Elo hell may not be real, but Bronze is sure as hell frustrating

ValyrianBlade··42 votes·5,360 views

I've been gold the last two seasons, often playing with plats.

I placed Bronze 1 somehow this season. I've now lost two promotional series to silver 5 (2-3 then 1-3 with the free win making it 2-3).

These are my scores in the 6 losses (and please don't get in to "there's more than just KDA!" - of course there is. I'm doing the other stuff better than these guys too, it's just that KDA is the quickest way to demonstrate my point): 11/8/17 - total kills 37 to 49 14/7/10 - total kills 40 to 51 13/6/4 - total kills 29 to 29 9/4/9 - total kills 35 to 34 8/7/10 - total kills 38 to 57 4/4/4 - total kills 14 to 33

Like literally, in 5 of my 6 losses I played extremely well (and I did fine in the last but the team just got stomped). Enemy jungler had significantly more presence in my lane than I had help, and yet I consistently won lane, took early turrets, made good rotations, etc... I haven't dropped from my abilities of previous seasons - I'm still a gold/plat caliber player. I know it's just bad luck and that the numbers will even out eventually (in 9 games it's possible to get 6-8 really bad teams...) but it's really frustrating. A lot of the players down here just can't be carried...

That's not even counting the games I've successfully carried a team. At least they were carry-able though. Then there's the games where I can just sit around and do nothing and get carried.

As I said, I have no doubt I'll climb out of bronze. Although I expected to win the series the first time. I expected to win it the second time. I've never lost a series twice before (I've actually only lost 1 series in each season prior to this...). It's quite tilting though - losing games where you've played extremely well (or at least good enough to be the best player in that game) and you lose it because at this elo being the best on the map doesn't matter at all - what matters is who has the worst player on the team. Who's going to feed the hardest. Who's going to make bad objective calls in the late game. Who's going to overstay after a won fight. Who's going to run and die instead of kite a won fight. Who's going to try to save me when I'm able to save myself and die for nothing. etc...

And to anyone that has been complaining about elo hell or is stuck in bronze, etc... First, it sucks to be there - so sorry. Second, please understand it's not a long-term thing. You will get out. It's a numbers game. Bad luck can only last in the short term - if you're truly better you will win it out eventually.

When do you use Ohmwrecker?

Xela Syab12 votes

usually when I get dive comps, or the enemy team has seige or good waveclear and turtling up. It's also just good to keep voidlings or empowered minions alive during a push. Also it's just good to get the global gold if your team gets behind or out rotated.

also as a smart ass, you use it near the enemy turret.

You don't, the stats are bad and it costs too much gold.

Interesting. What's the ohmwrecker for? I get the other two but don't see how that helps.

What champions do you build this on? I've taken Zzrot on J4 once or twice when the team really needed to defend a lane but I was needed for a fight, but it seems hard to justify banner (and as I mentioned I don't see Ohmwrecker's value - late game I can tank the turret anyways).

Sorakas Pantheon1 votes

Ohmwrecker is really used for taking towers faster or diving the enemy under their tower to tilt them since it disables the tower for a short time

Xela Syab1 votes

Well sometimes you just gotta close out a game and bronze players don't know how to push right. It's just easier to disable to tower so the enemy team can't turtle up and keep the damage going. I have had a dozen games where we group up at a tower and nothing happens then my team splits up and gets killed, usually ohm fixes that because the enemy team simply can't defend for a few seconds.

If was Gold last season, he's probably going up against some high Silver players and low Gold ones who placed Bronze. They should be able to deal with them more effectively than the actual Bronze players last season.

I stopped playing ranked. Last ranked game i got a braum adc. I carried but we still lost. But its my fault tho. I should be able to carry a 4/18 adc braum and get out of bronze 4 right?

dude if you are legit having problems with bronze and you claim to be a gold/plat player then you just suck lol. pick a solo lane and pick a champ you can faceroll with and you will have 0 problems climbing.. legit whenever I smurf in that elo I have a 90% or higher winrate and the losses being from people dcing or afking and it being 3v5 ect. Also the only way you will ever actually climb to high elo is if you play every game as if you have to hard carry and if you play to rely on team then you won't climb.

kurufal2 votes

You literally don't get it.

GayFluffyUnicorn3 votes

Yup. One of the reasons i was hardstuck in plat 5 currently. I used to trust my teammates because low diamond isn't as bad as people make it out to be and i met great player and had lots of fun in it. After a few weeks break i took that mentally to my placements+ranking and failed horribly. So i switched over to 1v9 in every game and am currently climbing fast again.

No, just no. They don't know what they are doing in plat+. They don't have much game knowledge either. 90% from low plat to low dia just got there by mechanics alone. Nothing else.

Here you are actually lieing in your pocket. It's waaay easier to make a difference in low elo. I peaked at dia 4 30 LP last season. I know a bit about all elos until this point. The higher you get the harder it is to solo carry because once you reach a certain elo people actually KNOW how to abuse a lead, how to abuse bad plays/bad players. In gold and silver where you are at i guess even when you have a feeder the enemy team does as much mistakes if not even more mistakes than your team. One player can hard carry. That's what you need to learn to get to diamond. From then on you learn macro game, abusing leads, snowballing.

