I could EASILY carry in Plat but cannot carry in silver

Kovah··51 votes·27,344 views

First off I just want to start by saying I DO NOT PLAY STEAMROLL CHAMPIONS (for the most part). I don't play the akali/kats etc. Lately its been udyr/sion/viktor, things like that. I never had a problem in plat, always able to carry my team even if all 4 were not doing well. I cannot do this in silver. was 8-2 as Udyr last game at the end of lane phase. I had fantastic map presence but it did not matter, all 4 teamates fed, top malphite ended lane with 10 kill somehow, and I proceeded to get gangbanged at every teamfight because I was the only threat. NOTHING I could do at that point. I even tried to split push but they were able to easily 3v4 my team and come 2v1 me. There are a lot of bad silver players who deserve to be where they are, not denying this, but for the people struggling to get out, I completely understand the frustration.

Not only is the skill a factor, but the attitude of people down here is atrocious. I find it so hard to keep steam from bursting through my eye sockets because of the things people say. One person will say something, and then EVERYONE is screaming at everyone else, and they no longer play but just focus on typing to each other.

Could I play a champion that is designed to stomp people in lower elo? like Kat, well yea sure... but it is frustrating and a little boring to have to play certain champions to hard carry. Basically, I am not saying im stuck and cant get out, but any standard good play will not carry you out of this. You either have to stick to your guns and play 30+ games with a pub stomper, or get extremely lucky. I feel extremely bad for the people who are having a hard time getting out.

Edit : So my first game of the day today, I decided to play nasus. I won my lane even though I was against Lissandra (a hard counter for nasus) and proceeded to help team with every dragon, and still did not lose my tower by the end of the game. Our corki got pulled by enemy blitz 3 teamfights in a row. We had a morg mid and needless to say in a 4v5 with no adc and a morg mid we had no damage. I could tank 3-4 of them for 15 seconds or so but, it didn't matter. Corki spams "I CANT DO ANYTHING, YOU GUYS HAVE NO IDEA, I GET PULLED BY BLITZ AND JUST DIE EVERY TIME, OR I GET ULTED BY WUKONG". I tried to tell him to stay in the back so he doesn't get pulled and wukong wont be able to reach him. Well it didn't matter, he got pulled at baron, they stole baron then aced us. My hands were tied, couldnt give advice, and couldn't carry any more. I had the most damage dealt AND taken on the team. My point is, unless you are playing certain roles/champions, the game is uncarryable. Why should I not be allowed to play Nasus top? Sure, I can, but I just lose with nothing I can do to stop it. My team would have capitalized on how tanky I was and how I was zoning their backline every fight. These players refuse to adapt to thegame and listen to advice.

I realized the adaptability is a huge part of what makes players good. In higher elo, if one strategy/style of play did not work in a teamfight, they will change tactics until something works. In silver elo, the players will NOT change. They will do the same thing, every single fight. I guess that is just something you have or you don't have, being able to adapt that is.

You actually do carry quite well on a lot of champs. You have good scores on Sion, Xin, Yi, Hec, Skarner, Riven, and Renekton. You tend to lose out when playing ranged+Udyr and Diana. For ranged, you basically die too much. Part of that may be lack of supporting teammates, but even so, your death count copmared to kills+assists is a tad high for ranged champions. Might have more success carrying if you worry a tad more about keeping your self alive.

Udyr you tend to do really well early(sometime insanely well) and then contributing nothing for the rest of the match. Take a look at the match you mention in the OP. You start out 8-2, rush Warrior>Trinity, and do the least damage(to champs) and had the lowest kill participation in the entire game.

{quoted}

You know that is another thing I forgot to mention. People will NOT LISTEN to you. Advice, calls, builds etc. it doesn't matter. You are a noob and they are a god. I have had so many people tell me to "shut the fuck up" when I simply gave them a piece of advice.

As far as that goes:

  1. Frozen Mallet is really gimping your Udyr. The only defensive stat it gives is HP, which is the worst defensive stat for Udyr. (Aside from "enough HP to not insta-die") And you get it after Warrior+Trinity, you do not need the small damage it offers. So your basically getting the slow, which again, with Trinity, you kinda don't need.

