Do you really enjoy ranked anymore ?

It's either stomp or get stomped. I feel like I don't influence shit anymore, it's just decided in champ select and who got more people autofilled. Also, the win X games and then lose X games is getting fucking boring after 3 seasons of playing ranked. 'Won 5 games in a row, oh well, I guess I have to play out the next 5 losses then'. Even when I watch youtubers that have 4 games in one vid, it's always win 2 hard, lose 2 hard or vice versa. Watched scarra a lot lately, even his games are mostly over by 10 mins. They sometimes have a mild comeback, but lose nonetheless. Always watched voyboy, one of the most positive streamers and players ever, and now even he looks like he's depressed most of the time playing ranked. I got to high d2 with a 60% win rate on my main champ, then I lost like 15-20 games and went back to d5, wooo, much fun. Didn't play ranked for a month, and I'm still tilted. Idk what to do anymore, autofill + bad matchmaking makes highly unbalanced matches and I see it everywhere. Especially diamond ++, you can't play all 5 roles on a diamond+ lvl and when you get 2 autofilled players that go against people that main that role, it's obvious you're gonna lose. Idk what's the solution here, but I do know that ranked is a coin toss right now.

I'd enjoy ranked a lot more if my ranking was just my MMR and they got rid of promos. When I was in silver 1 trying to get promoted to gold 5 I was going up against gold 2 to plat 4 players which makes absolutely no sense. Why should I have to beat high gold or low plat players at a 60% win rate in order to get into gold 5? If my MMR is that of a gold 2 player then I should be in gold 2, I shouldn't have to play an extra 50-100 games to get there. Likewise, if I'm a bronze 5 player then I should be in bronze 5, I shouldn't have a safety net where I ruin 50-100 games for people until I fall to the correct rank.

Sounds like you want a system based only on rank and not MMR.

Fat Bricks24 votes

It sounds like he wants his rank to be his mmr.

Randomonium9 votes

I want my rank to be my MMR. There's no need for this whole division system and a hidden MMR. All it does is act as an artificial damper to keep people in their current rank for a longer period of time. People who are better than their rank take much longer to reach the rank they deserve and people who are much worse than their rank take much longer to reach where they belong.

I don't want a safety net and I don't want anything holding me back. Let me rise or fall without any strings attached.

AFAIK, MMR is used to prevent players from intentionally keeping themselves in lower rankings.

If rank was used instead of MMR, one could easily keep an account in Bronze solely by dodging promo games.

Instead of the current way, where they just troll/throw random games to keep their MMR low. This is not even remotely a valid reason to use MMR "instead" since we KNOW that people smurf and ae able to maintain accounts in lower elo with the current system. If anything, it'd be better because then Bronze 5 or whatever would be full of smurfs rather than ALL of low elo.

Not trying to be a dick, but how many times are you going to make this exact same thread? Its always the exact same thread with the words slightly jumbled around

i feel like if youre the type of person to make this kind of post multiple times, you should probably stop playing this game because you genuinely don't like it anymore. Unless its an obsession kind of thing.

Thats a nice theory you got there until you factor in that I havent lol.

Has riot confirmed this or is this just confirmation bias talking?

Because realistically, win streaks and loss streaks would happen anyway without interference, especially considering people can get confident after winning and tilted after losing.

RenownedWheat425 votes

The "confirmation" people give is that they get better enemies when they go higher up, thus forcing them back down if they can't win.

That or "muh team"

I was playing against challengers in d4 promos and winning. Then I got to d2 and magically didn't know how to play anymore ? Every game was 'sry, I got autofilled' and from a 60% win rate, I got to 52%.

darknuke7 votes

This happened to me a lot this season. I ended S6 plat 5. I started the season in silver 3 and was playing with all the plat players from the previous season. Was getting a shit load of LP per win and few per loss, so I got out of silver pretty quick, but once I got into gold, the streaks started to screw me over because my lp gains were evening out.

It is bullshit that if I win 5 games in a row in gold 5-4 that I have to start playing against low to high plat players. Yeah, I get that my MMR is supposed to be there, but how the hell am I supposed to actually get back to plat when I have to face plat players in a low elo. That basically doubles the difficulty.

The game really shouldn't do that. Let us escape our elos and get to the people we should be playing as fast as possible. The system doesn't encourage proper balance. I've actually played a LOT less ranked this season then I have the last 4. I'm not even back to plat yet (g3 currently). It's just discouraging having to win these really challenging matches just to escape an elo way below the people I'm playing against. It's this annoying tug of war with the balance system.

This is definitely an area Riot really dropped the ball.

