If Hecarim gets nerfed because of his success in top

Visigoth··70 votes·6,344 views

You leave his jungling alone. If you nerf his Q damage, you better remove that decrease in damage to monsters then. If his W heal is nerfed, please let him heal more off monsters then.

Please don't do like you did to Maokai and weaken his jungling because his top lane was good. All I want is to be able to play Hecarim jungle again, because right now I can't because he's either banned or picked top.

On this weeks episode of FOTM nerf: Hecarim

This is why you never want to see your favourite champ suddenly appear in LCS games. Unless they are one of the designated #LCSBigPlays champs like Lee Sin, LeBlanc or Zed.

Finally see some diversity in LCS games and Hecarim sees some limelight and becomes FOTM and is IMMEDIATELY nerfed. No time given to see if people understand how to play against hecarim (most don't) Just immediately nerf it so we all go back to using the same pool of champions in the same stale roles again.

Forget the fact that in LCS teams that understood Hecarim's weakness were able to exploit it and shut him down.

I really really hope we don't see more Udyr in the LCS because that's the next FoTM nerf for sure.

He's losing HP5, his W sustain was buffed a while ago.

So it should be a mostly neutral change for jungle Hecarim. Even more so when/if the Machete regen changes go live.

An easy fix would be lessening his early game harass in lane by shortening the aoe of his Q so he can't hit you while also pushing the lane. It wont effect his jg clear at all while taking some of the pressure/pushing power he has in the 1-3 lvls in lane

Narasimha5 votes

That would also hurt his team fighting capabilities though.

AbodyHUN6664 votes

Even though he mostly focuses on instakilling the enemy carry, a bit shorted aoe wouldn't be that much of a nerf.

It could increase the range with each rank

The bad news (or good news for those who absolutely hate playing against Hecarim top) is that Hecarim has nerfs on the PBE. It's very likely, but not guaranteed, that he will be getting nerfs to him next patch.

I don't play Hecarim at all, but it does look like these changes are there to hit him as a top laner and not as a jungler, although I should probably just post the changes that are on the PBE for him and let the more experienced Hecarim players decide whether they hurt his jungling capabilities.

The changes:

Base Mana Regen per second down to 1.3 from 1.5 Base HP Regen per second down to 1.4 from 1.85

but not guaranteed

nonono.

nerfs are guaranteed if on PBE (unless you are Lee Sin), buffs aren't.

insaiyanbacca2 votes

i dont think you understand how it works, anything on the pbe is not confirmed at all riot can just take it off of pbe and never release it

DrCyanide1 votes

The patch cycle is every two weeks, and Riot has confirmed that there are lock in points before the release. Those Hecarim changes are basically patch notes at this point.

He needs nerfs he can just rrun at squishies and they cant do anything about it

Huh? The solution to not being squishy is to build a defensive HP/Armor item. Whenever I use hecarim or any other burst champ I absolutely hate it when the ADC's build a defensive item. Luckily most feel it is their divine right to build nothing but damage items no matter what and if they die its the games fault for not letting them survive burst damage in 5v5 fights with 1500hp and no armor at lvl 18.

You dont make sense but k? Most adcs and mages dont have room for a defensive item and even with it hec will displace them and 100-0 them. He completely ignores the front line same reason they nerfed kass.

insaiyanbacca2 votes

....just saying unlike kass hec doesn't have a blink hec actually has to run through your front line which means your tanky front can throw any snares roots or stuns at him and he wont be able to get past them, unlike old kass who would just use a blink way over the front line kill the carries then instantly blink back out

r11na1 votes

Most adcs and mages dont have room for a defensive item

All champs get 6 item slots and a defensive item can go in any one of them. What you really mean is ADC's and mages don't** want** to build a defensive item. Every other character class has to balance offensive and defensive items, seems you want ADC's to be able to build 100% offensive items, 100% of the time.

even with it hec will displace them and 100-0 them

Not true, unless:

  1. hec is ridiculously fed compared to the ADC (Any champ is OP if fed)
  2. Your team has no absolutely no CC (learn to pick/ban better)
  3. You have no wards whatsoever. (Upgrade your trinkets folks)

Hecarim has to run through enemy lines to get to squishy targets. Sure if hecarim just appears out of the fog of war right next to your ADC then there is little your team could do. Which is why you get map vision so you can position properly against him.

