S9 - Best Varus Builds & Runes Guides :: U.GG

Living Vengeance (Passive) Bonus attack speed ratio on champion takedown reduced to 30% bonus attack speed from 50%. Bonus attack speed ratio on minion or monster kill reduced to 15% bonus attack speed from 25%.

Blighted Quiver (W) Passive base damage reduced to 5 / 9 / 13 / 17 / 21 from 10 / 14 / 18 / 22 / 26.

Stats Base health reduced to 499 from 549. Health growth increased to 89 from 86.

item 3124 is nerfed, it has lost stats, lost the scaling on its on-hit passive, it doesn't grant AD, AP per stack anymore and Phantom-Hit doesn't proc as often anymore. Varus can't abuse current item 3124 as hard as he did back then, his W on-hit damage doesn't need to remain gutted anymore and his passive needs to scale harder to be worth something.

The base stats nerf is ridiculous. Varus is the most vulnerable ADC right there with Kog'maw. There's literally no justification as to why other marksmen who scale better than Varus and have safer laning phases (Jinx, Xayah anyone?) get better base stats.

Part of the reason why his base AD isn't higher is because of his W passive on-hit damage and you went in and shaved off 5 damage from it anyways with no compensation.

Varus is in a sorry state on the ladder, for a champion that is only played by 3% of the population (which means its only people that enjoy him) he isn't performing well enough, mainly because of all the unnecessary nerfs he has sustained. Guinsoos was the issue and you nerfed it now you should look into improving the champions that pretty much got half their kits nerfed to make up for it. You can get rid of the W active if you'd like, a 40 second CD ability does not make up for losing so much.

Varus is a champion from those times, when most champions had multiple viable build paths. Varus used to have/still have:

  • on-hit build
  • lethality build
  • AP build

His on-hit build is currently the most viable. The lethality build is basically non-existent right now and the AP build is done for fun, it isn't viable on longer term. He never really benefitted from crit items unfortunately. One of his problems is that right now we have Kaisa who has the similar hybrid style, except hers is better, because her abilities also scale with AP, while Varus' Q and E scale with AD and his W with AP. Overall Varus is still an efficient champ, because he is a better lane bully than Caitlyn, however like Ashe, he also has horrible MS, so you can't kite with him at all. The champion needs a small kit overhaul, because currently there is just no reason to pick him. And this is coming from someone, who used to main him for 2 years.

Rageblade should be more of a stat item than this on-hit monster item that causes more issues than solutions. As for Varus, he needs to synergize with crit more. Outside of Q, he doesn't do a lot of damage unless he procs his W passive at 3 stacks.

I just simply think his 3 Stack Blight Detonation with Abilities Mechanic is just not effective and too overall weak in comparison to other X stack Mechanics.

Idk this Champ is just not enjoyable anymore or that rewarding from my experience.

I just want Q snipe Varus back. I loved playing that.

I'd rather get the cooldown on Q back from when they decided that varus had to be built with attack speed.

Also just to add another thought, which came into my mind: Varus is just an extremely flexible pick, which you just never can get wrong. He is extremely safe, he has multiple builds, he benefits from a lot of playstyles, so basically he barely has an unfavourable matchup. He can also nuke his opponent with the blight stacks and ultimate, but his core issue is that he requires a team to play around him, and that is why he isn't really good for Solo Q, but still present in pro play.

The problem isn't that Varus is weak, it's that Kaisa is absurdly strong. The former has to choose, what he should build, the latter can build both AD and AP, because her abilities scale with both. And that's a huge issue.