Except for the fact that you do get harder enemies when you do better? I was in S3 with G5 MMR, and was getting G4 and G5 enemies with S2 and S3 allies. How the fuck is that fair? If I am being put up against golds, then I should be skipped to Gold instead of having to climb every ruing.

MysterQ1 votes

100% agree, except everyone will say but it is "MMR" balanced.

NiceTryVi1 votes

While the average MMR is technically the same, having a G4 go against a S3 in midlane, probably not gonna be a fair fight, even if your support is G4 and the enemy supp is S1.

MysterQ1 votes

I agree, but for some reason some people defend MMR. Heck I don't even think team MMR is averaged well when you see some games.

Blackstone018 votes

I've really never done ranked for fun. I've done it to reach gold for free rewards and then go dick around in ARAM and normals.

DevlinCrow5 votes

It is fun because it's competetive, that feeling you get when you make a good play, or the feeling when you know you fucked up. I love that bit.

The thing I DON'T like is something that Riot can't do shit about.

Playing against Plat smurf Master Yi who go 15/0/5 off the other lanes and then come to my lane and 3 hit me. The 0/8/0 Gangplank who keeps pushing without vision, gets ganked every single time and moans at our jungler. The dicks who afk troll at fountain because the enemy got first blood etc.

Nothing Riot can do, in fact I think they are fairly decent at balancing, my ARAM and normal win rates are within 5% of 50%, which is great.

MysterQ2 votes

Is a 50% WR great though?

I have no problem with 50% WR. I would like a higher WR of course, but 50% is fine. But I don't like RIot forcing players into 50% WR. You can say it is just because games are balanced, but there are some games that seem anything but balanced. Granted losses are way more complex than just champ select and skill. But I can recall a few games where all 5 "lanes" lose in <20minutes. I mean it happens. Maybe there was one smurf who pushed every lane well. Maybe it was 5 smurfs. Who knows. As long as most of my games aren't overkill I am fine. And as long as I am not losing every game, I am fine. I think 50 minute losses are usually fun games (but no one wants to lose everytime).

My problem is: I am/was Bronze but I am playing vs Silvers/Golds. That part of the system imo is unfun (being forced to play more games just to play them). And I wish it didn't matter as much; I know it doesn't matter that much. But the system and the rewards are there, so it matters to me. It is more fun if you can just play.

DevlinCrow5 votes

I think 50% win rate is perfect tbh but only if its 'natural'. If Riot are literally giving players impossible to win games to force 50% then I do not agree with that. Sometimes it does feel that way lol

optimalroat5 votes

hell fucking no.

i was g5 and did provisionals, and dropped down to b1, i was like 'no big deal, i've done this many times before, this'll be fun'

i'm no league god or anything i do make common mistakes, but, the amount of people that give up and troll in ranked stresses me out to the point where i dont even want to play the game again, everyone is mean, on edge, and i've never been insulted so much in my life, any mistake i make, i am told to commit suicide or something, ranked is nothing but a group of five people that are already on edge from their previous rounds and want to win so badly, they're willing to treat one another like trash, and instead of having a good time, they do the opposite.

i've stopped playing ranked because of how incredibly rude people are, because i'd like to have a nice and chill time playing league, not being ridiculed to the point where i'm literally told to commit suicide and that my whole family burns in a fire because i accidentally got caught out.

Come back down to Bronze, it's much more fun, and we have cookies!

GayFluffyUnicorn2 votes

It really is. Playing on my g5 smurf with a friend it's: Less toxic, more enjoyable, waaayyy better teammates surprisingly in tems of macro AND micro and it seems less stressed. Like a lot of high plats/dias moan when i pick gp mid against a full squishy team because "we need ap lulz" and down there noone says a word and just lets you play what you want.

48983507DEL14 votes

I mean, whenever I have a team willing to cooperate against a team who doesn't rage quit, it's actually really fun and competitive.

For me, at least, those kinds of games come in streaks. After about 5-6 close and intense games, usually resulting in victory, I get slammed with a big rush of uncooperative and toxic players. Not only do these games usually end with a loss, but they also tilt me tremendously and turn me into the type of player that make the game unfun for me in the first place.

This goes for any game, really; at least ones that are heavily team oriented. CoD, for example, doesn't feel like this because you can usually solo-carry games due to how fast you can kill a single person, but it also doesn't have the same level of satisfaction when all cogs grind together correctly.

This is the way League will stay for eternity, varying slightly depending on the meta champions and the pace of the game. Fortunately for us, the meta is ALWAYS shifting, and if you aren't happy with it now, you might like it better in a couple of weeks/months.

The matchmaking DOES seem atrocious this year, but I am still having fun.