  2. AP Varus is fun, and you get decent-good scores. But you really do gimp your team with the pick in a lot of cases. Your damage is almost entirely absorbed by the opposing team's frontline. Look through your AP Varus games, even when you crush your lane opponent, they end up doing either competative damage, or more damage than you.

  3. Your warding is bad. Really really bad. Ward-score tends to be a bit biased towards people who play support (or Lee) a lot, but even so, your rank in the bottem 3% of all players for warding. Your Udyr game you placed literally zero wards. You have a Nasus game where you sat on a yellow trinket for 40 minutes and placed 2 wards total.

On that note: split-pushing, especially when you are fed, is so much more effective when you have ward coverage. Your team can't do anything but sit at tower if they learn there are 3 people going after you only when you are dying.

I hate playing as pubstomper champions. They're boring. And it's actually really counterintuitive that to gain ranks you have to basically carry your team. You could be a godly support player, or even a great jungler, and not be able to carry your team to victory. Should ranked really reward ADC/assassin mains rather than support/jungler mains?

Should ranked really reward ADC/assassin mains rather than support/jungler mains?

No.

The point of league its supposed to be:

"Play the champion you like the most, rank up in Solo Q having fun with that champion you selected, while you fight on the justice ladder for chubby rewards. Make friends and enjoy yourself, but not at other players expenses".

Moral of the story: Some roles may (keyword) look more rewarding, however, it feels (another keyword) this way due to the difference between reach role along the ladder climbing path (see Bronze tier, Silver tier, etc.) of each role specific performance. I am not taking into account balancing nor meta.

Need an example or comparison more than a few words?

Ok.

Lets say you are playing Battlefield, and you select Sniper Class:

-Your role does not consist in a front line engage type. You support from afar. Sometimes, your teammates will not even notice your help. -You may not rank as fast as the Medic Class. -You may not secure bonus objectives that require physical presence. -You may not gain the same rewarding medals as the other roles/classes. -Your ranking may be lower. Your ranking can also may be higher. How can this be? it depends. On what? that's the question: "How much do you expect to play per day?" "What kind of rewards do you expect per role played?" "Etc." -Balance in this kind of game its already set by the joyful experience of each class. Strange but true.

Side notes:

-No, this do not seem to apply on League of Legends. Why? -Cause the rewards are stated differently. -Yes, balance team still does not realize this kind of matter. -Still, fun to see when they will tho.

Hope to have clarified your concerns. Good luck!

This is a goldmine of a comment because it's so true and could easily be an entirely different discussion. But to answer your question, no ranked shouldn't reward ADCs/assassins more than supports or junglers, and in fact it actually doesn't do this by default.

But solo queue does.

It's not the fact that it's ranked, it's the fact that it's solo queue where if you want to succeed you're basically forced to play the game the wrong way, i.e. playing pubstomping champs and "carrying" your way out of low ELO, teamwork be damned.

Let me repeat that. Relying on one person to carry, or worse, trying to be that one person who carries, is the wrong way to play the game. The problem though is that it works enough of the time to still earn people the rewards they're after, which is why it will always happen.

In reality teamwork is necessary to win, but solo queue is bizzaro-world where teammates are often more to blame for a loss than the enemy is, because the game is being viewed from entirely the wrong perspective. If you zoom out a little bit and realize that probably 3 or 4 people on a 5 man team are viewing the game from the same "I have to be the one to carry us" perspective, it suddenly becomes true that your own team is more responsible for a loss than the enemy team is for a win, because everyone wants to be the lone hero and nobody wants to help anyone else. Even though these same people who make teamwork impossible are the first to blame any and everyone else for not participating in teamwork.

Tons of games are essentially: "I'll save us" "No, I'll save us" Gets killed repeatedly "Why didn't you help me?" "Because you didn't help me" Incoming surrender vote

It's almost impossible to win when this happens. And it should be always impossible to win when this happens. The problem is that sometimes, one of those people actually carries hard enough to win in spite of this, or the enemy team implodes on themselves even harder than your team does, thereby rewarding and encouraging the wrong behavior and guaranteeing that nothing will ever change or improve in solo queue.

