Champion.gg - Karthus Top Stats, Builds, Runes, Masteries and Counters

So when you click this link your going to look down at "Percentage by games played" and notice that it actually goes down the more experience you have on him and i'd just like this to be explained to me because i just don't understand.

It's still very weird, how could playing a champion more make you worse XD

you tilt harder and harder for every game you lose because you should'nt play karthus top

Karthus top has one of the highest winrates right now.

That's why i thought it would make an interesting discussion topic.

karthus top has a 0.23% pick rate from players from platinum+. Plat+ are the top 10% players of the ladders. 0.1*0.0023 = 0.023% of the whole game having that much success with karthus top. thats basically like a one trick pony or a couple one trick pony's statistics mixed in the sample.

I was just curious because almost every other champion get's higher win percentages the more you play them. Meaning there is reason to play them and to main them because you grow as a player but karthus doesn't.

Awhegark2 votes

But he does, idk why you are trusting a win percentages websites more than you would trust yourself to getting better at a champion.

If you play a lot of karthus your win rate is gonna get bigger, this is a no brain question.

Itankyou2 votes

Ya it just means that on average, people who play karthus suck at him but for the few that play him occasionally (i.e. better players in general) they do well with him.

As this statistic show's that's apparently not the case. Which is what this thread is about so please click the link and see.

I know what this thread is about, and yes it still is the case, reread what I wrote.

Exactly. If you have 50 games of Karthus but you only played 1 game a month then of course your win rate is not gonna be very different from the first day you played him. You will still have better knowledge of the champion though. Which means that when you try to play him consistently again, your win rate will go up much faster.

But karthus top has a 53% winrate, one of the top 10 currently, the thing that's curious is apparently playing him more, which you say would make you better, actually doesn't in regards to top lane at least.

Of course it's a no brainer that having more experience on a champ in a given role SHOULD increase your winrate but in this case it apparently doesn't and i just wanted to discuss it. Like it drops from 80 to almost 30, that's pretty extreme.

When you become more aware of Karthus' passive and how powerful it is, and how his kit performs when you just stop caring about your HP, you start to lean on it. You bask in the double/triple kills you get all game. You fling your champion into death again and again. Until your K/D is 18/25.

I've seen it time and time again.

When you get good at Karthus, you actually stop caring about winning (even if you keep it in your mind and try to push it to the front) and more about reveling in as much carnage as possible.

In a lane like top, where you aren't up against as many squishies, Karthus can't rely on the cheese elbow room nearly as much. You have to start playing him like a normal ranged top laner, which goes against Karthus' very being and how people like to play him.

So there's a bit of a dissonance that can create a pitfall for even experienced Karthus players

That's my two cents

It only pulls data from 800 games so there is a LOT of random variance since few people play karthus top. The number of people that play karthus top with that much experience (125+games) is probably small (1-3) enough that a single persons winrate significantly effects the data. Other champions like ash have about 90,000 games to pull data from so a single person is still a drop in the bucket.

Also there is the effect that everyone's winrate eventually hits 50% as they reach the rank they belong in. Someone that has mastered a champion will have a high winrate initially as they are now better, but this will fall back down to 50% as they climb the ranks and face harder opponents.