LOL i always wonder why a champion meant to jungle have reduced damage against monsters. I used him once and he seems pretty good. I like him. Only time will tell if Riot feels like nerfing him or not. imo he is just fine as is._ Any nerf_ will make him very rare to be played.

junglerboy162 votes

I hate what they did to Maokai, I never use him anymore because he kind of sucks in the jungle. His sustain is being nerfed, his damage has been nerfed, his ganks have been nerfed, and all because he is oppressive top lane. Riot should be able to figure out what makes a champion to good in a specific role and nerf that one aspect of their kit without crushing their original role.

That and his VU looks super derpy.

qetzel1 votes

Ideally, yes, you should be able to figure out what makes a champion good in a specific role. Real life then shows up and lets you know how difficult it is. Riot will probably do their best to keep him in the jungle, but in the end you do have to nerf around his most powerful position.

Silents4291 votes

I don't really like his VU

But what particularly is bad about him currently in the jungle? He clears well, His Q has great scaling and no increasing mana costs allowing it to be spammed when farming.

His W + Q Ganks are still crazy at lockdowns.

I am sorry but where is he suffering?

junglerboy161 votes

He isn't as bad as he was a couple patches ago (because Gromp and Cinderhulk), but his first clear is pathetic (always has been), he is very mana hungry without blue buff, and as a long time maokai jungler (started using him over a year ago as my first "main"), the W range nerf actually hurt his ganks a LOT. He NEEDS to have good early ganks or he doesn't really scale well into late game, and that range nerf when they reworked him hurt a lot.

Basically, Maokai isn't useless, he is just far less awesome as a jungler than he once was.

Silents4291 votes

His first clear isn't really that bad, nothing special but not bad. Better then Pre-Rework.

Mana hungry..? Wha? His Q is 45 mana all levels. You don't use your W or E for clearing. And your ganking shouldn't require you to be spamming abilities at all. I never needed the second blue.

His W range nerf was overpowered as hell, being able to root from so far, and gave plenty of time for whomever to drag you to a place you didn't want to be. It is still long enough to where you can position yourself in lane, especially if you use your Saplings slow to get in position correctly.

He NEEDS to have good early banks or he doesn't really scale well into late game

Pre work Maokai this would be true. Current Mao Kai doesn't fall off if he isn't ganking constantly. And I thoroughly played both versions. What they did to him was a positive change in every aspect.

junglerboy161 votes

I don't know why, but I cannot ever survive past the first 2 camps without using both pots and still being at less than 50% HP. Do you have any tips for the current Maokai that I could use? because what I've been doing with him just doesn't seem to work.

Silents4291 votes

For runes check page 2 http://www.lolking.net/summoner/na/38245683#runes

Masteries Page 1 http://www.lolking.net/summoner/na/38245683#masteries

I assume you know to throw 3 saplings at the gromp (Start throwing at 1:19)

Smite the gromp right away getting the buff, then beat it. Use 1 potion after killing it.

Go to blue.

Throw and Q. And make sure you are close enough with your Q to knock it back, then throw a saplings or Q whenever to get your passive off.

While you run to red use pot 2.

Proceed to murder red buff, only igniting when critical or when it reaches half health. By this point you SHOULD. Have enough health to gank a lane. If not clear another camp and upgrade smite.

I can't say if this is most efficient, I know it's what I have used most recently, but I haven't had issues with him doing it this way.

junglerboy161 votes

Thanks for the advice, I'll try him out like this.

People who complain about Hecarim top seem to have forgotten about Nasus andTrundle

Nasus: The guy Hecarim will never have the damage to kill and who will make him sad as Nasus slowly outscales him AND ruins half of Hecarim's teamfighting Trundle: Another guy Hecarim will never have the damage to kill and who will make him sad by drastically lowering Hecarim's durability and mobility with his ult and pillar

I've never lost to Hecarim top as one of these two. Hecarim jungle is a different story since for some reason the enemy Hecarim always manages preys upon my bot lane so even if I can out-duel him as one of those two, my bot lane's useless

I really really hope we don't see more Udyr in the LCS because that's the next FoTM nerf for sure.