Currently, junglers and supports can carry their asses off in solo queue, but since (with few exceptions) they aren't true "carries" anymore, them having good games influences the outcome far, far less than the other members of the team, and as a result far, far less than it should. And people wonder why nobody mains support, and why, thanks to the jungle changes, everyone suddenly ragequit jungling. Spoiler alert, it's because most solo queue players are incredibly selfish people who have been playing the game wrong the entire time.

Posting, just to confirm, that the struggle is still real. Not-so-small-side-note: I've had a much 'simpler,' or shall I say, 'normal,' time, climbing through silver, in previous seasons vs current. I also main jungle/sup, but can dominate a mid/top/adc game if necessary, due to the versatile champs that I main. Now, I certainly don't claim diamond-status, but it's been proven, time and again, that I can throw down in high gold/low plat teams w/o being carried, at all. 60% of low/mid silver games have people in it, that are first time ranked (post placements) or fresh off the bronze boat of hell, waving their troll banners. I thought that this would balance out, perhaps, as the weeks went on, but it hasn't at all lol I feel placement requirements, for new players, has a higher handicap, than previously, and though I like the new promo-system (so many seasons have I been on game S1: 2/5 and dropped back to 0 lp, or lower div, from troll matches) there are just SO many people who flame harder than the Olympic Torch, that I can't even get back to a promo match. I have literally have had to walk afk's off the ledge of no return, SO many times, because kids are arguing, to the extreems, with each other. There's been dozens of matches where we've had to play 3v5 (not skirmishes, but the ENTIRE game) due to afk's/trolls at 0-5 minz, sitting in base. Now, some, of said 3v5's, we actually won (most exciting games to date, actually. Wukong + Yasuo wombo combo + 1 support mage ftw) but ffs can a brudda just gtfo of Silver already, so I can actually enjoy the game and progress! Please, feel free to check stats, I certainly don't mind research and positive criticism. I'm not here to just vent, but this post caught my attention, and I had to support it, because the struggle is truly real. Cheers all. GL to those in a similar situation. I've felt your pain for the past few seasons, now, and it is truly frustrating. Congrats, to those that have enjoyed a good promo and breached the Golden shores of Narnia. Peace all.

If your actually a god support or God jungle then you will win. I hate the notion that certain roles are worse then others to carry. Just because you don't do much damage doesn't mean you can't carry with cc and peel. I have seen thresh/blitz/Leona/nautilus/Morgan's etc. carry their mediocre teams to victory. I have also seen great adc's and apc's who are fed get dominated because they have bad supports/jungles/tops. It really is team based and understanding the importance of each role is the most important knowledge of all. Which seems to be the piece most forgotten.

Kitten of Evil2 votes

You actually can't carry with CC and peel. Your team has to take advantage of the opportunities you open as a good support or jungler. If everyone plays well, of course a good supp and jungle is going to be better than a bad one, but in solo queue you have to rely on people seeing the opportunities you open.

Supps and junglers open up opportunities, carries have to use those opportunities.

You didn't understand my point. If you do a good enough job with peel and cc then you will carry. You will create enough opportunities to let your carries carry. Also most cc and peel is extremely easy to notice and take advantage of as long as your teammates are Bronze 1 or higher....

Just saying I have had games where both carries are 1/9 and the rest of the team is good enough to win. It's not impossible. You just have to adjust your play with bad players. For example if you use thresh hook and jump to the enemy carry and start your combo but your adc doesn't react. Don't do it again. Some carries need their hand held and as the jungler and support that is your role.

Velasan5 votes

I feel your pain. I was in silver and got knocked to bronze after last placements and same thing happens there. For example, I will regularly get trolled by people trying to jg who have no idea how to do it. We had an alistar jg and a TF jg who went some atrocious number like 0/8 multiple times.

Luckily the "pub stomper" thing is working for me (been going swain and have like a 60% win ratio). However, playing the same champ over and over gets tedious and still doesn't prevent those occasional games where you get someone legitimately trying to annoy everyone by feeding or afking.

