Autofill Me and I'll Deliberately Make Queues Longer

Woodakoodashooda··15 votes·1,051 views

I'll wait until the last second to ban. I'll wait until the last second to pick. And, if no one dodges, I'll wait until the last second to leave.

Autofill to decrease queue times?

I'll INCREASE them!

This is my protest against Autofill.

I've bad news, you're an ass.

There isn't enough supports in the community, that's a fact, period. Someone has to fill. You can be a respectable player and do your part once in a while. Or you can be an ass and do just what you describe. Your call.

I hope you're a statistical anomaly and people are better than you.

I've news for you. League is a game, not community service, not volunteer work. It is a game. As such, it is something to be enjoyed. It is not work. I've no obligation to it or you or the next player or to Riot.

DeathBurst7 votes

You have just as many obligations to the next player as HE has obligations to YOU, dumbass. If no one wants to play support, then no one can play at all, and that's a nice enjoyment you got there.

So learn to fucking support or go enjoy some 1v1 game. Because yes, there is community service in a team game.

(And let's not mention that you go beyond refusing to do community service, you purposefully hurt the enjoyment of other players. You know what happens to player who purposefully hurt other players? They get banned. So come again with your "I have no obligations to other players"...)

They should get banned. But all too often they are allowed to act in such manners indefinitely.

This guy should absolutely be banned based solely on his attitude and desire to purposefully ruin the enjoyment of others for his own amusement, but he will never see it that way and Riot won't do what they should do and perma players like this.

Things were better when we had Tribunal and we, the players, could remove this type of filth on our own.

DeathBurst2 votes

I started playing after the tribunal system was phased out, so I can't compare, but the current system is OK, by my book. The problem with this guy is that we cannot report it, since the end-of-game screen never pops in this context, but as far as I know, you couldn't bring his case to the Tribunal in the old system either.

Oh nothing he's posted on the boards should have any affect on this account. That's not how it works.

But just looking at his attitude on the boards its obvious he has an equally poor attitude in game and does things on a daily basis that he should be banned for and probably isn't.

DeathBurst2 votes

That's an unproven assumption... And if he was behaving poorly in-game, he would get reported and banned.

Not sure why you're getting downvoted. You're absolutely right; it's a GAME meant to be ENJOYED. 'Do your part once in a while' is such an asinine statement. I say this as a support main. No one should have to fill the support role if they don't want to.

All that said, I think waiting as long as you can to ban/pick and just lengthening the time spent in lobby is hurting more than helping. Voice your concerns, but don't slow down other players that have nothing to do with the problem at hand.

jaymc11307 votes

Ok.

Who cares?

I'm used to waiting 15-30 minutes for a match. Don't bug me one bit.

Funny how this type of attitude is almost exclusively seen from low level players.

I don't think I've seen autofill be disabled for months at this point (though I mostly play Normal Draft).

As such, this doesn't really change anything for me.

I honestly don't care about autofill any ways. Complete non factor.

All good players do the same thing they've always done anyways in lobby. The ignore pick order. They ignore Role Selection. They ignore autofill. And they work together as a team to figure out which players are best at what and then put every player in a role they are capable and confident at.

Good players never cared what lobby system we had or how it functioned because we just ignored it any ways and figured out what was best for the team among ourselves.

yeah, maybe in high elo. do you really think that players below plat are going to communicate in champ select and care about their team?

Yeah. They always do when I'm playing smurfs. That's for sure. It might have something to do with the fact that I encourage teamwork and cooperation and am usually willing to do whatever is in the best interest of the team and am always the one to break the ice and start coming up with a game plan.

This skill is largely why I've been a top 1% player for the last 4 seasons.

And I have this happen pretty much every single lobby in low elo when I smurf.

People don't want to be assholes and troll (ok, MOST people don't, there are indeed some true jerks out there and you are allowed to dodge for a reason as that type of person is never worth playing with), they want to be a part of a team, work as a team, win as a team.

The problem with most folks like you is that you have never learned how to be part of a team in a team game.

