions, models, textures, VO's, etc... it takes a fraction of the time. This is because any development on any free content is a skeleton crew, so as to cost the least money for Tencent.

Also LoL isn't really a game that can be balanced, it might seem balanced, until people start to discover ways of combining champs and items that no one uses and succeeding because it is a strong combo (ex. Black Cleaver MF.)

Perfect balance is a form of imbalance. Right now though, this game is absolutely geared towards whales. The easy, flashy champs are the strongest hands down, while more unique, complex champs just don't stand a chance. Auto attacks and targeted abilities are by and large the highest forms of damage in the game. You are punished for playing a whale-unfriendly champ, but rewarded for playing someone so pathetically easy to the point that they put you to sleep.

Saying they had 8 years to work on a new client implies that they should have began work at day 1. Only as the game has grown in the last year or 2 has a new client really become necessary. Also keep in mind that the entire LoL system is built on crappy code. It is really hard to fix code that started broken so it only makes sense that it takes a lot more time to get new things working with it.

Most large scale games were built from the ground up professionally, LoL started way too small for that. Also before you get into any arguments with me about LoL code keep in mind that I have been coding games for over 2 years and attend a college to get a degree in game programming. I will never even apply to work for Riot simply because just imagining the headache Riot programmers have to deal with trying to work with the original code gives me a headache.

Building up that much lore for a single champion is incredibly cost inefficient. Considering most new champs are bought with ip and all the content has to be localized for each region it is a terrible money making strategy. It is done to keep people interested in the game. Which yes, means that they keep spending money which Riot likes, but also makes the fans happy and want to give Riot money. It is a win win situation.

In fact anything Riot does to earn money only works if it makes the fans happy. Since you don't have to pay Riot to participate in anything except tickets for msi which are different since that is separate from the game Riot only gets money if they put out stuff that people are interested in. Do you complain that Nintendo charges money for their game systems? No, because you traded money for something and considered it a fair deal. In the same way people only spend money on LoL if (at the time at least) they consider it to be #worth. So yes, content is released to make money, but it only works if it makes people happy enough that they are willing to spend money on it. In other words it Riot releasing content is a win win situation for all.

As for free to play yes it is. It isn't pay to win either. I have only had a lv 30 account since the beginning of season 5 and I have 4 rune pages filled with runes. All of it bought with ip. Other than a few misc. Skins which are often being fixed to match the base champ skins provide no benefit to the owner. Paying for LoL provides no benefit other than unlocking content sooner and showing your willingness to donate in exchange for cosmetics. It does not boost your win rate or give you buffs you didn't have before. There is no barrier in LoL that can only be passed by paying. LoL is both free to play and not pay to win.

Finally that part on balance. You understand that adc is the most mechanically complex role correct? There are plenty of non flashy champs that are strong too. Look at Swain. He is incredibly strong and about as flashy as Galio. Less actually since at least Galio cam make flash ult plays. Also as much as it hurts to admit it, those flashy champs like Zed, Yasuo, and Vayne do actually take skill to play well. Vayne is generally considered to be the most mechanically difficult adc along with Kalista and the difference between a good Zed/Yasuo player is incredibly different from an average one.

In any case this post is starting to lag as I type it and it is 5 am so ima end this here and let you reply. G'night.

Multiple times across this wall of text I scrolled up to upvote it, only to see I already did it.

I read your comment, then I too scrolled across my wall of text multiple times to see what I wrote 3 1/2 hours ago.

I have a tendency to ramble. ;P

Well, I'd sugest you to keep rambling like that then.

RP purchasing was done by your own will, not Riot, so stop blaming them being thieves.

because youre a weak willed gaming addict who was born and will die chewing cud and getting milked.

Or maybe you just like the game and are too shy to admit it...

Well, gaming is a hell of a lot better than living in the reality I was born into. So...

But no, I absolutely hate this game. It's boring, repetitive, terrible quality, the company in charge is a greedy group of assholes, there is no balance, the pandering to morons is unreal (AA spam highest damage), and it's just not complex at all. I played WoW for over 10 years, and loved it, then GC left and the new guy simplified the game so much that it just wasn't fun anymore. I hopped around for 3 years, and couldn't find anything. League was never fun, but the competitive nature is addicting -- and, like I said, playing a game I hate is better than staring at a wall (and before you say it, no, there is nothing else to do. I have no friends, my family hates me, I live in the middle of nowhere, and there's just nothing to do.).

