Will Riot actually do a Fighter update mid-season 8?
- Marksmen Update Patch 5.22
- Assassin Update Patch 6.22
- Mage Update Patch 6.9
- Tank Update Patch 7.9
- Fighter Update 8...?
The Fighter class is the elephant in the room. They are the largest and most diverse class, yet the vast majority can only go into one lane - Top. This is also where all the misfits from every other class go (Quinn, Akali, Heimer, etc.) which creates a pretty crappy experience for them (S/O to Hashinshin and co). They've had chronic itemization problems that span multiple seasons (Atma's was removed in Season 4); they need a huge variety of items to deal with the huge variety of laners in Top, all while keeping the items balanced and without having Assassins and Marksmen abusing them. And most recently they don't even have a keystone to call their own.
After the tank update Riot announced that they don't plan on doing class updates anymore- which is a very_ interesting _ decision given the class that was bound to be next. I honestly can't blame them either, given the huge ass multi-seasonal mess that Fighters and Top lane is. However the fact is Riot really can't ignore the problem anymore. They know changes need to happen. They're already testing Grasp changes, BC changes, and Irelia and Aatrox are 2 of the 3 next champion gameplay updates.
Will Riot actually address the huge ass problem that is top lane and the Fighter class (which I would say includes Divers, Juggernauts, and Skirmishers) this season? Do they even have a choice in the matter?
