How to "Fix" this weird mess we ended up with

First off let me say diversity is fine. However since i ranted some poor boards users ear off i figured id make a post.

This assassin+fighter mess happened very simply.

Say we are on a graph, Tanks, adcs, and supports are all linked on this graph since in the "team" meta ill call it they were very important trifecta to make eachother work. So if one gets nerfed the others get dragged down slightly.

Now on the other side we have the fighters (who are typically held back by tanks) and Assassins (who are held back by supports.)

And in the corner we have mages who really are only affected by ADCs and assassins, because if assassins are weak they can win lane, but if adcs are weak, assassins will get fed off roams and come back and shove his knife up the mages... spinal cord.

When tanks get nerfed, fighters rise, but also adcs and supports lose a little (practically unnoticable amount of strength)

HOWEVER, its not unnoticeable with what happened here.

Riot didnt want to completely gut adcs+tanks+supports, that would take an utter TON of work. So they tried raising assassins and fighters with many MANY buffs to items, however other classes would abuse those items, so they would nerf those items but buff the classes that use them JUST the right amount so say everyone wasnt building duskblade.

However this happened SO MANY TIMES since Riot stated they want to make fighters and assassins back again, that they figured that the "holy trifecta" was so strong they nerfed all 3. ADCs got a damage reduction vs squishies, supports got standard shield nerfs (which combined with the adc changes straight slaughtered enchanter+adc) And the jungle changes made fast clearing dueling junglers (look at this fighters and graves) a priority.

So what happened was the graph all got really high (except mages) and when fighters and assassins FINALLY passed the other 3, because they were buffed so many times since the start of season. all other roles just crashed down.

So how do we fix it? Well simple really. Adcs prob dont need a buff, neither do tanks or supports. However the buffs that fighters and assassins got these last few patches need to start slowly getting toned down. An ult cdr here (looking at you Zed ) an ability base or ratio there ( cough cough Talon ) an item nerf around (item 3748 )

Just nice and slowly, and hopefully damage will be toned down, AND for the first time since season like... 4. Meta, will be a few strong champions that are abusing something and not just an entire class running amok.

I would have to agree with you on this. We all kept calling riot's balancing team apes when all of their balance changes were intentional. Riot stated in the latest patch 8.13 that they wanted more active play so they increased damage over the year and now they are looking to tone down snowbally issues that was the side-effect of the former.

I just think at the moment, riot can truly balance the game more or less, if they tone down assassins (just a little at a time) and sort out the problems that immobile mages are having due to increased mobility creep. Tanks can survive because they either have some form of cc or MS steroid and enough tankiness to survive burst but mages suffer the most.

RIght now seeing how taliyah jgl has the highest winrate and 2 AP bot lane is played often makes me enjoy the game evenmore. Just the damage is way too high and needs toning down slowly by slowly.
