That's not a problem with autofill.

That's a problem with people having shit attitudes.

HeimerLmao19 votes

You know, it's not just the attitude. I am a top/support main that plays mid from time to time. If I get adc or jungle that I can't play for shit, ESPECIALLY in ranked, ofc I'm gonna dodge. That's not my bad attitude, I'm simply not gonna solo lose the game for my team. At least let us EXLUDE some roles from autofill.

Terozu4 votes

Playing support makes you exempt from autofill. I dont believe this.

Lauchmelder2 votes

Why don't you ask your team if anybody would like to swap because of you not being comfortable with your assigned role?

Yes, if nobody wants to swap then dodging is fine, but if you don't even try it's just pointless.

Before role selection, during the era of pick order, I could negotiate for a role I could actually play. After role selection, that only happens like 10% of the time. The other 90% of the time you pretty much have to just accept your fate.

Also before role selection: I could be a jungle/support and play jungle 95% of the time and support 5% of the time. After role selection: I have to queue jungle/mid because picking support will land me in that role 50%+ of the time. So now I don't even know how to play it. But that's okay, autofill likes to put me in the ADC role anyway! My worst role! lol

Jungle really? everyone wanted to be Mid/Top/adc. As far as 95% goes it was closer to 80% chance if you wanted JG but closer to 20% chance if you wanted the popular lanes. JG was only slightly more popular than support like it is now.

No, it was closer to 95%. People generally gave one-tricks their role. I calculated it based on my champion stats from seasons where pick order was a thing. I almost never got to support, and almost always got to jungle. It wasn't 80%. Granted, if you didn't even attempt to negotiate, then maybe it was 80%? But during the era of pick order that just meant you were bad. Negotiating in champion select was an actual skill you had to develop in order to climb. (I even name-changed to my main champions to make it obvious I was a one-trick to help the negotiation process)

Lauchmelder1 votes

This is important. If you don't even try to negotiate then you lost any right to complain. People tend to swap roles if they can see it being an advantage.

If you dodge because nobody wanted to swap then it's fair. But people on the boards tend to complain about autofill when they are the ones that dodge the second they get autofilled while never even asking for a swap.

Are you serious, the same community that coined the phrase "Mid or Feed" gave up the same roles that are popular now? The only case this was true for was JG and support, everyone else for the most part did not. You are wearing some think rose tented glasses because there was a major complaint about toxicity and draft pick champ select mostly because of pick order. People would literally snipe picks if they had pick at the same time(example: 3rd pick would snipe 2nd picks role they called).

Cool. I was talking about jungle. Because you were arguing about my 95% figure, but I actually had data to back it up.

Now imagine if the waits between those dodges got a lot longer so 7 dodges with autofill would feel like 14+ without it.

Most of the dodgers are people who get autofilled.

That is your guess. I don´t believe it is true even for half of the dodges. Some champs are banned, some don´t like own team comp, some don´t like vs team, some are looking at op.gg if own teamplayers are good.....

Interesting how would you know that without any actual evidence?

Ignoring the fact that you actually have no idea who most of the "dodgers" are lets take a loot at the past system.

Before you could pick a primary and secondary lane you were at the mercy of RNG regardless and could go multiple games as last pick support

Then they added this new system and when it first came out it before they added autofill it took legit 20m+ to even get to a single champion select and then someone would dodge because they didn't like the enemy champs, their champion was banned, or they didn't like their team comp then you went back to waiting longer.

The whole reason they added autofill is because the waits were getting insane, far more than the wait time you went through for 7 dodges(which doesn't even happen that often to begin with).

The Problem is people are spoiled and the truth of the matter is now you are more likely to get your primary and secondary lane much much much more often then you did in the past, especially if you were playing a popular lane.

On average though the amount of times people are actually dodging is quite low and the multiple dodging in a row happens very rarely. I suspect its the same for everyone else but its human nature to remember all the bad things and not the positive. You are probably more able to tell me the amount of times you seen q dodges today but not the amount of times you didn't for example.

