TANK TANK TANK TANK

This is getting so annoying. Its like every game people calling for a tank before bans are even done. And most of the time its a person who is playing a role that could be a tanky champ but refuse to do so and demand someone else play the tank.

Dont get me wrong...i have no problem playing a tank....my top 2 mains are tanks. But you know sometimes I get bored and just dont feel like playing a tank.

I have won many games with teams with no tank. Its just annoying every single game people crying for tank tank tank. When truth be told my highest win % support is not even a tank, its soraka and its somewhere around %70.

Ok my rant is over...dont know if this annoys anyone else or not.

You said your two mains are tanks, but your most played are Heimer, Leona, and Volibear, and according to Riot Volibear isn't a tank, he is a juggernaut.

A tank can soak up damage while locking down the enemy with crowd control for their team to follow up on. Volibear has 2 cc abilities, one is a single target hard cc, and the other is a small aoe slow, but he makes up for it by having strong base stat damage. A tank, like Sion has 2 hard cc aoe abilities which can last for up to 2.25 seconds and a soft cc E which also reduces armor but his damage falls off hard, so he's a tank.

Boi stop lol. Everyone knows Riot just recently in the past few months changed their labels on champs. Voli is a tank no matter wtf they label him as and everyone knows it.

And to be honest.........you can "tank" with any champ...all you have to do to be a tank is build tanky so u can absorb damage. Hence my Hemier you brought up.....when I use Heimer i do a tank build. Its fun just sitting in the middle of my turrets fighting top laners who think they are about to just delete u.....only to realize im not dieing so quickly.......and by time they realize it its too late and they can no longer run away.

Just like any champ can be a adc.......... I once solo'd Baron with a Soraka adc build and even made a post on here and updated it after each attempt until I got the final build to do it. it did take selling boots for a 6th damage item but I did it.

Tanks aren't even doing so well right now.

Not sure why people are obsessed with them.

LordGeovanni2 votes

the thing is they arent they are obsessed with juggernauts labeling them tanks and mad at champions that stop their adc - assassin steam roll from happening easily

Tanks do fine man......its not the champs its the people using them.

Same way a lot of people hate on Teemo.....not all Teemos are bad......its the people using them not understanding how to use him who he is against.

ABSINTHEged1 votes

I am actually a teemo one trick on my main. I understand the sentiment. :3

But tanks are being eaten alive by burst damage right now. Tanks are supposed to counter burst damage and be countered by sustained damage. That healthy balance doesn't quite feel like it's in play to me.

Bladerunner77771 votes

Just because they aren't required like they were in the cancer cinderhulk meta doesn't mean they're "doing bad"

ABSINTHEged1 votes

No, but being melted by the thing they are supposed to counter (burst damage) is generally not a good indivator. Tanks aren't useless right now, but they're also not fantastic.

Bladerunner77771 votes

Have a replay of a tank actually being melted by burst damage??

Spoofghoul2 votes

and then they lock in kindred jungle or something like that

and in the post game stats you as a tank dealth 3x their damage

its always those players

demanding someone else play a tank for them to hide behind and peel for them so they can be the big carry and in the end they can't even deal noticeable damage

very often when i encounter such players they are useless af

its the same kind of player you can ask to build mortal reminder vs vlad/swain/mundo and they refuse, better yet they wont even build ldr

Someone looked at the teamcomp at pick intent. He saw that I had yasuo picked for intent. He then said "we have no tanks, top play a tank" then promptly bans yasuo.

Funny, Since I learned that Tank Yasuo was a thing.

Tanks aren't even doing so well eight now.

I don't actually think people really communicate, (or even know) what they want when they say tank.

Do they want a Tanky initiator? (Subclass Vanguard) Do they want a protectorate? (A Warden) Or do you want someone who can Take damage, but also deal some in return? (basically any fighter, but not a skirmisher)

I'm not actually sure if they know, they just seem to hate seeing a team that dies instantly.

LordGeovanni2 votes

they want some one to keep the enemy in place long enough for them to get a good score so they can say they carried

Yasuo's not really a tank. Some people will call anything other than a full glass cannon build "Tank X" but, ironically, being a tank isn't just about tankiness.

Tank Ekko can be a tank because he has an AOE stun (situationally) and several slows that he can use to help a teammate (who has built damage) kite.

Someone who wants a tank for their team so that they can protect their squishies has good reason to prefer a Tank Ekko teammate to a "Tank" Yasuo teammate. And that's true regardless of whether you think Riot should nerfhammer both of those builds into the ground and make champions designed for damage builds go back to damage builds.

I don't actually think people really communicate, (or even know) what they want when they say tank.

Yasuo is basically never going to be either of those things, regardless of his item builds. If he doesn't have kill threat on someone, he's completely forgettable other than Windwall, which is not enough to be worth a whole champion.

That's what distinguishes true tanks from people who build a defensive item or two. Reliable utility that makes you useful in a larger than 1v1 fight even if you're not doing relevant damage.

