Except it fit in his kit better and made him much more balanced.
Now Ahri is a kite mage, like LIssandra, and Lux.
Her whole purpose, playstyle wise is much more healthy. Rather than oops, missed my Charm, lets wait for it to get back up and try again. Now she is I poked and, outplayed this person to the point where i can finish him off in a combo
Its EXACTLY what riot was talking about. Rather than just pressing a button and deleting someone from the game, she has a much higher and versatile skillcap now. Playing Ahri is no longer soley related to your skill with landing her charm, and thats a great thing.
However fizz used to be able to kill you in a combo, even if he missed his ult. It was like Lol, I missed my R, but who cares, i didnt even need that hard to aim thing anyways, Now he actually has to set up his combos properly to do anything more than poke.
Riot is moving champions away from the whole "I landed 1 skillshot, so now I win" or "I got in range so now I win", kind of champions, and replacing them with balanced champions who's kits revolve around ALL of their abilities, rather than just 1, or 1 combo.
