Dear riot. Please don't release any more AOE DPS mages

Marshbouy··5 votes·1,227 views

Sincerely Ryze AurelionSol Azir (especially ones that have great roaming abilities) I'll explain. All three of those champions are (or were) DPS mages. All three have also been massive LCS picks(or were with pre rework ryze), with aurelion sol even being called a "boosting champion" by korean players. Because of this all three have been either reworked or nerfed into the ground. It is very apparent the DPS mages just do not work in league of legends. Please stop attempting to create them.

Aren't Swain and Cassiopeia DPS mages?

There's nothing wrong with the idea, only the execution. I think Sol's DPS is the most fair honestly.

Is that how they spell them in Canada

Marshbouy1 votes

maybe. TBH i'd like to live in canada, but i don't. I live in america "sobs in freedom"

Ralanr1 votes

Ok, I can see the OTP problem.

Are you talking about the link to apdo's post? Because it think that's hilarious. I'm going to link that anytime someone says that aurelion sol didn't deserve nerfs.

Ralanr1 votes

Yeah. Also noticed his view on Yasuo (and how Elise is always the best jungler for any comp).

Why does no one complain about Elise? She is used a stupid amount in proplay.

Marshbouy1 votes

Bullshit aside Yasuo is a broken champion. People say he's a high skillcap champion, but the secret with Yasuo is knowing how to control yourself while playing such a overpowered champion. Yasuo's weakness comes from the fact that he is too strong. His laning phase is so strong that after the laning phase people do not know how to keep calm and throw the game.

Thinking about it, this is actually pretty true. I've seen so many yasuos just flip their shit and go 1v3 and end up throwing the game.

I have no clue why people don't complain about elise. I just really don't know.

Ralanr1 votes

The only Yasuo player I haven't seen as incredibly toxic would probably be Trinnimortal (because honestly he's smart enough not to...actually he's made some pretty stupid plays, but he has self control. Which as the post pointed out, that's all you really need).

Marshbouy1 votes

side note here: the mage mains have come. I must prepare for my inevitable suffering.

I don't watch high level players, although i probably should. I could learn a lot.

Ralanr2 votes

To be fair, you're asking to no longer make a particular type of mage.

I don't think Riot shouldn't attempt it. AD has sustained and burst champion diversity after all. I just think that they have problems doing it because of how little in good MR items there are.

There's no item to actually weaken the impact of a DPS mage.

Marshbouy2 votes

To be fair, you're asking to no longer make a particular type of mage.

i mean that's true, but at the same time no one can deny that there have been huge issues in the past with it.

There's no item to actually weaken the impact of a DPS mage.

didn't think about that. If they did create more MR items then there would be more chances for DPS mages to be more balanced but there would have to be compensation for non DPS mages if they do get nerfed. OFC rylais would need changes first too.

It's actually why I hate fighting Teemo. Sure Omen or Heart will slow his attacks, but they won't reduce the magic damage at all.

And Teemo is a AA heavy magic champion. The others are spell heavy, so it's hard to build something that counters them.

Off the top of my head I can think of something that reduces incoming magic damage from the same source till a cap, and only applies if that source has hit you within X seconds. Also need to make it so damage from multiple sources apply different reduction stacks instead of all applying the same stack else this would be stupid broken in teamfights.

And azir's, since mobility heavily counters him.

Ralanr2 votes

Ehh...his ult and own mobility makes that hard to believe.

It's not a matter of balance, rather a matter of personal preference.

None of the listed champions lack counters nor is a free-elo booster (Koreans can use all the excuses they want, they just tilt at facing zoning mages). Their succes is bound to min/maxers setting a certain team enviroment which makes zoning mages particularly effective.

Aurelion Sol is countered by anything with an instant gap closer, any AD assa, Fizz, LB and Akali just walk over him but ppl won't use them because they have to think of a team strategy rather than counterpicking.

Azir is heavily countered by Ziggs, Zed and Xerath yet you'll never see them there because of the exact same reason.

I don't know enough about Ryze to talk about balance issues but it's clear as the Sun that what makes Riot nerfing those champions is just what they think it's best for the show and not what is balanced.

Marshbouy1 votes

I think your "personal opinion" is vastly outweighed by LCS history and statistics.

TyrekGoldenspear2 votes

And I think you have selective memory of LCS statistics.

DPS mages are balenceable just like ADCs.

You simply would rather not face them so you pick and choose instances that supoort your view then complain to Riot with your "irrefutable statistics"

Marshbouy1 votes

Sure, you can balance them for LCS, but i don't want you to ever complain about 40% winrate Azir, or any other DPS mage being gutted for LCS reasons.

Moneymonster71 votes

Zed and Leblanc have also both been popular professional play picks as well in the past... Neither is a DPS champion. There's nothing wrong with DPS, it's just a different playstyle that people need to learn to play around.

Marshbouy1 votes

Have they had 70% winrate mains, 100% lcs pick/ban rates, and have been massive balance issues?

Penns1 votes

I think the problem isnt really that they are dps mages. The problem with Taliyah and Aurelion for example is that they are really "high skill cap" champs with good+easy wave clear, roaming and stuff like that.

Marshbouy1 votes

good+easy wave clear

mandatory Ziggs

A large part of it is being DPS though. Although the ability to clear waves with ease is certainly very valuable, the ability to constantly output damage is pretty huge.

I'll add "especially ones that can roam" :)

Penns1 votes

Ziggs doesnt have good early wave clear with no cost in his passive, and he cant oneshot all ranged minions at level 1 like Taliyah tho. I think he can be pretty good too but apparently his Q is easy to dodge.. Idk, I didnt play against one for months lol.

Marshbouy1 votes

It's pretty subjective. I was mainly joking about the ziggs part.

Ralanr1 votes

It's almost like Riot got tired of only having assassins roam.

Penns1 votes

I dunno, Im pretty sure all mid laners had to roam but assassins were just better than most mages. And they should be imo since they are... assassins. And melee, so they cant wave clear or anything, which a mid laner should.

Requiemsfire1 votes

2 of them are still fantastic picks. :)

Marshbouy2 votes

Which ones? Ryze doesn't count, as he is no longer DPS. that leaves azir and aurelion sol, Azir has been gutted pretty hard and is trash outside of LCS (unless you have hundreds of games) and aurelion sol is just kinda "eh" now.

Requiemsfire1 votes

How is Aurelion sol gutted and trash? He has a 51% win rate across the board with a 60% winrate for his mains who actually take the time to practice him?

Ryze's current win rate is 43% extremely low, but for statistically speaking if you play 80 games of Ryze you should have a close to 56% winrate with him which is fairly good but that's only if you're willing to put time and effort into learning him.

Marshbouy1 votes

aurelion sol is just kinda "eh" now

don't remember saying that he is gutted and trash in my response. Weird.

Ryze doesn't count, as he is no longer DPS.

I agree that the current ryze is powerful if you learn him, but old ryze was a huge balance issue.

Requiemsfire1 votes

To be fair, I love new ryze so much better than old Ryze, he just clicks with me and I've started playing him mid every chance I get. His very unique amongst mages in how he combos.

What I think people struggle with when it comes to new Ryze is executing his different combos correctly because it's screw up. I do it all the time with my long root combo EWQ instead of going for the DPS combo QEQWQ when I need to. It's easy to mess it up.

Personally I've had success against assassins like Zed and Talon as Ryze and quite a few mages. Though an ezreal I played against recently wasn't the best in the world because he just let me punish him for not standing behind minions letting me flash for the kill.

How is any of this relevant. Literally none of it is relevant.