The worst part is indeed the attitude at lower levels. There are so many people who think omg x champ is OP, I will just pick this champ and win. They have no idea that said champ only has a lot of POTENTIAL and not actual power if played by someone very good. I've seen multiple zeds get roflstomped both on the enemy team and my team in lower elo. Everyone seems to think he's some magical trick to winning, but never have any idea how to play him.

I've also had multiple people auto lock a champion, then say something like I've never played this champion in ranked before lets see how it goes.

And forget advice. I'll ping, tell them places are warded etc doesn't matter. They do whatever anyways. Then they will turn around and blame it on you when they are 2/8 and you are 6/1 while they are trying to split push without wards and dying repeatedly on the other side of the map.

So, yeah, we can pub stomp our way back to higher elo's. It's just not very fun.

Kitten of Evil2 votes

What do you do when your team won't let you pick mid, if your main is Swain? Do you just run him anyway, and go to another lane?

I'm asking because I'm genuinely curious and because I've become a very good Anivia player in normals (I've won 15 of my last 19 games as her, with 8/2/12 average KDA), and I want to take the plunge into ranked, riding Articuno as far as I can... but I doubt I'll be able to get mid in every game.

Thunder Dreamss2 votes

You can often take the same champion to multiple lanes as long as you practice it and know what you're doing. I've seen some scary Anivia top and she can support as well. The one big risk you run in ranked is that there are allot of people that will just strait up feed or afk if you go with a non-standard pick. When I first started playing ranked I thought "hey, nobody seems to know how to deal with my Thresh top, this shit be easy." Turns out being a 3/1 Thresh is pretty worthless when your mid has run under every turret enough times to feed every enemy lane at least 2 kills.

Kitten of Evil2 votes

Yeah, I've gone against Darius as Anivia before, and dumped on him so hard that his midlaner (Vel'Koz) swapped lanes up to top. Though I'm pretty sure Darius loses to any ranged champion.

Thanks for sharing the experience (literally).

I guess it may be part of the game... playing the pub-stompers for 20-30 games just to get out of bronze/silver to play for real. If you're really platinum skilled then it's a small price to pay playing those games to get to where you belong.

Good information though, because I'm sure we all have those games. When multiple lanes feed and you're playing the game of your life but can't do anything about it. The worst ones are when you're carrying so hard you have many chances to get back in the game and your teammates STILL won't follow your calls and chase mindlessly or ignore certain objectives or commit too hard, etc.... and make more mistakes to seal your fate when your calls would have won the game...

Kovah5 votes

This brings to mind a kind of reverberation type issue i'm reading a lot about. Gold and Plats stuck in Bronze and Silver, assuming everyone else there is (shall we say) native Bronze/Silver so they don't want to hear anything from anyone else. Further people who feel slighted by their position often are starting matches thin skinned and looking for mistakes to confirm their superiority. Mind i'm not up to rank yet though, I do however have far to much time to read the forums which is where I'm bringing this from.

Envy Sin2 votes

Zzzz well another fun one is when this happens. I'm not saying i'm the best in the world. But typically i can at least win my lane (Support main)

http://www.twitch.tv/dancex123

Smurf rolls though and rapes my ADC (Who for some reason started with crit chance items. and delt 0 damage.)

It's really frustrating, Because even IF that person is a "native" It wouldn't matter if they were from gold. The whole team rages out for the whole game. Of course it somehow ends up being my fault (Because i have a higher amount of deaths from protecting my adc???) And i literally just want to leave. People wouldn't surrender. But when you have infighting like that there isn't even a chance at a comeback.

Now had people relised this wasn't a case of Myself and my ADC being bad (Though i won't lie building crit chance before a bf sword made me want to cry) This was a case of the OTHER TEAM BEING BETTER. WHICH HAPPENS. We might have won, Focused down the Challanger Vayne and that would have been that. As it was people spent more time typing then farming.

Basically, I am not saying im stuck and cant get out, but any standard good play will not carry you out of this.

This is false. All you have to do is win more than you lose.