And honestly, I just want to find Beck and punch him square in the nose. Him and every F2P CEO.

lol.. I wonder if ghostcrawler coming to league had anything to do with you becoming addicted.

What makes you think theyre greedy by the way? Is that your addiction talking? I'm not losing any money lol

Niyumi1 votes

I didn't know he even went to Riot until a month ago (I started last July).

Just the fact that they're F2P shows how greedy they are, for one. I've typed mountains of papers on the subject though, and don't really care to retype them all. Look through my post history, and you can find it all.

"Just the fact that they're F2P shows how greedy they are"

Is this trolling, stupidity or just someone who didn't played League at all and comments based solely on what he read on the boards?

Please, enlighten me on how they being F2P is a sign of greed. While answering, please consider the fact that you can't buy a single in game boost with real money.

Play Clicker Heroes. Then instead of staring at a wall, you can stare at incrementally rising numbers instead!

Nobody makes you play. If you dont like it, uninstall. Your attitude wont be missed.

Stop whining and just uninstall. You clearly just play because you have no life and therefore nothing better to do, I don't know why you're asking people when the answer is obvious.

Honestly, I can't think of much.

I started in season 3, where there was lore, featured modes for two weeks, and a thriving amount of champions with a lot less patches and a lot more focus on, oh I don't know, doing well?

Fast forward a few years and if it isn't based on professional play, nobody cares. You like playing a champ the pros do not use? Too bad, they get nerfed. Play an OP champ that the pros enjoy? Expect more buffs or very slight nerfs. Your champ hits over 50% winrate? Guess what, they're headed to NERF CITY! However, if you lose enough, the champ will get a buff that may end up being nerfed over three patches (Gangplank) or more and render them near useless with an under 1% ban rate since nobody's afraid of being matched against them.

I'm a fan of "less is more" - the more things you nerf/buff/tweak in a patch the worse it ends up being because of all the changes. I think in season 3 we had around 14 patches and already we've hit that in July instead of December. Nonetheless, every couple of weeks it is more nerfs, more buffs, then the items are changed which directly effect the nerfs and buffs, sometimes very badly.

Today most of my friends from three years ago quit, I run into occasional season 1/2 players who tell me the game is so awful compared to their time, and mana is basically treated like a dirty word as Riot goes out of their way to stop people from being able to use anything but the most resourceless champions. Yasuo and Xin get to run wild destroying everything while mana-based champions requiring more than one iota of skill end up fighting harder and harder just to break even. Ever fought Xin one on one since his W was changed a few months back? He can kill you in 3 or 4 hits from level 6!

I'm hoping to get a new graphics card so I can play Overwatch, which I was intending to leave League for in May. I still like League to an extent, but at the same time I'm seeing the game just absolutely turn into a toxic cesspool of unbalanced champions running roughshod over far weaker ones and as long as the pros like it, Riot keeps doing it. Wasn't this supposed to be a game for fun? I dread every patch note release since I'm sure its going to be the same people getting hammered with nerfs with the same problem champions being left totally alone, or far worse, given even worse buffs.

TequilaZombie1 votes

Season 2 player here: The game was shittier in some aspects, better in others. We had more diversity, but also had extremely broken stuff. League is going through a massive change right now. It will be chaos for the entire season 6 and maybe half of Season 7 until the changes are done. After that, it'll all be back to normal.

dabomb1331

Im sorry, can we stop this gay little debate and just fucking say

we like lol, balance may be a little of the hooks, but it is still a fun game. we choose to have spent $$$ on the game, but that is our choice. And one day this game will get old (like WOW) and maybe people havent put enough coding into it, but it is still fun to play.

so if you dont like the game and think its a 'cash grab' why are you whining about it on the boards? do you think you will make something happen? so honestly just shut the fuck up, and if you dont like the game keep it to yourself, sound good? now go back to Dota you piece of shit,