This is because when they first added this new system, role selection wasn't weighted. You had a 50% chance at both roles if they had similar demand. You queue jungle/mid? Have fun playing mid (and dodging) 50% of the time. Oh,but if one of your roles had a higher demand? eg: picking anything/support? Have fun supporting 99.9% of the time if you pick it as your secondary.

This was not an issue with autofill. This was an issue of garbage role selection algorithms. Bonus points: you queue jungle/mid and someone else on your team queues mid/jungle? It could give both players their secondary roles. You could have an entire team of people playing their secondary roles.

This has been partially fixed (it appears to give people primary roles if possible at all times now, and your primary role is weighted as your preference). However, I still have to queue jungle/mid, because jungle/mid gets me jungle 90% of the time, whereas jungle/support would only get me jungle 50% of the time (which is an improvement from getting jungle 0.1% of the time, but it's still not good enough).

tl;dr - autofill isn't needed anymore. The problems role selection had on release have been fixed.

No it actually was a problem with role selection and not algorithm, it is literally because roles are being overflowed. Theres a reason you are always getting autofilled Support and Jungle and never see anyone auto filled Mid.

I don't think you know what an algorithm is.

And roles were being overflowed because the system was crap. During the first few days queue times were great - because people were actually picking support. But when people realized that support secondary = support 100% of the time, they stopped selecting it as their role. Once people learned how the system worked, and realized it worked like garbage, the support pool shrunk because anyone who wasn't a support main stopped picking it entirely.

I was one of them.

I wouldn’t say things are fixed, couple weeks ago I duod with a friend, I was mid/top and he was JG/mid he got mid and I got autofill JG, obviously from a practical standpoint it didn’t actually matter, but the fact that that is even possible shows the system is fucked.

Terozu1 votes

Autofill was needed because noone played support. Thats still needed.

3TWarrior1 votes

tons of people play support...

the problem is, most people don't like being FORCED to play support

this is why we have off-meta picks becoming the new meta picks in support roles

leona used to be a top laner, blitzcrank was DESIGNED to be a toplaner, and several mid-lane mages have been reduced to bottom lane support simply because they can play better there, even though it is not their intended role

Terozu2 votes

Blitzcrank was designed before support was an actual thing. Leona was always intended to be a support.

3TWarrior1 votes

probably because dodges happen too quickly for anyone to have processed information other than that they did not get the role they queued for?

I remember playing league in the beginning, years ago, and the ques honestly weren't that bad. I think the worst time I had to wait was 8 minutes for a game at 3 AM. Maybe rito should give the option for an auto fill but not force people to do it? like select your preferred lane OR auto fill and it would just match you with other people where you get YOUR lane and if needed an auto-fill would be pulled in from the AUTO FILL Que. Rather than just saying, " oh hey we need a support for this Que so sorry about you wanting to go mid or top but you get support now". I honestly can't even count how many times I've played with a party of 3 in a 5v5, me queing as mid or support and then my top laner queing as top or jungle and then getting forced to support instead of me, like lmao wut?

It is lame, I was to blame for a normals dodge the other night. Was on my alt act and got autofilled Support. I don't own a support champ yet because be are so easy to come by and wasn't going to ruin a game playing w/e the free support of the week was who I don't play.. Makes up for the numerous times someone else has dodged though.. Good stuff..

GôdÌy2 votes

You do realize normals is where you practice new champions? Just learn the champ instead of adding to the dodge problem

Ztoka1 votes

I realize some people play that way, I'm too serious/competitive for that though.. I prefer to at least get a handle on a champ through a few bot games before playing in a normal.. Even though I had a lux support the other night building ad/crit... I am 100% aok getting autofilled support, I've played the role many times and don't mind it. I got my normal win for the emote and won't go back to normals until I have a support champ or two that I don't mind so I don't have to dodge in the future.. Definitely not my intent to waste my/someone elses time. Will need a jung toon or two also so I have at least 2 champs for each role..

GôdÌy1 votes

Are you kidding me? Bots? You're too serious/competitive?????? it's normals. I could pick up any champion that riot ever adds to the game and be successful on them my first game in normals... because it's normals.