But if they're the kind of player who locks in top Yasuo saying "someone else tank" then they probably don't really understand themselves what a tank does for a team, they just know the tank doesn't get tons of kills so whatever they're doing must not be important, right?

Or do you want someone who can Take damage, but also deal some in return? (basically any fighter, but not a skirmisher)

I've heard of people talking about "Tank Jax" which is the same kind of thing.

I'm not actually sure if they know, they just seem to hate seeing a team that dies instantly.

Well, duh. And there certainly are a lot of those at low elo, so the people wanting someone on their team to not die instantly have a point. The team probably really is better off if at least one of top, jungle and support can take a hit without exploding. Maybe even two. Whether they're actual tanks or just bruisers or juggernauts.

I ain't playing no tank support boi, I'm doing my senpai Diamond 1 khazix a tribute, kha'zix support ez gg

Too many people feel like they can't trust their teammates. So they feel like the must play the carry to win. (Yet some how their teammate can't possibly screw up, playing a tank)

But Really, Who can play a Tank? Mid lane has traditionally been the place for a APC. And generally you want that magic damage on your team. (But a utility mage with a 1k shields, can be a healthy compromise.) No one would ever dream of taking anything but the glass cannon ADC bot lane. (Except maybe Mord, But Riot has kinda flipfloped his Duo lane expectations) And your team would be an Idiot, it they thought a Support with Support level gold/XP, can fill the same role.

So really, that just leaves the Top laner and Jungler for filling the traditional role of a tank.

VvVVvV1 votes

Well for support i think it just depends on the player.......if you look at my current match history.....all my recent games at least past 15 have been support.....and even in the games with a loss i still did good. Hell my game that just ended I got a loss with a S+ lol.

And this game with a S+ loss is a prime example of my post. i was last pick and had no choice but to choose a tank because our top went LUX and our jungle went RYZE.

I mean, if you can pull that off I guess.

But you can make teams work without a tank. Me personally, I would probably go Karma Support. And the amount of shields that I give, and the zone control, will give way more protection that I could offer playing a tank support.

VvVVvV1 votes

Yes I know...that is exactly my whole point of this post.

It might seem weird because my main champ is Voli and i mostly use him as support..hes a tank. My 2nd favorite is Leona..another tank support. And right now I've been mainly playing Galio who is a mage tank......Im trying to bring recognition to him because he is a very good champ that a lot of people sleep on. Im getting S games left and right since i started back playing him in 12 - 1 in my last 13 games with him with a %77 win rate.

but on the other hand I do like to see who the other team has picked for their support and I will counter pick if need to...sometimes a tank support is not best for team. Like my personal rule is if other team picks a healer like soraka, nami or sona then i will pick 1 of the other too just so we dont get pushed out of lane too early.

My main point of this post was towards the people who will lock in a a squishy top and then a squishy jungle and then when its my pick they astart demanding a tank support.........and when im looking at other team im really thinking a utility support would be better.

Ya it's annoying, just report those toxic players and refuse to communicate with them.

DragonShea1 votes

I am your man for the job. but piss me off and you can find another tank to annoy.

So yeah, I get how you feel.

LordGeovanni1 votes

I play top and support i play fighters top and if i play support im not playing a tank unless some one else is also picking a tank or fighter i dont enjoy engageing my SAFE RANGED teammates not following up and then calling me out for feeding

VvVVvV2 votes

Leona Exactly how I feel

Leo is like my 2nd favorite champ. But if I dont see another champ that can engage im not picking her. Tired of going all in, blowing whole kit.......and then tanking 3 or 4k worth of damage while my team just watches and some just start farming minions for some reason.

The other champ with a engage doesnt even really have to be a tank....it can be a bruiser or juggernaut. But when im last pick and support and I see a Quinn Top and a Graves Jungle wtf am i supposed to do here? Especially if other team has a Zed....you give him 4 easy targets he can insta delete and u expect met o save all of you lol.

LordGeovanni1 votes

they want the person making 1/3 of the money an adc is making without counting kills to build items faster than an adc where adc items are only about 20% -40% more expensive than the items you would have to build to beat them they get their power before you can get your defense and their items scale harder than yours into mid and late game and in this meta 4 carry and 5 carry lanes arent uncommon and wonder why you end up with 3 different components to 3 different defensive items and you cant finish one

Only Play Darius1 votes

I won't pick anyone tanky into Quinn Graves Gnar or any other ranged toplaner regardless of what the team needs. The support or jungler can fill that role

MunchCrunchLunch1 votes

i dont think it matters anymore if you have a tank or not. ofcourse keep your damage mixed. and nothing else matters as long as u dont counter yourself. I see full tank malphites and nasus and ulting mundos and trundles get deleted in 3-4 seconds. I mean as yi i just soloed a tank trundle in about 3 seconds.

Tank = good Soraka = better Tank + Soraka = gg (Not tank build soraka but rather soraka with a tank on her team)
