Urgot would be far more balanced as a Magic Damage AP Tank

Than an AD Bruiser Tank Marksman monstrosity

Same general playstyle, healthier builds and balance paths, already kinda looks the part anyway.

Ranged AP Bruiser is actually pretty damn unique. I can't think of very many that fit this. As a ranged AD bruiser he is outclassed by Jayce in every way and as an AD Caster Carry he is destroyed by Graves/Sivir/Ezreal/Lucian etc.,

Give him an entirely unique niche by just switching all of his stuff to AP and Magic damage.

Make his new passive lower magic resist on the target and deal bonus magic damage on-hit. Make his E magic damage DoT + slow + greivous wounds instead of shredding Armor or MR. Give his W Mana and Health ratios instead of AP and possibly even give it Armor + MR when activated instead of slowing on Q and Autos.

Urgot also look at him. He already kinda has the same motif as Maokai and various other AP tanks. One look at him and I go "he must be like Gragas and Maokai, an AP caster tank right?"

It would also make him much less unique. He just needs an ult that actually works with his kit.

His ult is the only relatively unique thing about his kit.

What other ranged AD casters are there? I can't think of any...

Jayce/Sivir/Graves?

As a ranged AD bruiser, he's not completely unique, but he is unique in that he's the only ranged AD bruiser that doesn't have a melee transformation. Gnar's the other ranged AD bruiser.

But we already have several ranged AP bruisers. Ryze and Vlad are natural AP bruisers, while Heimer and Azir are better off building bruiser than super-squishy-the-enemy-support-can-solo-kill-them-through-their-entire-combo builds.

He's kinda the only variant of what he is. I am intrigued by the concept of playing him. I do agree that he needs a buff of some kind though.

They are looking to rework him soonish.

An ult that works with his kit and a less terrible range on his auto attacks.

His ult works with his kit if he was an AP champion.

But that is what Riot wants from him! he is a monstrosity that shouldn't exist, just like his lore! /Sarcasm.

On a serious note, I think making him an AD tank is still just as viable as making him an AP tank. They just need to make his shield scale off of a meaningful stat, not AP.

being AP they can keep his kit in tact, if they want to make him an AD Tank they have to outright change half of it.

Quite frankly, I'm happy with Urgot's entire kit, only thing I wish they would do is give him some mana scaling on his shield, because currently the shield is only good for getting the permaslow in but since tripping on a stone breaks it, well, kinda ineffective in a team fight. As well as make his passive more noticeably helpful, and not by buffing it, but just by making it clear to the player how much damage it is mitigating. I have a feeling most people think Urgot's passive is something like "restore's mana on unit kill" or something, instead of the poppy-ish passive he actually does have. The recent changes to his Q (projectile speed, mana refund, swirly swools), AA speed, along with the lock on range, really helped him out, I think he's in a decent spot.

I rarely use his ult to initiate a teamfight, it's more useful (to my playstyle) to catch somebody out and drag them into my team than it is to dive 1v4 while my team 4v1's. Only time I use it to dive a team is when I have a Malphite or something on my side that can go in with me.

I wouldn't say no to some general damage buffs though. Relying entirely on Q and AA's for damage (and I guess E's dot, but it's barely noticable in most cases) is fine, but you'd think a anti-carry would scale a bit better into the late game. Buuut I don't think he's as weak and useless as people always say.

Just my personal opinion as an Urgot player, not diamond or anything impressive.

Anti-Carry really can't exist in the game.

How come? The thing Urgot is best at is bypassing the tanks and front line to target the ADC or APC, whether by being an artillery monster or an In Your Face DPS Bruiser, all while ignoring the tanks, something ADC's can't do assuming the enemy team has competent positioning and APC's have to work around. And with Urgot's 2 damage reductions (his passive and his ult), he can easily out trade the enemy carries assuming they're not incredibly fed or Urgot isn't incredibly behind. Bring Exhaust (because honestly, just use Exhaust on Urgot, it's hilariously useful and straight up better than Ignite late game) and you have 3 damage reduction tools to use. From what I can tell, Urgot exists almost entirely to give the enemy carries a bad day.

I meant that it can't exist while being viable and balanced.

Urgot's identity isn't that he is Urgot, its that he counters ADCs (or used to), thats not good for the game anyway. League doesn't believe in just straight up class vs class domination countering mechanics, or anything remotely similar. Urgot should destroy a lot of ADCs because his kit naturally counters their play patterns not because he was directly made to counter their very existence.

But what about Assassin's then? Don't they exist solely to counter carries from a pure damage output method? And well, if Urgot was problematic from a "OP" side of the spectrum, he'd definitely be getting competitive play. Urgot's position as an "Anti-Carry" is also rather unique to him. I guess you could say Poppy is an Anti-Carry as well, with her ult and all, but it's much different due to there being a lot of counter playagainst Urgot as opposed to no counterplay against Poppy. So, excluding Poppy because Poppy is well, broken, Urgot's place in the Anti-Carry role is fine because "his kit naturally counters their play patterns not because he was directly made to counter their very existence." Basically, what I mean to say is, Urgot doesn't fit into the current meta's main roles, so he is given a role based on his current play style, which is similar to a Anti-Carry type thing. And it's definitely not super consistent, Vayne, Gangplank, Zed, Yasuo, maybe Ahri, he definitely has counters in the carry department.

Though if I do recall correctly, this wasn't Urgot's main purpose when he was released, he was designed to be an ADC or some such but he was made WAAAAY too powerful, which lead to him getting severely nerfed, so players had to find a new way to play him. I'm not too keen on the details of old Urgot though, while I did start playing way back then, it was on and off. I don't recall if Urgot was super OP when I was first playing or before that.

Assassins exist to eliminate targets, just so happens that Carries end up being the easiest thing to eliminate.

what ?? no, just no, he's the only ranged, tanky AD caster, lane bully, adc counter I can think of

and if you said something about unique, i am sure most of urgot players, will say his E+Q combo what makes urgot, what makes him difference, his ult just a bonus and I even saw some urgot players (in urgot rework thread) said urgot's ult isn't match with his kit