Pentium21 votes

Yeah that makes sense, but there is a difference between carrying in low elo and high elo.

I read an interesting comparison between a dia 5 jungler stomping a silver game and a challanger jungler stomping a dia game.

All right I can't really find it... but it wold not perfectly fit there anyway because it was about the skill differences from silver to dia to challanger (I might find it later, it was somewhere on the summonerschool subreddit).

But the main point is that, a high elo player will most likely make picks all game long in the silver game and slowly pus hadvantages, while in dia, the challanger jungler don't let the other one live, takes his farm, wards the shit out of the jungle.

"I don't believe in elo hell."

Describes being in elo hell.

Elo hell never meant you can't get out of it. It just means it's a very annoying pain in the ass. You have to play a ton of games for all the trolls, smurfs, and AFKs to balance out.

GayFluffyUnicorn1 votes

The real elo hell really is being diamond with a shitty winrate which will lead to win 12-17 LP and losing up to 25.

I still remember when I had to play with Ekko supp (first item item 1056, ofc he didnt even buy a sighstone), Quinn adc 4/10, Soraka top 0/11/1. Thank god I'm out of that bullshit elo

I lost 5 promos in a row, I'm a Diamond 5-4 player going back and fourth. Placed in Plat 4 and get matched with gold, low plat players getting molested by Diamond players and being outrotated so hard that it feels like playing almost alone. They 5 man, I rotate from top to mid to defend (Keep in mind I'm 5 0 and botlane is winning), our botlane rotates to take gromp and we lose mid turret because their midlaner Xerath could waveclear. Stuff like this hurts.

If you think its a numbers game.. you are wrong. Its bronze. Some pro's cant get out of bronze because they are so used to people following up.

If you where around for the HotshotGG elo hell thing. Mind you, hilarious, this suppose to be challenger level player got an account in Bronze and was stuck in bronze. He had to ask some buddies to carry him out of Bronze. Which supports my argument that 60% of higher elo players have friends and couldnt get to diamond solo.

Bronze is a lifestyle and a mentality. you have encourage your team mates and never rage. you have to accept getting berated as a way of life. And then walk away after carrying a game while you supported some person giving them the game of their life and they will say how they could have done it without you.

People that know how to split push and wave management dont stay in Bronze. People that rely on their team to follow up and dont know how to shut up stay in bronze.

Me i am a upper plat skilled player. I have an account that hit diamond because of the zyra rework, then they nerfed her, but it was enough of a push to get me to climb.

it is actually hard to lose rank when you get it. Look at SKY. That guy got carried to diamond and then just played around in it for a season then dropped to plat next season than gold. He is an example of a gold player that was carried.

Me, i mastered 1 champion and then reasonably functional on a few others when i know i cant pick into certain champions.

So, learn to split and you will be out of Bronze in no time.

Honestly no it wasnt lmao, I was 2nd rotation I believe, I picked rammus into tryn and cait as a direct counter. That part worked, both of them would focus me until they either died or backed off. What didnt work was the janky ass shaco supp and the braindead kat mid, then again I have yet to see a draven on my team NOT feed his ass off early game and if you check the charts, Kata almost did less damage than the enemy blitzcrank. Which imo is kinda pathetic

GayFluffyUnicorn1 votes

By not picking rammus. Not picking any tank in general. Take hardcarry champs. Learn to cs. Your CS is horrible. Not dieing that often although it is decent for bronze/silver (?). Try to be the shotcaller. Learn when to go for which objective and try to bring your team to listen to you. If not just splitpush all day with riven, trynda, darius whatever. Any faceroll champ (as long as you not die all the time while doing it).

yes my ignorance, not the fact my team has had inters/2-3 team mates flaming each other/new people who have 0 knowledge of the game/people who dont listen or follow up. but because im ignorant. Get off your high horse dude seriously, if I could carry these kids I would. But all they do is flame and feed when you split push. thats the problem, not even splitting helps these kids. They constantly force fights and blame you for not being there meanwhile you are pushed to their inhib and have cracked the enemy base. While your team can barely gather a single iota of thought and poke them down blow all CDs and SS only to barely scratch the team they fed

There are literally ZERO professional players that can't get out of bronze. Why would you even say that? lol

Supreme Senpai692 votes

I think they really should add more levels. I had a bronze 5... "vayne main" in one of my normal games. She had a 20% win rate in ranked across like 30 games. She's clearly worse than bronze 5, and any team she plays on in bronze 5 will just pull them down and prevent them from climbing. In turn, any team she goes against will be inflated by one game. She was only bronze 5 because there was no lower to go. I know it seems like an uncommon problem, but like 30% of all league players are in bronze. We have different divisions for the top 4% but not the bottom 30%

GayFluffyUnicorn1 votes

Once bronze 5 players realize they are as bad as that vayne they will stop blaming others for not being able to climb. That's because there is a huge difference between low master and challenger. Between low master and low diamond etc. The gap was so huge that D1 100LP and D1 0LP was worth an entirely new tier where as there is literally no difference between bronze 5 and silver 1. It's all dogshit. Low diamond is shit as well. Once you accept that and learn the game you will climb.

