After 45 games I have a 38% win ratio

I have no idea what happened between the matchmaking but at this point I think it’s fair to say my game qualities have been utter garbage compared to last season and the seasons before.

Never in my life in my 6 years playing have I ever started out a season with a negative win ratio.

It’s not like I’ve been playing bad either, this quality of my games are just straight up horrendous with multiple people feeding every game.

What on earth is going on?

It's a damage meta with super easy cheese mechanics. For example, Renekton is not a mechanically-intensive champion, but he's one of the strongest top laners that does OMG AMAZING BURST LITERAL ONE-SHOT (bold references YouTube highlight channels) to easily get ahead. 90% of the impact for who wins happens in the early game.

renek isnt that strong compared to other tops but it is a damage heavy snowball meta there is virtually no way to comeback unless you get heavy jungle pressure that being said if yu can start a counter snowball its just as hard as the original snowball

So many games where people straight int before the game even gets to 5-10 minutes. Had a top laner that died level 1, then TPed back and died again as soon as he got back, then left the game. Had another game where my ADC was trading with a support Karma that accidently stole red buff and was yelling at me...Like, all he had to do was not trade early and let the enemy jungler be super behind since he didn't get red buff but instead of ADC all in's and dies and then rage quits the game level 3.

Just feels like no one wants to actually try or win Also so many people that just first time champs in ranked...these are high plat/low diamond games... Like, you'd think they'd try at least a little to get their Diamond.

Sounds exactly how my entire season went last year.

IMHO, a player shouldn't be allowed to take a champion into a ranked game unless they have substantial experience with that champion.

How do you define that though? There are Champions I've played a handful of games on that I'm mastery level 2 on that I do much better with than Champions I'm mastery level 5/6 with. There are Champions I know how to play from before the mastery system even existed, that I don't even have mastery 1 on right now.

E.g. the only time I play support is when filled. I pick Leona when I'm support. If Leona were picked/banned - I don't exactly have a fallback. I COULD play whatever champion I've drawn in ARAM (an option most don't have), or a tank I play top Lane, or a mage from mid Lane. However I'd imagine none of those are as optimal as playing Morgana - the support I used to pick into Leona in season 4 when dynamic queue wasn't a thing. I haven't played her in ages, but she's still a good counter and would likely be our team's best chance at winning. Yet in any proposal I've ever seen to require experience to play ranked, I wouldn't be allowed to pick Morgana.

There could be a rule that in order to play a champion in ranked, you must have played either minimum 20 SR games on that champion in the current season, or 100 SR games on that champion in previous seasons.

Agreed, Riot should make it so that you must play an M5 champ in ranked. Because I have had the same problem, and I started season 8 out with an 80% Wr, this year is started out lower than 50%. Just because a person fed, quit, tilted, or straight up trolled. My second last Zoe game, I was so ahead, but my team feed and was so titled that I could not carry them, even at my best.

sounds like every game of ranked i played in season 6

I've noticed a drop in game quality too. I thought it was just another losing streak, but the way people in my games play is just so extremely off.

Maybe early-season MMR is struggling to place a lot of people where they belong?

All games are a Stomp one side or the other. Its total trash.

Since a long time ago. Therefore, it's intentional, and that's even worse.

Season 9 is a fck-fest. There's no hope for it.

It's a cosplay of Season 8. As it was obvious.

I had a 17/3 Camille and a 1/13 brand in the same team. Wtf is going on

Being on both sides of the score spectrum you described, it boils down a lot to whom you're matchmade against + jungle.

I started 3/18 once, Been a low diamond hardstuck ever since I started league (im on a smurf account rn so don't bother trying to look this one up) yet riot feels the need to force me through the elo gulag (plat) every season.

Stop changing champions like clothes? Stick to just a few champs to master them? Also u play mainly support, so you are at the whims of ur ADC's skill level. And before you tell me that you have probably learned the champs in past seasons, pls keep in mind that the meta changes constantly, and you might niot be used to playing the champs in this new meta. Also remember something very important but very hard to accept: sometimes our favorite champs become trash. At that point you have 2 choices: stick to the champs and have a bad time, or change the champs you mainly play.

Tobykachu3 votes

I've looked at your match history and it seems like you play a lot of support and, as a support main myself, I can confirm that the meta really doesn't favour the bot lane at the moment, unless you have an adc that can snowball hard like Lucian, Ezreal or Draven. I've played several games this season where I've hard stomped lane with ADC's such as Kai'Sa, only to get absolutely demolished mid game because of a fed top/mid/jungle.

Yep I can do very well as a Support but its worse then a coin flip if I get a ADC that has a brain. If I get one that is around my rank (in skill) we STOMP. If I dont then the lane is lost and I have to move to a APC role.

If someone can have a 62% win ratio over dozens of games, then someone can have a 38% win ratio over dozens of games.

This is so true

I started out with low winrate playing my main Bot, but then I switched to jg and had better success

MMRs are all mixed at the beginning of the season, but it's so easy to carry as an assassin

Zeppelins circus1 votes

I play Velkoz support. now I found out my enemies don't even TRY to dodge my bullets...

Now I know why people complain about brand in low elo...

BigFBear1 votes

Yeah same here. As Voli Jungle: Last Season/Preseason 55-60% winrate on Dia 5 MMR. Now 45% winrate in Plat 4 after 50 games.

Starcraft243ver1 votes

I've got two theories :

  • At the begining of the season the ladder is way more competitive than in the middle of the season (a lot of people rush to diam), but there are also a lot of player doing stupid things and not carring about victories at all. When you play a champion that can solo carry you can abuse these players nearly inting to get fed and win. When you play nami, you can't get these free victories out of these players (well you can but it's harder).

  • I see you play full ignite, ignite has been heavily nerfed, maybe you did not realize this and so you are playing with a suboptimal set of summoners for your healing champions pool.

It's probably the new positional ranking kicking in.

Applemilkshakes1 votes

I think it has a bit to do with a combination of the new positional ranking system interacting with the standard beginning of season ranked chaos.

For starters the new lp protection that occurs during the initial placement games has incentivized some players in my games to not really care how it goes. I had a teammate literally say "whatever I'm in placements so doesn't mater." I like the lp protection in theory but it seems that there is the other side to it where people abuse the mechanic that is supposed to make placements less stressful, MORE stressful for other players.

Also I think that Riot has really pushed the idea of ranked much harder at the start of season 9 than they have done previously with things like the Awaken cinematic. Moreover, they have been targeting players that may have not been as into ranked previously and are highly encouraging players to play SPECIFICALLY at the start of s9, bringing many more players into the start of season fold.

While there's nothing wrong with players new to ranked as a whole, I do think a lot of players new to ranked exhibit a form of performance anxiety and may play much worse than they normally do in norms. This or they get tilted to infinity after a few placement games since they may think they deserve to be placed much higher.

MaxJT1 votes

I have no idea what is going on. I one trick Karthus for many years, my win ratio normally stays around 56%. But this season I just keep losing no matter what, and end up lowest win ratio 41% I ever had.

Daddy Ants1 votes

There's absolutely no way that all your games are the fault of others.

You seem like you're in denial.

Silverfang Blade1 votes

I'd say give it another week for the trolls to go back under the bridge. Naturally, with a huge population increase with S9 starting up, there's going to be a noticeable increase in the amount of garbage you encounter :/

Keep in mind that some of your losses might have been your fault too. Half my losses from Ranked atm were genuinely because I played like trash and made bad calls. The rest could be chalked up to a complete collapse or trolling on my team (AFK Caitlyn with six Culls, that kind of bad).
