I think League Average when starting ranked needs to be moved up from Silver 4

EDIT: I should note I never played ranked before (was unranked prior to S5) I played my 10 placement matches this past week. I went 8-2, W W L W W W W L W W.

Not one of those games had anything go horrendously wrong. None of the wins had 1 player get ridiculously fed (although a few had the whole team get quite far ahead, but the enemy team had no complaints in defeat). The first loss our top laner fed a couple early kills but as Jungler I just ganked for him a few times and pulled our team ahead (and eventually threw with a bad engage). The second loss was much like the wins where one team as a whole got ahead - their jungler had some early ganks and they grouped as a team early and snowballed.

With an 8-2 record I got placed in Silver 1. In my first 2 games in Silver 1, I've seen way more toxicity and bad players than I had in all my placements combined, including from the enemy teams. In each game, no pings were used for MIAs. Blame was thrown everywhere. At least one player got ridiculously fed (in the last game, the enemy Katarina got 20 stacks on her soulstealer, twice).

Even the players in my first placement games, who were supposedly Silver 4 MMR, were much better than what I've seen in my first 2 ranked games in Silver 1 (I've looked up the players, they're Silver 2 to Gold 5).

I'm bringing up a legitimate question - should we really assume new-to-ranked players are silver 4? In my experience from placements and my first two games thereafter, new-to-ranked players are better than gold 5.

Of course, there's one point I'm leaving out entirely. Today is a Saturday. I had reading week this week, and my placements were during the week. Is it possible that feeders/trolls/ragers/what-have-you play on weekends and late-evenings, and they can be avoided entirely by playing during the day? I'm honestly going to go back to playing during the week soon, and if my experience is better I'll be sure to update this so anyone who needs to carry themselves out of lower elo's can do it more easily.

I voted good luck on placements, but that's not really the case. While it's true that some people (like you) really do go through their placements, do well, and wind up climbing into gold and beyond (especially those with previous experience with games like League), the majority of players that go through their placements are bad, new players. Almost all new players wind up sinking to Bronze after their placements (if not as a direct result of them). A lot of people stay in Bronze for an extended period of time, too. Which is what they reasonably should do, because they (we) haven't developed their skill level enough.
