Targeted spells can be balanced. Just not when you also go "Durrrr let's make them have hard cc. And hit hard with negligible cooldowns at early levels so melees can't lane. And hit harder at late levels so the character hyperscales. And give a character that has them an ability that lets him disengage whenever something tries to all in and stop the endless stream of poke. And let's make that ability sustain back off the wave afterwards."

Eh, not sure how that applies here. Disjoint works in DoTA becuse of how accessible it is. Hell, ANYONE can buy an item that makes them invisible. That's not something likely to pop up in League.

Its less of a ''can it be'' and more that click and point spells are, currently, a necessity for the game. The more Riot Nerfshot reworks champion, the more mobility breaks itself, to the point where EVERYTHING will be a skillshot and inmobile champions will be crapped on by poorly designed/regulated hyper mobility.

At that point, the game is dead.

I won't debate that, to a degree, point-and-click spells are necessary.

But there are very few mobile champions that make skill shots hard to land.

Unfortunately, all it takes is a few. People make that the meta and those will pop up every game.

Fun fact; those few mobile champions that make skill shots hard to land are not strong in the current meta.

One of them has been bashed with nerfs because of their heavy Crit focus being imbalanced (and that being indirectly due to Crit itself being poorly balanced by today's standards, but that's a long story).

One of them was a constant target of complaint on the boards, then suddenly everyone stopped talking about her because tank meta made Vayne much more viable instead.

And the last one I know...she's been kinda mediocre for a long time due to nerfs. The forum complains about her as much as they do about Akali; random bursts of "OMG OP" in between months of silence.

Of course, I refer to Yasuo, Kalista and Riven respectively.

Yes, other champions have strong mobility, but those are the only ones that really have consistent high mobility.

I will argue that the only reason those fell out of the meta is simply because they were nerfed accordingly and for quite a while they were completely unfun to play against. Kalista even still fits in the meta, being able to avoid CC and kite those big, bulky tanks (also with %hp health and a nice execute for actually killing them)

Yasuo was nerfed, yes, mostly due to his damage being based on the poorly-balanced Crit system--that is, Crit Chance and the system is imbalanced, not Yasuo's passive--but Riven hasn't even been touched for what amounts to a full season's worth of patches.

And I didn't say Kalista was irrelevant in the meta, but other tank-shredders became more relevant because of how the tank meta functions. Burst %HP doesn't quite beat consistent %HP with CC.