P0IS0N IVY3 votes

Autofill seems to be a really big problem. Before when we were calling, you could at least tell people which role was your worst. Now, it's all decided by the system that only takes into account the top two roles you're best at with no consideration for your skill level in the other three roles.

MysterQ2 votes

The problem is in lobby teammates will troll you when you ask if anyone needs or wants a switch.

P0IS0N IVY1 votes

Those teammates would have likely found some way to troll either way. They're not the problem.

MysterQ1 votes

They absolutely are A problem. This is a team game, I can understand joking around, but trolling your own team is just idiotic. Go waste your own time.

P0IS0N IVY1 votes

Not the problem we are discussing here. Trolls exist everywhere. Autofill was a recent thing created by riot.

Look at my winrate. Look at it. Former high gold player (still trash, to clarify) is HARDSTUCK in silver 4-3. Every day. Fall in s4, back in s3. Make it to s2 then fall again. This is just.. i dont know. RNG fucks me up. I already wrote a story how these ... i dont know what they are... from our lovely company force the 50% winrate and it is SO FUCKING OBVIOUS. What, silver 4 is bonobo and silver 3 is god tier so i lose all games as soon as i hit 50% wr in silver 3. I feel like top lane has no impact on the game at all. Like what the fuck. When you stomp an enemy idiot on top it is still ok because their bot has 20 kills because our bot gave up after first blood. And. Oh. Not to mention 'i-play-for-fun' guy. I hate people like that. I truly hate them. That sentence tilts me even if i write it. I cannot be near those persons. If you play for fucking fun, play a stupid normal game, dont first time jungle and lee in my fucking ranked game because 'this is just a game and you play for fun'. When you check guy's op.gg he has 500 ranked games and still is silver 5, plays every champion always. I just cannot. I admit it, i play for rank, league cant be played for fun. Its not that kind of a game. I cannot carry on my own anymore... Doesnt matter how fed i am, people keep overextending with 0 fucking wards on a map. That is disguisting. What am i meant to do ? To coach them in game and tell them to ward. For a 'im not a support' or 'stfu noob i 8/3 u 4/6'. I used to enjoy playing ranked, but now, league has become a source of my anger.. This looks like a normal low-elo 'i deserve more' but i dont give a shit. Have a nice day

Hèntaî 2 votes

I know the feel. I cant seem to get out of lower silver anymore after I reached s2 with a 56% wr. Same thing happened last season too when I made it to s1 2 games away from promos to gold. Its rediculous and tbh it makes ya tilt hard a'f cause you know you are not challenjour tier but you also know that you are better than where you are placed at now. If that made any sense.

Always watched voyboy, one of the most positive streamers and players ever, and now even he looks like he's depressed most of the time playing ranked.

Speaking to that, I watched one stream lately where he voted to surrender, then kinda did a double take and said "What happened to the old Voyboy? He'd never have surrendered..."

I fully agree the game feels too one-sided right now. 2 of my last 8 ranked games ended before the enemy team could surrender. And that's Silver, where teams notoriously have a hard time closing out. I can't imagine having to play game after game like that in high elo.

I would honestly not enjoy ranked either if I played 186 ranked games on Soraka this season.

Why not both? That's what I do with nearly every match, no matter what mode.

ExternalLink2 votes

Forget Ranked, I barely enjoy the game anymore. Every play style and champion that I liked has either been reworked, nerfed to the ground, or is outclassed by other generalists/champions with overloaded kits. Apparently being one-shot from melee range is toxic, but being perma-cced, oneshot from ranged or 3-clicked by a lategame ADC isn't. Apparently you're not meant to be allowed to 1v5 carry because it's a team game - but my team just so happens to be comprised of randomers, a good proportion of which have, reportedly, fucked my mum at some point. And with each passing season, the impact of the best player is being increasingly outclassed by the impact of the donut on the team. I'll get Diamond, but then I'm out.

MysterQ2 votes

Make some friends and just play with them. It's a better experience.

KakitaMike2 votes

I think every online team game has this problem, because companies are still relying on solo player matchmaking ladders and not putting any time into dynamic team analytics. I hear the same complaints in overwatch, hots, vainglory, etc. Name a team game, and it has horrible competitive matchmaking.

Tormentula2 votes

All ranked is, is bragging rights. Plat/Diamond isn't what it used to be, high elo challenger games and LCS looks like dynamic queue silver.

If you're higher elo: you just get called boosted If you're lower elo: you're just called shit

Ranks mean nothing today, they're just self ego boosters. I personally hate playing ranked, but I do it anyway because people try harder than in norms so it actually feels like a game rather than who's team is actually trying.

Enjoyment? Fun? These concepts died off years ago. Gaming is all about vanity and being better than people now.
