I don't think I've ever carried harder in my LIFE than how hard I just carried as Sona Support. Like, team has absolutely no idea how much extra damage/defense/utility I was pumping out, made the match like an 8v5.

If the support knows what they are doing, they can definitely carry games through roams, utility, picks and peel.
Linna Excel1 votesIt's harder partly because you can't rely on as many items or have as many levels as your teammates. The other thing I can say about it is certain styles of supports carry better or differently than others. Carrying as a Soraka is completely different than carrying as a blitz. Blitz can get a pick and win you a fight directly. You pull a prime target, you teammates blow it up right away. Soraka keeps your teammates alive but her contribution to a fight is completely different. You also have to play with a huge crosshair on your back, no mobility, and teammates who may or may not peel for you. Blitz on the other hand wants to run up and hit a rocket grope.

Supports can totally win games through the utility they bring. However, a support will never have the carry potential of say, a Vayne who is playing just as well.
This is because Vayne brings damage that supports do not as well as better objective taking.
Supports, while lacking the ability to carry w/o much team support (in comparison to other roles) can win games because supports offer more power when working with other champs than other roles do. Except maybe in the case of a few jglers.
