Infinity edge is not the AD deathcap.

It's not. Stop saying that it is, it's insanely annoying. Let's compare their "similar" passives.

Rabadons deathcap grants 35% bonus AP, all the time. That Ap applies to non damage sources like shields, slows, ETC.

Infinity edge grants 50% more crit damage. Just damage, that still needs crit from other items to be effective.

The difference between the two is that Rabadons allows for bonuses to utility, not just raw damage. That might not sound like a huge difference but it really, really is a massive one.

I don't think you understand. The reason why they are compared is not because of the similarities, but their function.

IE's goal is to boost AD damage by a fuckton.

Deathcap's goal is to boost AP dmg by a fuckton.

It's about functions, not what they exactly do.

No. Deathcap also boosts AP scaling utility by giving an assload of stats, IE just grants bonus damage. Sure they both give damage, but rabadons also gives utility scaling, it's a huge difference.

what other stats does death cap give besides ap?

Woook3r1 votes

more ap

oSEXYPLATYPUSo2 votes

and IE gives ad and more damage on crit strikes making a target take more physical damage? so in essence more ad ?

Woook3r1 votes

except your abilities wont scale with that because you arent getting more ad. you are getting crit. does kalista's q scale with crit?

oSEXYPLATYPUSo1 votes

but adcs are ability based champs they are auto attackers and that is why they scale harder late game. by doing more damage by right clicking

when people say its the "ad deathcap", theyre talking about it being a core item for carries.

item 3089 core item for mages item 3147 item 3142 core item for ad assassins item 3071 item 3078 core item for bruisers item 3124 core item for on hit/as carries item 3031 core item for crit carries item 3285 core item for ap assassins

these items grant big time offensive stats that amplify their own stats and those from other sources.

It's true as a core item, but when you are talking about stats, uses, and itemization in general then they are not even close to the same.

Deathcap really seems to be outshadowed for a lot of mages these days though... You want so many defensive stats on mages just to survive all the utility, you'll barely see it being built before late game rolls around (unless it's core on certain mages, ofc). This is especially true for AP assassins.

honestly, mages shouldnt get too many defensive stats aswell as marksmen.

its their intended weakness to be squishy. and i found a lot of changes in the mage update, especially adding a whole lot of health available to their items very questionable.

mages excell at dealing damage from long range and bring enough utility to the game to stay relevant even when they cant kill their opponent. most of them are loaded with cc and even aoe cc isnt rare.

Let's assume you build 2 crit items. A 30% and IE, 20%.

IE increases your damage on a crit by 50% of your AD. With 50% crit, that's on average 25% of your AD per auto attack.

Assuming a 250 base damage .7 ap ratio skill, let's say you have 300 AP before deathcap's passive. 250+210 is 460

Accounting for deathcap's passive that's 35% more ap for 405. Your skill is going to do 74 more damage give or take. A 16% increase. So you're right, IE isn't AD deathcap. Deathcap -wishes- it was as potent as IE.

it's closer to being the crit version of deathcap if anything

carries that are spell oriented, or any juggernaut, doesn't really make use of it

"infinity edge grants 50% more crit damage. Just damage, that still needs crit from other items to be effective"

and guess what rabadon does? it gives you more ability power, just ability power that still needs ability power from other items to be effective!

tadaa!

It's funny because IE is a better item than Deathcap.