Supreme Senpai692 votes

Came to say "yea that's probably true but still frustrating"

Can't stop staring at name though

GayFluffyUnicorn1 votes

Ofc it is frustrating. I started my climb from s4 last season. Peaked at dia 4 30LP until i decayed and only played myself back to dia 5 0LP. And there is legit no difference at all. Only slightly better mechanics/CS and players atleast kinda know how to end a game.

Haha is that good now or bad? Btw currently replaying Kotor 1 ^^

wait... why are you wasting your time with flex queue? solo/duo goes off prior season dynamic queue rank. Unless you going for gold in both. I might but... honestly don't feel like it right now. Feel like Riot really fucked up with short preseason and rank resets. They said "well if you play your stupid ass placements now you can rank up and not be hit hard". So I play the dumb 10 games get silver 2 in flex. Then play the stupid new ones like 2 weeks later with my shitty noob mmr friends (its flex rank but my fault i get fucked cuz i play with flex friends good system) and go 5-5... so yea not great but not bad. Dropped to bronze 2 from silver 2. Now.... I am not mad because "elo hell blah blah blah"... just pissed because I don't even want to play the fucking shit queue to begin with so be nice to at least get closer to my actual rank of gold elo but noo....... drops me down into bronze for no reason. So now I have to shit stomp teams of silver/bronze kids alone for like 150 games just to get gold in some stupid ass queue if I want an extra reward. I shouldn't say shit stomp as I am obviously not that good but still.... playing vs lower rank players for 150ish games that aren't really competitive and when you lose its because your team sucks and if you win its because I shit stomped the noob enemy jungler.

A lot of this type of post here, so I'm just responding the same to all of them in hopes of 1 response: What's the problem with flex queue? Isn't it exactly the same queue as last season? I understand now that your rank doesn't depend on past season (explains the huge drop) and also that I'm at a disadvantage going solo but I don't really see how it would result in playing well individually not correlating to winning games.

I started with flex intending to get gold 5 and then abandon it for the rest of the season. I.e. secure the additional reward ASAP then never have to touch it again. I also figured in the extremely early season most plats/diamonds/masters/challengers/smurfs are racing up solo queue so I didn't want to go there and encounter them. I.e. I thought flex would be more balanced.

If you want to get out of bronze just follow these tips and you'll be out in no time ; in fact it took me 3 days to go from bronze 4 to silver 5.

  • Play teamfight champions with CC Annie MonkeyKing Nautilus Amumu Ahri Swain Malphite Malzahar

  • DON'T dive, chase kills or go for big trades early ; just farm and you'll quickly realise that you have a 30 CS and 2 Lvl lead over everyone in the room (Yes even in the jungle)

  • When your whole team start chasing, or does stupid stuff shove a lane before you help them, this way if they fail you might be able to take a tower or create pressure on the map. Never back or roam before you shove the lane.

  • Don't expect anything from anyone, if you can't do it yourself don't do it. People in bronze have the slowest reaction time and forget about using their spells often.

  • People in bronze are so bad that all you have to do is farm, get your items get big and people will walk up to you and you can one-shot them. (Happened in all of my games)

I find it nearly impossible to find a good support in bronze. The supports I get always end up stealing kills and CS and NEVER peel for me. I depend on f*cking lifesteal for peel, which just shouldn't happen. I recently had a game as Draven where I had over 400 stacks on my passive in around 15 minutes, but I could never get a kill because they were all stolen. It wasn't really my support though. Sometimes I just wonder if people in this elo will ever learn what an ADC does. I always get more assists than the support and shitty CS because somebody else took mine. This makes me want to quit ADC. The supports I see in higher elo's almost never take CS or kills from their ADC, and actually do a good job at peeling. I'm just sick of this. I fkin hate this elo and even though I'm quite bad myself, sometimes it's just not my fault that I had such a bad performance.

You can't climb as an adc.. That much I learned last night.. After a year of trying lol I got as high as bronze one with adc but now I'm bronze five with 20 LP.

The messed up thing is ADC is the only role I am able to hard carry with guys like Jhin, Vayne and Twitch. I suck at all the other roles like I'm a bronze six player at all the other roles.

I mean I'm not saying I should be gold but I've played a couple of silver matches and it just felt right it felt good win or lose because it feels like the sup actually wants to win in most of them.

You can climb as adc, just need to find a good duo support. Then once you get to Dia, there might be a support who won't spam their spells on the minion wave and leave to die in mid while you get tower dived 1v3. ( I don't play ADC anymore, but I used to and it's terrible if your support is bad.)

You can climb as ADC, just let your support die when he makes stupid plays and gets caught. Sure, he'll rage and asked why you didn't do anything and threaten to afk or go top lane and support Darius instead but it's better than following up his terrible no brained plays and feeding double kills.
