The problem with supports gold gain

Supports gold gain has forever been increased. This is not arguable.

It's arguable whether supports have been spending more gold on necessary things, but heres how I see it.

No longer buy oracles

No longer buy wards

No longer buy sightstone

No longer need to buy higher cost items

No longer buy potions

And yet their gp/10 is through the roof.

Lets take a journey into their items.

You guys remember Heart of Gold? 850 gold, 200 hp and 5 gp/10. Horrible stat efficiency. For 850 gold you get 533 gold worth of health, so that means that the 5gp/10 costed you 320 gold.

Now look at item 3098. 111% stat efficiency without the passive. That's some of the BEST cost efficiency IN THE GAME on a STARTING item that is a permanent keep slot. And it has a whopping 22 gp/10.

22 gp/10.

So not only are you getting 111% cost efficiency, you are also getting over 1300g in gp/10 stats for literally free.

On a starting item. That you keep.

THAT is why you see those supports doing well.

item 3097 and item 3096 have TERRIBLE cost efficiency (60% ish) and around half that GP/10.

All the supports that use that starting item do extremely well because they get an absurd amount of gold and stats for literally no reason. They have no more things to spend money on AND get an absurd amount of money doing nothing.

Uhhhh...I want to know what supports you are facing because a good support will ALWAYS buy control wards and regular ones should be placed whenever they are necessary.

The whole purpose of a support is to guard the adc and grant vision of potential gank spots and strategic locations within the jungle, something they can’t do if they don’t ward

Also we are spending money on very limited items, such as item 3504 item 3190 to say that we don’t need that gold quickly is nearsighted. If we DONT have that gold income than we cannot keep up with actual damage dealers or provide the means to keep our team from being slaughtered within the first two seconds of a teamfight.

???

You dont buy normal wards anymore

And you buy 1 control ward maybe every 5 minutes compared to 4-5 sight wards every 3.

item 3174 item 3107 item 1053 are examples of othe ritems you will buy.

You dont NEED that gold. The meta has shifted around you because you HAVE that gold.

My point is that just because we don’t have to buy normal wards anymore doesn’t take away from the fact that we have many other responsibilities to take care of over the course of a game.

Let me ask you a question...on average about how many wards do you place in a game and what role do you usually fill/lane you take.

Are you serious? item 1053 is about as useful on a support as AP is on Tryndamere!

Finally, the meta has shifted to us having that gold because we have no other means to acquire that gold. We can’t take CS from the jungle or the lane or our jungle/adc will suffer.

I linked the wrong item, my b. item 3905

Anyway, yes you have jobs to do but those jobs DONT REQUIRE GOLD. Those wards are COMPLETELY FREE which otherwise would have costed you a good 1k gold over the course of a game.

Your gold is hyper inflated on top of the only thing left to purchase anymore being items that were purposefully lowered to match your 'low' gold income.

I’m going to say it again...supports struggle to get our full build in under thirty minutes. Without the gold income items we have no chance of being even remotely useful in-game.

Let me also ask again..do you ward whatsoever? Have you ever played support long-term? If you haven’t than I strongly suggest you try playing support and see how “unnecessary” our gold income items are.

Exactly, you SHOULDNT have full build at 30 minutes for doing nothing.

You GAIN TOO MUCH GOLD for doing NOTHING.

You still haven’t answered my question so I’m going to assume you don’t plan on playing support and are simply trolling to get a reaction out of me

I play support now and then. I just played a game just now and, unsurprisingly, I had a huge amount of gold.

I had more gold than anyone on the enemy team except the fed jinx.

From an early game gold loss our team had.

Enemy mid laner had about 200g less than me. 14 less KP than my 31 but his CS gives him 13 kp worth, so equal.

Supports get too much gold.

If you're winning the game, as a support, you usually have more gold income than the enemy team just because of global gold generation from towers, objectives, etc.

I play a lot of support, and I usually have the same amount of gold on my winning games as the enemy team's farming members do. It has nothing to do with GP/10 or gold generating passives on support items.

It all comes down to kills, assists, and objectives. In that regard, a support is still a Mage-lite, Tank-lite, etc. They're usually down half-an item to a full-item worth of gold / stats by the time mid-game comes around. (Not to mention levels).
