Before you call a champ "OP", ask yourself these 10 simple questions.
With "Worlds" going on right now there are quite a few champ getting a lot of hate that are not really needed.
And while i am surprised at the number of people on the forums actually willing to defend some of these champs. i feel that the people who do call them OP need to at least look up a few things to see if there isn't a really simple balance reason as to why they can do what they do.
so first things first
-
Why do u think the champ is op? did the champ just 1v5? did they solo carry the game? did they solo baron? are they freaking impossible to face in lane? ask your self why do think said champ is "OP"
-
Was the champ fed? this seems obvious... but if they champ had a 3k gold lead on you... chances are... they are going to beat you... there really isn't anything strange about that..
-
What is the champ designed to do? if you an ADC and you are all alone in the open.. and a
comes and 1v1s you.. is he OP?
if you are getting sieged and the enemy
melts your tower in 3 seconds.. is he OP?
if you are at baron and your all low.. and the enemy
comes in and gets a penta kill. is she OP?
ALL of those champs are doing EXACTLY what they are meant to do. -
does that champ just plain counter what you are playing? if you are going to pick
into
, don't complain he is OP.
this may not be the most extreme hardcounter example but it is certainly the most well known
learn who counters you, try to avoid picking your champ into them. -
how good is the other player compared to you? if you are silver.. and your opponent is diamond, don't expect to go even with them this generally wont happen in ranked games, but it quite a common occurrence in unranked you can easily look this up
-
how good is that player at their champ? i dont want to scream "1 trick". but if you get destroyed by a player who is the same elo as you. are they on thier main? i mean if you are trying out a new champ and they are on thier lvl 7 200k mastery main.. it's not really even.. again you can easily look this up
-
did it happen to YOU? most of the time this really isn't an issue for these boards, but right now during worlds.. i think it is.. just because the best players on the world can do something with a certain champ.. doesn't mean anyone you are ever going to face can. i mean it should go without saying that the worlds best player.. can do things with champs no one else can.
-
Are you ignoring ignore statistics you don't like? if you are bronze 4 or 5, and you are screaming "
" is OP.
well is IS very good in that elo.. but higher up he isn't OP
likewise... a champ may be CRAZY OP in higher elos. but if they are worthless at lower elos they may not be "OP" in general.
the biggest mistake i see people make is they only look at sites that only look at plat+ champ data to form their opinion.
there is a really good book called "how to lie with statistics". -
do you know how to face that champ? again back to the basics, do u know how the enemy champ works? most champs have a LOT of counterplay if you know where to look for it. and some of it may not always be available in a 1v1 lane. for example one of the best ways to stop certain champs is to prevent them from doing somthing. for example
, if you let him farm 300 stacks in 15 min. you created the issue.
dont feed the
..
you need to recognize what a champ can and cant do.
is pretty much ALWAYS going to outrange you in lane, and if you arn't on a champ that can easily deal with that, how can u stop him.
introducing: junglers
champs that are really good at one thing are usually very weak at others...
is pretty much immobile, and can be ganked VERY easily. -
have you even tried that champ? obviously the first time you play up a champ you are not going to be able to pull off moves like faker. but even playing that champ for one or two game can give you a LOT more respect for a champ. even with ONE game, even in bots!! you can easily find certain issue that the players who play that champ face you may never even have considered. a lot of the time this can be something as simple as "wow this champ eats up a LOT of mana really fast", or "wow that skill has a really high cooldown if i can bait it out i can win a trade vs them". or other simple things such as holy SH*T! how they freaking hell can u clear the jungle with this champ without getting executed? i thought they were easy mode?
This list by no means will prove a champ OP or not OP, but it consists of basic thing you shoold do before calling a champ "OP"