Its not all your fault, its mostly on Riot in my opinion for setting up systems that discourage teamwork and communication and encourage selfishness.

This is why I'm a support main; it was the only role left when I first started playing because no one else ever wanted it. I did my part for the team, but I can also tell you that this is a video game meant to be enjoyed. The real problem is that Riot expects to be able to force people to play a role they don't want- if they didn't mind filling, they'd choose fill.

Don't force people to play something they don't even enjoy. That's how you get people to quit. Not just in a team game, but ANY game; present a player with something they have to do but would really rather not do...

Don't force people to play something they don't even enjoy. That's how you get people to quit.

Gonna focus on just this part.

Actually, the opposite is empirically true given the evidence.

I'll explain. For 5 years this game had no Role Selection. Players were often forced to play things they didn't enjoy. And the game grew consistently for 5 years.

Now we have this season. The ONLY season with Role Selection. And yet this is the ONLY season in which the league player population has declined (by about 20-25% compared to this point in time last year).

Players didn't quit because they were forced to play things they didn't enjoy. Instead, this circumstance resulted in growth, new players joined the game.

Players DID quit when a system was introduced this season that gave them a sense of ENTITLEMENT to a role and that they should never ever have to play something they don't 100% enjoy. Quite simply, when Riot catered to casual players and implemented Role Selection it caused a mindset shift within the community that was largely detrimental to the health of the game as it caused a huge portion of the serious players to quit.

If wanting to play something you enjoy and not waste your time on a role you don't is considered entitlement...

...when Riot catered to casual players and implemented Role Selection...

Not sure how this is relevant. The desire to play a role you are good at or even excel at in an effort to actually win is far from 'casual' in my book.

Did people all of a sudden stop enjoying just playing the game? There was no such thing as Role Selection for 6 years before this season. Players always had a low chance of having to play something they didn't enjoy. We didn't bitch about it much then...

Why so much whining about it now? Its because you feel entitled to something, you all were spoiled rotten by Role Selection.

Not sure how this is relevant. The desire to play a role you are good at or even excel at in an effort to actually win is far from 'casual' in my book.

Role Selection catered to casual players because they didn't want to spend the time required to be good at the game in a wide variety of circumstances and Riot gave them a way to avoid ever having to learn basic fundamental game play. There's nothing wrong with a player playing or wanting to play what they are best at. I'm all for this. I absolutely want you playing your best thing too. But if your best thing is the same as Bob's best thing, only Bob is 85% better at it I don't want you playing it. I want bob playing it. And that means you need to know how to play something else with at least a minimal degree of competency. And since Role Selection gives players reason to avoid ever having to learn how to be competent at other things this is going to negatively impact the quality of the match. You simply won't be able to play it competently.

This is a problem and a very very bad thing for the health of the game. Riot basically created a system with Role Selection that discourages players from learning how to play the game.

I'm sure there were countless threads about being forced into playing something you didn't want because you were last pick. It's probably why we got Team Builder in the first place.

It's possible to know how to play every role but not enjoy some of them. It's possible to be good at a role but dislike it.

It is possible. to be skilled at something. and still. hate. doing. it.

Fair points.

But there are LOTS of players. When a match goes off SOME one has to be in all the roles. And every so often this means SOME one will have to play a role they don't enjoy.

Other wise the game can't function and NO ONE gets to play.

This means, if we want to play, its our responsibility, ALL OF US, to occasionally play something we don't enjoy for the good of the game, the team, the community.

Its like paying taxes.

Do people like paying taxes? No.

But they have to do it anyways. If we don't pay taxes we have no schools, no roads, no police, no sanitation, no power, the very fabric and structure of society fails and falls into ruin.

Playing a role you don't enjoy on occasion in league is like paying taxes in real life. If you don't do it then the game dies and no one gets to play, ever. So just fork over the 10 bucks.

I think players below Diamond level make up the bulk of the playerbase. I have to leave for work or I'd look up some numbers, but yeah. Why shouldn't Riot cater to statistics that make up a lot of, if not most or even almost all, their customer base?

