whether or not you choose to support as a primary or secondary, unless you use it as the 5th excluded role option. you will likely end up getting it once and a while.
i am writing this AS a support. in fact adc is the ONLY role i don't do. and will be my exclusion when the option is available.
so this is not your ADC telling you how to play.
this is your fellow support telling you.. how to play the role correctly, even if you don't know it very well.

unless you have determined that your ADC is SOO bad that you would be better off in a 4v5 dont take the CS.
most adc do not even want you even HIT the CS. but if you know how to do it properly you CAN
aka using 
to get multiple Cs low so your 
ADC can use his 1 grenade to kill all of them.
at the same time though make sure he KNOWS why you are hitting them.
Note: if you adc has backed.. and the CS is going to die to minions.. take it... its free gold if the adc is NOT within range to take the Cs before it would die to the minions or a tower... just take it
- vision is KEY
try to grab a ASAP
being able to place 3 wards after every back, is extremely important. also.. wards last LONGER than
not only do u have more.. but the last longer.
but even BEFORE you grab a sightstone (which is normally your 2nd back) GRAB A
(formerly pink ward)
and any decent adc will grab one as well. EVERY player on the team should have on of these on the maps at all times after thier first back until they reach the point they have no more item slots hold one to replace thier last one
this does NOT mean sightstone needs to be the FIRST item you buy
certain ranged AP supports like 
or are better off getting 
before because they get their gold from hitting enemy champ with abilities and basic attacks (note the 8 gold for on hit and the 15 gold on , getting will greatly increase your gold income during laning.
even if you cant afford a sightstone.. because you dont have 800 gold few people remember that it BUILDS from 
in fact so few people relize they i sometimes get yelled at by my adc for "building HP and not saving for a sightstone" when i bought the becuase it BUILDS into the sightstone. and i had the gold for that but not the sightstone.
also.. this seems stupid to even mention but.. just because you have a sightstone.. donest mean your done.. you actaully need to USE the sightstone. i have a game somewhere in my match history (i lost the bookmark sadly) where the support had an sightstone at the 12 min mark.. and after a 48 min game.. had placed 3 wards TOTAL. picking up the sightstone isn't enough.. you need to USE IT

play smart don't purposely steal kills from your ADC, don't get caught out. one of the HARDEST things to do as a support player is to know when to NOT try to save someone. and when to let them die so the enemy team only gets 1 kill and not 2 or more. this is something to this day after 3 years of playing i STILL fail to do about 25% of the time. that being said.. if you don't know your champ very well or what THEIR champ can do.. you generally want to follow them. if your adc shows they they play
like gosu and you think.. my god this guy is trying to 1v4 im not going to help him.. and he kills 3 of them but dies to the 4th.. well, next time.. follow him in... -
watch the map, and ping obviosuly this is of the utmost importance for every player in the game. and ideally every player should be doing this. support generally have an easier time with it than others. just becuase it is warded doesn't mean people see it and now in 6.22 with the vision plant.. if you see that little wave of vision from the plant being killed.. PING IT.
i have been saved COUNTLESS times because someone had pinged an enemy gank that i did not see because i was busy in a 1v1. this alone will make a HUGE difference to you games.
now when i say ping it.. i mean ONLY once or twice. at the same time. i have also had many people ping me away from a kill i would have gotten because i for a split second when i saw the warning ping. ping fpeople to show somthing that are probably not looking at on thier screen. if you ping someone who is about to tower dive an enemy, your porably just screwed them up. maybe you only cost them the kill... but i have also DIED becuase somone pinged me and the distraction made me mess up the dive because i had already entered turrent range and was taking shots..
