A Tank Meta Without Damage is Utility
To show my cards, I play tanks a lot and I don't intend to stop. I also think the Tank Meta is the best meta because it allows time for thought and not insta-delete.
Having said that, the arguments that tank meta means tanks are unkillable and put out a ton of damage - yes, I think that's bad. But the obvious alternative is utility, and we need a bit more of that. The model I look at when considering this is (to use a few examples):
Poppy's W which counters the mobility creep Braum's W which is an anti-hook measure (among other things) Tahm's W which (used to?) pull someone out of a stun or root in clutch situations.
Utility is the means by which an near unkillable tank should be addressed. Make tanks the front line support, controlling the fight from there. Restricting dashes, putting up physical barriers, redirecting skill shots, exposing invis, AOE lifesteal negation, something like Zilean's ult, auras, buffs, Alistars heal...
Tanks are, generally speaking, less valuable because they don't tank. They're a punching bag that walks around the team fight.
