Why is Grievous Wounds so easy to obtain?

Seriously. It's on the #1 purchased item for AP mid laners, and not even because of the GW but because it's just good all around. It costs 800 gold for anyone AD to get their hands on it, and they don't even have to be low. All they have to do is auto attack, and bam GW for three whole seconds.

I can understand why GW is in the game. It just makes playing healing champs so damn unfun. I wish riot would have balanced healing in the game without GW.

What? GW shuts down Soraka. If the ADC quickbuys executioners calling, that shuts down Soraka on trades, and all ins.

I dont know how you could misunderstand something so straight forward but i said "GW should not be a problem to soraka". Hence, "soraka should have some kind of rework/buff against gw on her kit".

fyi, that's not straightforward. It can be interpreted two different ways very easily.

Oh I thought you were saying something like "to good Soraka players, gw means nothing" or something.

Agreed... if anything, sustain should be stronger in combat than out of it. They were probably scared of draintanking being too effective, though, and I can't say I disagree...

some things that come to mind with this question of why it is so easy to obtain GW,

  1. a lot of hyper carries in this game usually build some sort of life steal item early, master yi, fiora, vayne, there's more of corse but those are the ones that immediately come to mind. In order to prevent these champions from getting really big really early, (before they should be big) we need a cheap item that you can get in the early game to keep pace with the insane amount of life steal some of these champions get.

  2. As far as I know, item 3123 is not in any champions recommended build, and so people don't actually know about it unless they've done some research or have played a little while. (you will almost never see this item built in bronze/silver, and it is still rare to see in gold, not sure about plat+)

  3. The base stats of the item are not that good, its basically just a slightly more powerful long sword. (a little math to follow / illustrate point)

a long sword costs 350 gold and gives+10 attack damage

800 (cost of executioners calling) - 350 = 450

So for 450 gold, you are purchasing, 5 attack damage, and the Grievous wounds ability. The item then only has ONE build path, so you are have no flexibility at all with item build with regard to this item.

As for GW on mages, I don't play mages so i'm not gonna try to justify it there =p

because

Swain Warwick DrMundo Soraka Fiora Volibear

You need more reasons? because last time i check i wouldnt want a swain to just heal any damage you do to him while he damage you..no no that unfun at least GW offers a counterplay and the item you build is not even good in some champions but some times you are forced to take it because you are against a swain mundo soraka so yeah
