Junglers, it isn't the end of the world if someone accidentally takes your first buff.

I just played a game where the enemy team's Soraka somehow took first red from their jungling Pantheon. Since the Raka knew she screwed up, she offered to help him farm for a bit (and being Raka, she could do that without sending a single auto attack). And yet, what does this Pantheon decide to do?

Essentially rage quit at that very moment, run down bot multiple times, feeding 4 kills over to us, and then leaving the game all together.

He "finished" the game 0/4/1, with 0 CS.

Look, I know it is incredibly difficult to do even a single camp when your first buff gets taken away from you. Anyone who has played jungle a decent amount knows full well how difficult it is.

But that is, by no means, any legitimate reason to screw over your team because you think they're trolling you (when, in reality, your actions make you more akin to a troll). Mistakes happen. Perhaps that auto came at the very last second after you smite the camp; maybe the player who took it lagged for a second, and couldn't stop autoing the camp (this has happened to me). Who knows, but whatever did happen, it doesn't give you the reason to rage quit the game, and ruin your teammate's game.

ESPECIALLY if the person who took it is OFFERING to help you farm. If my support accidentally takes a buff off of our jungler, I will gladly play a 2v1 for a short time. Not only am I decent enough ADC to do so, I'm also smart enough to play much safer than usual. That, and I get extra experience while being alone, so, once my support comes back, and gets some levels under their belt, we will actually be at an advantage over the enemy ADC.

Just power through it, and you may even end up as a better jungler as a result.

If a jungler smites, a friendly should not be able to steal the first buff. You don't need the health to survive your first buff so shouldn't be smiting early.

The jungler obviously screwed up if he smites too soon allowing a Raka AA to kill it. Also, if his leash is still there, why smite? Save it for sustain or to contest later.

Shitty jungler.

Who smites first buff?

PLENTY of people, especially low elo.

Well the type of people that smite first buff in the scenario that kid described deserve to lose the game.

  1. They shouldn't be smiting.

  2. If they smite at some random early time they're low IQ goblins and you're technically in a 4v6.

Sadly, too many junglers I see. I had this happen where I stole a blue buff because the jungler decided to smite and leave like 30 ish hp on his blue buff. Of course I proceeded to get spam pinged.

Like, wtf are you even doing smiting that thing?

Surr20plz1 votes

Yeah, that's just bad...and dumb.

Shouldn't be happening this far into a season.

Just proves that most people are idiots.

Grymmstrike2 votes

The jungler probably didn't smite because it helps you clear if you save your smite instead of using it for the leashed camp...

RenownedWheat423 votes

If raka was able to steal it, it's likely he smited too early. No reason for her to stick around once it hits like 200 hp.

Grymmstrike1 votes

No, if Raka was able to steal it, it is likely that Pantheon didn't want to waste his Smite and thought his support would be smart enough to stop attacking when it got low. As a Soraka you don't even have to auto, just heal him if he gets low.

RenownedWheat423 votes

It's good of her to offer to help, but it's a HUGE setback to lose your first buff. Happens to me sometimes and usually the person who takes it decides not to help me catch up, and I end up being behind the enemy jungler for a LONG while.

Electro5222 votes

Oh I know....it isn't easy.

But it still doesn't give you the right to intentionally feed, and rage quit the game right there.

RenownedWheat423 votes

Honestly if you get caught out after losing your first buff, say the enemy jungler decides to invade, you're going to feed regardless because now you can't even fight back. I've been on either side of this.

This.

If they fuck me over I'm not going to quit, BUT I DON'T WANT TO HEAR ONE FUCKING WORD FROM ANY SPERGLORD ABOUT ME UNTIL WE'RE ALL LEVEL 18.

Until then, just stfu because I've been fucked.

And then the rest of your team will make sure you get reported. Further, there are a lot of people that keep the sns of people that wrong them and when they play same team again...... Payback.

i have lots of accounts none of this really effects me

  1. It's not the end of the world, but it's almost certainly the end of your jungle.
  2. There is literally no reason in the world Soraka should ever be last-hitting a buff she's leashing.
RenownedWheat421 votes

It can be an accident. Sometimes you misjudge the damage you're doing, sometimes as a jungler you smite too early and the person hasn't left yet, plenty of problems can happen (even though they honestly shouldn't). But yeah, the setback is freaking enormous.

Electro5221 votes

Yeah, I'm not sure how she took it either.

Paquay3 votes

Wrong. I do full leashes all the time so the jungler can save his smite for future sustain, contesting, and clear speed.

If the jungler smites and leaves enough hp for an auto to kill it, that's his fault.

Glory ln Death3 votes

You really shouldn't even still be there once the buff hits 3-400 health - there is no jungler that can't solo it at that point, with or without using smite. Plus, if you stay longer than that, you will miss the gold and XP from your first 3 minions.

DunkinNoobs2 votes

It actually is on any sort of momentum based jungler. Pantheon certainly qualifies. Not only does taking the first buff deny it to your jungler, but it also steals all the exp as well, keeping them at lvl 1. This pretty much ruins your first clear and you can expect your jungler to be useless for the first 10-15 minutes of the game because of this.

I remember i missed smite with shyv, set me back a bitbut i came back. we lost the game but i was still did my job well. (it said blue had 380 hp so when i went to smite it i thought it would die, somehow it didn't)

I was playing Kayle and took a buff when Kindred smited it when it had like 398 HP,it only kept her back an early level but due to her kiting camps in general she is a kinda of champion that doesn't really need a buff to start. I have never done Pantheon jungle(I own him but that doesn't really seem viable...)but early I don't think the buff will set him back much...

That sort of thing happens to me way more often than it should, but I've seen it happen more often from a jungler screwing up than the people leashing.

I particularly love when people ask for a leash when I'm on Twitch. Then fail to last hit or smite. Even if I leave it at 1/4 HP. "GG Twitch stole my buff" Jungler gives up and/or feeds due to tilt. Proceeds to flame entire game if they don't AFK first.

Being jungle isn't a magical excuse for not last hitting, and if you have trouble last hitting I think missing the buff is probably the least of the issues you're going to face. If you screw up and one of your teammates is offering to help, sure you aren't being as efficient as you could/should be, but it shows that your teammates are actually invested in the team. That on it's own is already a decent step beyond a lot of solo q games already.

As a Warwick/Kindred/Elise/Vi player, it kinda is the end of the world on certain champs. Vi/Elise/Warwick have no problem with it, but if I'm playing Kindred, kiss my pressure good bye as well as my clearing speed. When I play kindred I dont smite the first buff, I start W and kite it while bot leashes. I like them to leave at about 200hp left cause I can ez kite that without taking damage.

So while it isnt the end of the world with all junglers, with junglers like Kindred or even Twitch jungle, it kinda is. Especially if theres a lee sin on their side.

YoungSirJ0ey1 votes

I mean, yeah, you should never do that just on principle, but on some junglers, it basically makes you entirely irrelevant for the first 20 minutes, and as an Eve main, that's basically the end of the world. As a side note, accidental camp steals happen a stupid amount in Bronze.

Elixaurt1 votes

i usually give my team buffs but when your lv 1 and someone does it intentionally i get really tilted. Today was the first time i have ever rage quit PERIOD it is so damn frustrating when they steal your buff and then you die trying to steal the enemies buffs

and i just got carpal tunnel syndrom and my stomach hurts so i was in a bad mood normally i just play through the game and do what i can but today...... fuck that XinZhao