If you are regularly having more impact than your lane opponent, it doesn't mean you'll win every game, but you'll win more than you lose.

One person will say something, and then EVERYONE is screaming at everyone else, and they no longer play but just focus on typing to each other.

Are you imagining this doesn't happen in plat?

In my experience, plat players are the tightest wound, most prone to rage players in the entire game.

Kovah5 votes

I was plat in season 3, and was plat the ENTIRE season 4 until the last few weeks. It is SO MUCH better. The difference is in silver people get set off about 10x easier. I'm not saying it DOESNT happen in plat, but the frequency and severity of the rage is much lessened.

A KissLike Smile4 votes

Yet when a person who has only ever been in Silver (due to placements) claims it's impossible to get out they are blamed and told they obviously belong there, regardless of how well they play. I am not aiming this at anybody in particular, but the fact is that there are a lot of factors that determine a win or loss in this game, so quite often it is possible for a player to be stuck in a lower league than they could otherwise be in.

Envy Sin2 votes

Something i'm currently dealing with is all the gold players from last season, (around my MMR) are silver with me. So it's just a win-lose-win-lose.

It's the same that that happened when all the pros dropped themselves to bronze 5 and couldn't climb out because well... Everyone was at the same skill level and it was a 50-50 on wins/losses.

Sooner or later i'll climb, Or they will and i'll follow shortly after lmao.

Another factor that bothers most people is YES you might actually be better then what you're in at the time, But not good enough to carry HARD. Eg, Plat 5 player - Real skill at plat 1. This person is better, But not by enough.

GrevSev3 votes

The extreme lack of communication is a big reason why climbing is hard down here.

I have a friend that made it to plat very quickly because he had got a constant stream of teammates that wanted to win so they all worked together and got shit done.

I love trying to work out a plan during champ select only to be called a try hard a kid and told to shut the fuck up.

Also wish people would practice rolls before entering ranked. They always only tell you they're playing their worst roll AFTER the damn game loads in. I'll gladly dodge a first time jungling Talon game.

SummonerSquid3 votes

I feel your pain. Last season I peaked diamond 2 and am currently diamond 4, and still find myself having a hard time while playing with silver-gold level friends.

People in silver do not react to ganks the same way that people in diamond do. I miss half of my skillshots because I expect players to try and dodge, and that isn't always the case in lower divisions of play. It's sort of the same philosophy behind "Drunken Fighting".

It's a good learning experience to relearn how to play in lower leagues. If you can adapt to a lower level of play, it isn't such a big stretch to adapt to a higher level of play.

If you want to get out of silver you have to carry on roles people generally sucked at. Usally that is adc, support and jungle

In gold 3+ I had a 80% win rate olaf. Silver 3 I have a 38% winrate olaf. Then I decided to carry as support since bot always feed in all my games. Now I have 80% winrate as support.

Bot lane is where most problems happen in silver

not a starburst2 votes

It's one thing to say you could carry in Plat and quite another to actually do it. While your team is definitely better in plat, the same holds true for the enemy. The enemy is better, more clever, and more mechanically skilled. Carrying in Plat is much harder because the people you face will be much better. In Bronze your team might (will) choose to take Baron at the dumbest times, but think of all the times you did that and got away with it because the other team didn't bother to check.

It doesn't get easier in higher ELO. I have a few friends in Bronze. They all claim that Silver is easier. In my experience? Not particularly. You have less trolls on your team, yes, but you also have less trolls on the the other team. Your team feeds less and the other team feeds less. People who ROFLstomp as Akali or Yi run into a brick wall in higher MMR when the other team just stuns and instabursts them instead of running away in blind panic.

The level of challenge, the skill of both sides, and the lack of trolls tends to make games a lot more fun, more competitive, but definitely not easier. The idea that high ELO games are easier is a myth created by wishful thinking. This is my experience with Silver versus Bronze, and I'll bet the change from Platinum to Bronze is even more pronounced.

