Lucian W is a really cool trick shot that gets outclass by the rest of his kit...

Lucian W was originally designed to add some damage to his kit. It originally had AD scaling and a lot of depth to it. As an AP Lucian main, I've come to realize those subtle quirks and details about his W that goes unnoticed by the vast majority.

Landing this skill takes some mastery because if the target is in close range, you can easily miss due to how thin the hit box is. On the other hand, the cross pattern at the end makes it hard dodge when it burst. Simply side stepping the cross pattern sometimes still results it getting hit because of the cross shape, making it a trick shot as Lucian himself sometimes quotes. This part tof the W is so satisfying to land.

There is more depth to this skill. Catching players off guard by hitting them with just the tip of the cross pattern after combining it with his E and WR to extend the range. You can also walk up to players is a brain dead fashion, fire off W and use E at the same time to dodge back while dodging their counter attack. The W also helps him move to land his ult.

And like the rest of his kit and the part most players are interested in, the W procs his passive also.

As I said, there is a lot of depth to his W. It is honestly one of the most satisfying skill shots in the game IMO.

Landing that trick shot can be rewarding, but currently, there isn't much of a need to. All players care about when it comes to Lucian W is getting his passive proc. Actually landing it is an after thought.

As I've played Lucian for years, one thing that is common for all Lucian player whether AD or AP, is he falls of hard late game. He doesn't do as much damage as other ADCs nor does he have AOE damage like them. He is a 1v1 kinda guy.

In any case, I think adding a small damage amp of maybe 20% increased damage to targets marked by his W would really give players a reason to land his W, while helping his late game.
