Why aren't there more servers?

Why doesn't NA have an array of servers across the continent? Why doesn't Africa have a server at all?

How much do servers even cost? Seems weird that a skin released to contribute to the worlds prize pool can make millions of dollars, but they can't release a good skin and put the proceeds towards investment in the infrastructure of the game.

That's just how it seems as an outsider looking in. It seems like riot is cutting big corners. You can't make the game all about upfront damage and burst when a lot of people play on 50+ ping.

More servers = less population per server = smaller pool to match make from = even worse match making.

The goal is to get as many people as possible at a respectable ping (< 80ms or so), not to get everyone to < 30ms.

With an array of NA servers, surely you could have matchmaking with all of the unfilled games hosted by the (say 3 servers, west, central and east) 3 servers, but you don't get punished for declining your 3rd choice of server if you reside in the west or east.

This would increase the decline rate, but I'm sure that could be mitigated by a soft priority system, which would marginally increase queue times. There would be a way to make it work, I'm sure.