Furthermore, the idea that you can carry better with a good team is sort of an ipso ergo facto fallacy. Obviously, if you have the full support of your team and your team doesn't make huge, glaring errors, you're going to do well, provided you aren't a moron (and judging by your scores, you don't appear to be a moron :P). But likewise, you doing well in lower ELO is also partly the result of your enemies being less skilled and not helping whoever is carrying on their team.

TL;DR: Higher leagues tend to have better games, not easier ones. Saying you could carry in Plat is what everyone says they can do. The reality is that people are in Bronze or Silver for a reason. If you say you can carry against a team of people as good as you, but not against a team pretty inferior to you, then you might want to reexamine your assumptions.

He clearly stated that he carries game's in plat regularly with non steamroll champions.

I am assuming he got put in silver thanks to the reset, and now he HAS to play steamroll champions to get out.

That is not fun to him, and takes away from the game.

The attitude is even worse in Bronze. Not by much, but still by a decent amount, I can really understand when people say they prefer playing normals instead of ranked.

No offense, but don't let one game just get you. (You only state one example for here to prove Silver is hard to carry) I'm pretty sure you've carried your team in other ways.

No matter how good you are, they're always games that are just impossible to carry. There are also times when you have bad games and can't carry.

Try to just do your best and carry your teammates as hard as you can. If you can't well, then at least you learned something or put some good effort. Don't let a few games get ya. Don't let the toxic ragers get ya.(mute button helps alot) Don't argue back with those toxic ragers. Arguing against them is like counting your ants in your yard. Stand up tall and try your best and eventually youll carry out pretty fine. :D

Coming from a Quinn ADC main who's at least carried from Silver V to Silver III in one series of promos. Pretty sure I've carried my team pretty hard in a lot of games... (Including a 4v5, games with toxic people, etc (But I also have my bad games too))

QFT. I let people rant on here though because we've all been there. I've had a lot of bad games in the last two days to nonsense and afkers. I know that after having it happen repeatedly you just want to vent.

What makes carrying hard in low elo is not can you take out enemy champs. That part is easy. It's that low elo players don't do what you expect them to do (and I'm not even like gold 1 or anything previously). They will go for baron at odd times, suddenly retreat from team fights when they get scared leaving you up front, or push team fights with a missing person and low hp. So, it helps to pick champs who have steamroll capability. That way you can at least take out 2-3 people and hope that the rest of your team is good enough to mop up.

Sometimes there are just bad games or sometimes people feed too much even doing that. Basically you're hoping that if you play well enough your good games will outweigh your bad games (unless you get bad luck of the draw and have a bunch of afkers in a row, which does happen). For example, I had a game recently that I went something like 11/5 and by end of game was like 16/10 and we lost because too much of our team fed and the enemy team had a ton of cc. I could usually jump in and kill someone, but then I got jumped on and cc'ed for like 5 seconds straight with everyone focusing me.

You just do what you can, learn from your mistakes (and wins), and try your best.

When you're seriously on tilt just play team builder or find another game to play for a while. Better yet take a walk or don't play games at all. It sounds obvious, but it helps.

Can someone explain to me their defenition of carry? i just can't picture 1 person doing all the work. Unless the enemy team is like dumb, which that makes your team even worst than dumb....

In bronze you meet Akali mains who trash talk everyone, "ez noobs, come 1v1 me bot, haha can only kill me with team" are the most common lines.

Edit: dat necro

Different strategies are needed in different elos - personal opinion.

This is true. You dont carry in silver with the same champs you do in plat. Playing with people who understand the game is a lot different than people who dont.

holy necromaner...

but yeah point is still true

I fucking hate people who say 'oh you cant carry them so youre just as bad' when my team fed their ass off and the enemy team is snowballing like crazy. Even in a fucking bot game you can't carry that shit.

Risen291 votes

The OPs post is still true.

The kind of champions and tactics you need to carry silver is completely different. You need to play something thay kills early and snowballs. Because the only way to carry is to snowball harder than the guys on the other team. Because someone on each team is guaranteed to feed early and often, and probably more than one.

This is why I had so much trouble originally trying to play more team dependant carries like viktor.

I honestly don't find the snowball carries as fun or interesting, but you just dont have any other choice if you want to make it out of elo hell.