I pay taxes because I go to jail if I don't. It's a video game that most people play to relax from their real lives. I find this comparison to be kind of arrogant. 'Well sometimes you have to do things you don't want to do in life!' Okay mom.

Does the MLBPA make decisions based on how many more little leaguers there are than professional baseball players?

Why would you force professional baseball players to play by little league rules?

Hate to break it to ya mate. That's life.

Sorry if it comes off kind of Mom-ish. Can't help it, father of 2.

Krigjer1 votes

Why would you force professional baseball players to play by little league rules?

Again, these comparisons don't really make sense. If professional baseball players = Diamond and above Little League players = Gold level and below

Your logic = gold level and below wanted team builder, diamond did not. So Little Leaguers wanted something casual, Professionals did not. In your analogy you're stating the Professionals have to play by Little League rules when in reality it's the Professionals that want Little Leaguers to do things their way (Diamond players calling everyone that wanted Team Builder casuals and saying they 'should git gud' )

Higher level players were always free to just... not play team builder. Or select fill in the new dynamic queue if they preferred their role being selected for them. Now everyone is being forced to fill. You can't show people something and then yank it away. Riot pushed Team Builder with 'now you can play what you WANT to play, all the time!' then took it away because they deemed queue times were too long. I have seen countless threads with people saying they'd rather wait LONGER to play what they WANT than to be forced into a role they dislike just to shorten timers.

Hate to break it to ya mate. That's life.

I still think this is incredibly arrogant when talking about a video game. This isn't something necessary to survival like a job or education. This isn't 'suck it up or suffer socially/financially.' It's 'I don't like these changes and will just find a different game to play.'

Yes we did - but only about support for the most part. The core problem is the fact that this game has a support role, which 95% of the community does not much enjoy. Make this a 4 v 4 game and they'd have much happier players.

Its not an exact science, its an art form. You have to be able to read the players on the team. You have to be able to tell if they need to be bossed around, cajoled, wined and dined, etc. You cant reach every person the same way and its hard to reach any one when you are just some random no one to them. This means before you try to reach them you need to do something to become a person of interest to them first. Introduce yourself, crack a joke and make em laugh. Start posting each persons op.gg url in the lobby for the rest of the team to look at and go over. Some times you need the heavy hand, some times the light touch. Learning which situations and what types of players need which will take some time, but keep at it, its just basic psychology, and soon enough you'll be able to anticipate exactly what you need to do, post, or say in order to get the team to open up and start behaving like a team.

Some times you will get those truly obstinate and anti social folks, and sometimes those are people you can't reach. But this won't be the case most often.

I'm probably Silver trash (never ranked) but I always ask people if they have preferences before I play Kled/Kass/Kog.

And I like picking to supplant my team (or to hard counter if possible) but I'm getting away from that so I can get mechanically stronger with certain champs.

Pretty much restricting myself to maining champs at this point.

This is the unfortunate effect of autofill, people like this exist in all ELO by the way. No one likes getting autofilled, otherwise they would just pick fill anyhow.

A person making a statement about it would be best served by stopping playing, which may be why we are seeing more autofill issues like these already actually. I was going to play some more games last night but was tired of the queue dodging by autofill players or just bad teammates who were unfamiliar with their role or champions. Being in Plat this should not be an issue, but it is, so I chose not to play anymore.

Less players playing more need for autofill, more autofilling less players want to play.

TiniNinja1 votes

You got an army behind you bro. Autofill is fucking garbage and I'll be apart of 70% dodge rate.

TiniNinja1 votes

I didn't even like the idea of being forced into choosing a secondary role. Now if my main position doesn't get fucked with by my second position I got a whole new problem. I play this game to enjoy it. I enjoy one lane and now I've got like a 20% chance of even getting in it.

SSrikeShadow1 votes

I will afk in game instead of dodging.

AcidTheWarlock1 votes

I could give less fucks about autofill. I'm fine with playing support, I can jungle and I can play ADC if I must.

The only thing that's gotten me about autofill is that I've had to take mid far too many times, and I play top lane.