The day Kassadin got destroyed when his ult got cut down to 450 range made me cry. Even if he got buffed the next patch, that was barely anything for all the other things they took from him because they wanted to keep his ult 700. Now he's got a shortened ult range AND his damage is weak compared to other assassins, AD Kass does AP Kass' job better now

Or when Veigar got destroyed because he was picked as a support in Korea

Or Sejuani

Next Viktor likely to be on the chopping block. He doesn't have the #LCSBigPlays abilities so I imagine he'll get nerfed pretty soon. I wouldn't be surprised

I love Udyr, but he's got clear weaknesses that'll keep him out of the meta for a while

In all my games every hecarim on my team lost there lane or the enemy team hecarim fed us.

This is after seeing more then 30 hecarim top lanes. My opinion or "Luck" they are not good top laners.

ayNigerianPrince1 votes

Well my guess would be they were just people that saw something about Hecarim being "god-tier" so they decided to try him (playing him super aggressive like most low-elo players I see), and you were just unlucky to be placed with them.

Salidfingers1 votes

I just dont see it. My friend says hec is annoying to go against in his games. He even spectated my games and doesn't know why every hec i play with just suck.

Right now this is gold 2,

People just do it because LCS or LPL or OPL does it. Just yesterday I saw a Shyvana top with smite teleport.

Hecarim seems to always find his way back to the top someway or another. He is like oncturne in that regard. Down but never out.

just as if nidalee gets strong in jungle you nerf her traps in jungle by LOWERING THE 150 DAMAGE CAP VS MONSTERS TO 50... NOT by reworking them to be 100% worthless vs players.. who unlike jungle moves are usually smart enough not to step on them in the first place, making the nerf that much worse. honestly Rito sometimes i just wonder...

Thefriendlyorc1 votes

They did the same to Sion, they'll do the same to hec.

Weretiger54111 votes

Personally im fine with how he is, yes he can be very strong on top but against someone who can be tanky and sustain? Hecarim would be hanging around a turret a lot more then(by my experience with him in the least).

ApplyForAGrant1 votes

I'm not disagreeing, but I'm curious as to what IS the appeal of Hec jungle over Hec top as such that even when Hec top has been meta for ages, no one in low elo picks him up still? I'm in Gold and half of the people I meet still see him as a jungler. I played Hec top once and it was fun as hell...

AbodyHUN6661 votes

I think they should rework his charge to have similar controls to Sion, but a lot more steerable. He shouldn't be able to charge it up by running in circles in a brush.

Hard Penetrator1 votes

I kinda understand you, Jarvan jungle was nerfed and I only played him top when he was fair pick against almost any melle champion.

But Jarvan didn't get compensated so...

PerishSoftly2 votes

I'm gonna be honest, I don't think a champ with such huge AD scaling AND a built in %maxArmor shred AND built in %currentHP shred, AND a shield, AND passive attack speed should also get passive armor.

The offensive/defensive stat discrepancy between Jarvan and other fighter/tank champions was completely insane.

Hard Penetrator1 votes

The thing is at top against Riven, Irelia, Sion, Rumble, Liss, Gnar, Jax or Mao he was actually balanced. I won't argue about Jarvan being too strong in the jungle because it was a fact. Top however is a different lane, different champs, different rules.

warpenguin5551 votes

wait. your team actually BANS Hecarim? i get flamed when i tell people to do that...

blubabby1 votes

Assuming they don't get changed, these nerfs are pretty minor in the end... You end up with a bit less mana and hp after your clear and damage sticks to you slightly better in top lane.. his strengths are still there, it's just he's slightly squishier now in lane which is good if he's building damage. EDIT: I'm not disagreeing that these nerfs are pretty unwarranted coming out so soon, I just don't think they're major or really address the snowbally nature of Hecarim.

CoolKnightST1 votes

He's still in the top 5 junglers in Solo Q so I fear he will get some kind of sustain nerf I guess.

Aboylova921 votes

I've owned him for a while, but rarely played him for some reason. However with my champion getting seemingly picked more (Zac), I've been trying out different junglers, and have really started to enjoy playing him. I understand his top lane is strong, but I don't even really want that to go away. Tone it down fine, but it's nice to see different picks in different lanes. It's kind of why Naut support is cool as it's just a different pick than the normal Thresh, Leona, Janna, ect.

Silents4291 votes

Hecarim top isn't that big of a threat?

Beat him as Yorick Beat him as Gangplank Beat him as Volibear

Yorick had a tough time but I ended up making the horse my bitch.

I doubt he will receive anything that will affect anything. And honestly, his Jungle clearing kind of sucks anyway.
